ice find. Thanks for sharing.

I guess this theatre mode / mask icon is going to be another icon added to the grid within control center (which already has 8). Feels like it's going to get a bit tedious with all these icons in there.

Theater mode is indeed available in Control Center.

eh i guess i'm not that special cause i never had a problem with my watching lighting up during a movie where it became an issue. Then again the last movie i went to was in the summer, and I feel asleep (yes to reclining seats!) so i wouldn't really noticed my watch lighting up and a little tap wasn't going to wake me up :p:D

I'd swap it all for a simple play/pause complication. Unbelievable this doesn't exist.

Such is this an indictment of our sad and needy times that we cannot keep off our electronic twerp-devices for more than five minutes to find a need for a 'feature' not to annoy our fellow cinema goers quite as much as similarly device-dependent peers

Here's an idea. If you can't do without your iPhone long enough until the theatre interval and your concentration will definitely drop during that time then maybe best you didn't go there in the first place.

Cheers!

From your comment, I assume that you don't own an Apple Watch. :)

It is not that people can't stay off their device, it's that when you reach for a handful of popcorn, the watch lights up because it thinks you might be looking to see what time it is.

I don't think it's enough light to really cause a problem, but I haven't had mine in a theatre to see just how bright it is once my eyes have adjusted to the dark.

I'd love to see an automatic theater mode. There's absolutely no reason based on GPS that the watch couldn't automatically switch into it. Same for the phone as far as that goes.

Whoa, hang on.

We still need this for phones... I'm not nearly as upset if someone's tiny watch lights up (and it's OLED, so it's not giving off THAT much light) in a theater or concert.

But someone opening bright iMessage on their 5.5" phone with the brightness maxed? Make theater mode on iOS as speculated, limit the screen brightness and mute the ringer. It's the new "silence your cellphone."
Don't need a feature to stop that sort of interruption from others. The muppets that use bright screens in theatres don't give a damn about others to begin with so aren't going to bother using such a feature.

Wouldn't it be good if all devices were geofenced so that venues could elect to be device free zones........

I am honestly more distracted by people smacking their lips and rustling with candy, slurping drinks and getting up to pee. Can we get an theater mode for human decency?

Wait, it's indecent to get up to pee? Not everyone has the same bladder size, and with age many people can't hold it as long as others. Your comment might be lacking human decency.

At first thought, why would anyone need that?

But thinking about it more, I have used my watch for sleep tracking and sometimes when you roll over the screen comes on and the light is sometimes enough to pull you out of sleep.
Other times like when driving at night when the watch lights up for no reason and the light in a dark cabin is distracting (not looking at the watch, just light coming from it).

Love this and am looking forward to it. Will not use it so much in a movie theatre but every time I'm bringing the kids to bed. :)

Wow, INNOVATION.

How about a freakin adjustable brightness or colours for the nightstand mode? I have mine close to my bed in order to be able to tap the night stand, and man it's blinding. And this is on the first gen watch, i can imagine the 2nd gen is worse since its got a brighter screen.

Dark Mode = iPhone 8 exclusive. Will be interesting to see how they preview it at WWDC though. They might add it to the last two generations of iPhone.
*******
In wake up mode...the watch in the new OS will ask you if you need to go pee-pee...if you do not answer it will repeat it 30 times.

Clearly the sarcasm was missed...

It was in response to the "nothing worse than a watch light in the middle of a movie" type comments. There are way more distracting things out there... I see the watch thing as a non issue. Cannot think of he last time I was distracted by somebodys watch, and I just got out of a late movie last night.

You can relax folks. Pee at your free will.

The internet isn't always serious business.I always forget my little emojis for the sarcasm blind (or is it deaf), so here's one for you. :p

Hilarious, a "theater" mode on the failing iWatch.
Why? Are people watching movies on the iWatch simply because it is an Apple product?
(like middle aged white men now suddenly listen to, enjoy, and defend, rap and hip hop "music"... simply because it is the "Apple-thing" to do).

Oh well, at least this ensures job security for eye doctors...

There's also a sensor build into the first generation of the Apple Watch models, that is capable of reading the oxygenlevel in your blood, it is also not activated, it's cool to have tho ;p
Isn't that how they measure heart rate, measuring the oxygen in the blood, to measure flow and therefore HR?

For me, the floors were sticky. Walking on that was a bit of a chore. Not that I'm expecting Apple to be able to address this issue either :D (unless being able to rent a movie the same time as a 1st run theatre was still in the works!)

Though when the watch is doing sleep-tracking, it by definition should know that you are asleep and there is no point in turning on the screen ...

I am pretty sure the watch does adjust the brightness automatically. It just doesn't set it low enough for your taste in near-darkness. Whether the Series 2 has a higher minimum brightness is an open question, higher maximum brightness does not necessarily comes with a higher minimum brightness.

I thought people didn't go to the theater anymore. I was under the impression that they only watched what was available on iTunes or Apple TV.
