What bugs me is that I had it working perfectly not even minutes before hand, and an update breaks it and makes you do a bunch of additional work to get it handled. Since it probably doesn't matter, resolving that wouldn't be a big deal, I guess. Thanks though.
See. The transition from 1.0 to 1.5 has almost zero change in the HTML file. Everything is still named the same with the same structure. Thus, if you still have the old CSS file you had your tweaks on. Simply replace the new CSS with your old one. It should reposition everything like how you had it. The major rework is done on the script that acts on these elements. The HTML elements themselves do not change, so CSS should not change.
This is exactly why I feel SlantedLock is "open" because I try to keep the HTML the same across versions, that way you can reap all the benefits of the souped up scripts, while still able to just use your old CSS file that you spent time tweaking and it still looks just the same!
Certainly one thing about themes like this (and there are thousands) is that your changes to .css and .js files will be overwritten and you will need to reapply your changes. Therefore, I find something that is as close as possible to my liking, and make minimal changes. Once I make a lot of changes, that is now my theme that I maintain.
I didn't download the 1.5 update 1.01 in Cydia because of this reason. I assumed I'd be starting over from scratch, so it's just waiting for me in my changes list should I ever want to update.
Two things concern me however...
1) The html update is great, but if you need to change it frequently it doesn't 'save' the html settings. I know Claude said you only need to set this once, but the point of having a configuration UI is that it can help you make changes again and again. For those of us that want to set and forget, it's very easy to make this change directly in the appropriate file.
2) There does seem to be something buggy about the weathericon being displayed in relation to the current forecast. I have no clue how to fix this, but I do know that it works fine in other LockMS themes.
Still loving it though!
1) It does save. Just because the configuration form shows other wise doesn't mean it doesn't save. If you didn't respring and didn't close the safari config page, it should show your last settings. If you get "Settings saved!", it's written to the cached database and will not get changed until you hit that "Set Config" button again.
2) The fact that sometimes the weather doesn't show up at all is something I can't explain either and can only guess that it can be because the phone is slow to handle the initial cache set up and/or the fetches of the data. This bug only happens to me when I do lock and relock a whole lot of time in quick succession[in my testings] with changed config, which forces the phone to fetch data everytime, so I'm leaning more toward the fact that fetches of the RSS in rapid succession may be the cause of this bug. In my daily use, it hasn't done this to me since I stopped testing it. One thing I CAN say for certain is that when it DOES fetch new weather and made it onto your screen, the data is exactly how the source RSS dictates. Script literally parses things directly from the received feed and puts it onto screen, it does not do alterations in any way, so incorrect weather display is either because the source is wrong or the icon that matches the source's icon code is wrong.(Please see post #803 by ROCKERDAN and the quoted post from TB07-NJ:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/995787/) If anything, the approach to weather updating has been much improved over other LockMS themes. The only difference in this version is the use of a database to cache things. I figure it's a trade off for this feature. We get caching or we fetches every time we lock the phone. Weather not showing up can be resolved by unlocking and relocking the phone. It's an annoyance, but I think it's a good trade off.
Here's a tip to upgrading themes that I always do:
1) SSH into my phone and back up the entire theme by copying the folder onto my PC.
2) go update the theme and see if you like it.
3) attempt to tweak the thing and if it takes too long or pisses you off, simply delete the new theme folder and replace with the old theme folder!
EDIT: It looks like the simplified/dumb config screen that doesn't show previous settings are confusing a whole lot of folks. xD I'll make it smarter next update.
Here's what I'm sporting at the moment. The Tick iconset really matches the background!
