In some cases it is just not possible to have the same features in a smaller device.
The battery will certainly be smaller, there goes your battery life.
There is a reason why only the 15PM has the new tele photo lens. It does not fit in the regular size, let alone a mini.

But even if it were possible - would you pay the same price for the smaller phone?

Spot-on assessment.

Others have said it. Apple never gave us the mini that we wanted. We want all of the Pro features in a small phone. (obv not the same battery life - there's no real estate for that).

We would have paid the premium price for it.

I've always upgraded every year or two. I'll be hanging onto my 13 mini as long as I can...then agonize over what iPhad I have to buy a murse to carry it around in. :( Pocketable? Nope.

Seriously - put tip-outs on the corner of your phone so people can use it as a coffee table, Apple. :p
So, going back to my manual transmission analogy (from a previous post): Manuals are dead except for performance-oriented cars for enthusiasts. Wanting pro features in a small phone is really similar. The choice to keep these products available isn’t based on the bottom line - the justification lies in a unique and special user experience that isn’t replicated elsewhere in the market. The joy of making something cool and fun to use, basically.

Many of us were initially attracted to the iPhone because it felt like a product that was actually tested and used by those at Apple, unlike other phones of the time. We all gripe about how Tim Cook’s Apple has become too money-driven and less innovative, but truly, no longer having a Mini is a direct reflection of this. Tim Cook would absolutely have no manual transmissions in his phone lineup.

It appears that Apple is looking overseas to grow its market share. And the Chinese especially have demonstrated a preference for larger devices. The mini was the perfect form factor for me, and I'm glad Apple actually made it. But given their vast resources, I don't understand why they couldn't have a limited number of minis available each year for the people who prefer that size.
Apple needs a CEO with the confidence, guts, balls and customer focussed attitude to boldly state "Yes, the company could avoid some costs by not making a good modern small phone, but Apple actually cares about ALL its customers and their needs so we WILL make this phone. The company will still be extremely successful and improve its image, so shareholders and Wall Street, think a bit and realize this is the future of the NEW Apple post bean counter Cook"

Since Apple does not make a truly standalone Apple Watch with no iPhone dependency at all (not even to setup), and with front and side or back camera, Apple should make an iPhone so small that it could be used in the wrist like a watch.

I would pay a higher price for the smaller phone. it is harder to make things smaller.

And i don't believe that it didn't fit into the normal sized Pro. They could have made it work. And they will next year.

The CEO's job is to please shareholders and make the price of the company go up in value. Cook has succeeded in doing that and has been a tremendous success as CEO considering his duties.

It is a fairy tale to expect anything else from a CEO.

The whole iPhone line-up was and remains a hot mess. Too fragmented and serving too many niche interests resulting in wasted resources, lost profits, and frequent confusion among users. I'd go for a wider variety of specs (RAM, SD) within one or two (at most) lines differentiated by a single aspect (screen/lenses).

The most valuable company in the world is likely doing something right and doesn't need marketing advice from random people on the internet.

He has done the first two. Nothing prevents the CEO from catering to a bit wider customer base. Continuing to produce a small phone will not stop the value increasing. Why spend money on this carbon neutral stuff as it costs money. I have seen no proof that sales would drop if Apple continued to sell leather cases and not do the carbon neutral initiatives. It is feel good and PR.

I’ve read a handful of response here talking about “specs” and “pro features”. As a current iPhone 12 mini owner, I couldn’t care less about specs. I want a small phone - ideally one with a single camera and zero bump.
I’ve read comments about battery life. I easily get more than a day, usually more than two days of battery. Wireless charging for 10 minutes gets me about 50% battery. Battery life is NOT an issue. I haven’t worried about a phone’s battery life since 2015.
Until the device stops working, I can’t imagine having a need to change my phone. In fact, I’m currently hunting down 12 minis on eBay as backups. What about the 13? I don’t like the diagonal camera configuration.
In the 30 years I’ve been an Apple user, my satisfaction is at an all time low, by miles.

Isn't it funny that on one hand, people are clamouring for a mini iPhone that only a small portion of users want, while decrying the iPad and Mac lineups for being too bloated, simply because they don't care for any of the variations being made available?

It's never been about Apple lacking confidence, guts or whatever you want to call it, but about people whining that they didn't get what they wanted.

You are talking about two different things. Under Jobs Apple clearly did not lack confidence or guts. Cook is a limp dishrag whose show of guts was to introduce the butterfly keyboard and touch bar. Huge costlt failures which were not asked for by customers.

In my daily life I use multiple apple devices. Desktop, laptop, iPad and iPhone. The phone in my use is a phone. I like the small form factor. Fits in my pants, can use with one hand. For every use case where I need more 'muscle' I use the other devices.
I understand that for use cases where the phone serves as a manage-all-device you want both pro and max.
I'm sorry to see my mini go ... mindful of the fact that (maybe) most other people have different use cases.

I highly doubt they consider anything posted here, or on reddit or similar sites.

The CEO has to please the customers too… a CEO in such a company with a following like apples has to please both customers and shareholders.

Then neither of us are completely sure… thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The Apple I loved died with Steve Jobs.
I still love my devises and need them.
Simple as that.

I could’ve invested in Apple stocks, and there was a time that I wished that I had done that.
Today, absolutely not. I’m glad I didn’t.
I rather invest in what is ethical and in what I believe in. I don’t believe in Apple’s business model.
Only doing things for the money, it doesn’t bring happiness. I’ve seen that far too many times.

I was thinking of buying HomePods fairly soon in addition to the HomePod Mini’s I have.
Then I started to check up the market.
There are plenty of good speakers from really good music brands today.
Ah well, It will come down to the cost.

If no small iPhone Mini in the future, I buy another small phone.
Apple really have to be better if they will get my money, the brand itself have no authority in my life.

I'm a shareholder, and I want to see big free cash flow per share, and don't give a damn about profit margin. But it looks like someone keeping Tim Apple in his job is obsessed with it. Also the Mini had very little impact on the demand of other sizes, while Plus simply just cannibalizes the normal iphone and the pro max. I guess the number of people who bought an iphone becasue of the existence of the plus is in the single digits.
It’s like I’ve said for a while… Apple’s need to impress Wall Street is at odds with my need to remain liquid. I wonder if I should simply take the $900-$1200 price of an iPhone this year and buy Apple stock instead.

Meanwhile, I have thought about trying out the 6.7-inch iPhone screen size but don’t want to pay the price of a Pro Max. It looks like this year might be my final opportunity to pick up a Plus.

First of all, I personally find the iPhone mini screen too small, specifically too narrow compared to the aspect ratio of the mini, and the width of the iPhone 8. I’m not saying that I prefer the width of the regular 6.1 inch iPhone, because that’s a bit too wide. However, I think making it a tiny bit bigger, in the realm of 5.8 inches, would have made it the perfect sized iPhone for me. Emphasis on for me.
Yep, this is subjective. I specifically went from the iPhone 6 to the first SE because the 6 was a tad bit too wide for my thumbs.

I agree with the naming being a problem, they should at least have chosen a less cute moniker, like “compact”. Or 12S/13S, S being secretly for “small”, but everyone would have bought the S model thinking it is more advanced. ;)

No small phone, Mini, I take my money elsewhere!
It’s very true that there are options other than Apple. Other companies have some products in the same categories that are as good or better.

Over the past 10 years I’ve seen Microsoft’s surface range really come into its own. Build quality that rivals apples offerings.

I’ve got a surface laptop go 2. Despite it being cheaper than my MacBook Air M2 I often pick it up instead… since Apple discontinued the MacBook 12 inch it was a nice replacement. It actually has a really nice keyboard and trackpad that trumps my MacBook Air M2

It’s such a shame they didn’t release it as a pro model, saving $100 wasn’t very high up on anyones list of priorities when it came to this phone.

At the time it was also still one of the largest phones they’ve ever released, so the naming was a off to say the least.

Maybe they couldn’t fit the triple pro camera but they could’ve used the same materials and called it Pro anyway.
