By "beginning" you mean mid July? But by then I'm sure the 2014 chip will be out in the begining of 2014. So, perhaps people should just hold out until then?

If the iMac isn't updated this Wednesday, I'm getting a sandy bridge 2011 model and maybe I'll sell and upgrade at some point in 2013, but I personally am not going to wait muc longer.

March 2013 is the prediction, still in the Early 2013 trimester of 2013. If Apple releases an iMac in September, and they adhere to their previous 8-10 month lifecycle, then by month 6, it will both be (a) early for a refresh, and (b) running out-of-date hardware. Not that the iMac hasn't been guilty of this in the past, but still; odds of an iMac announcement coinciding with this month's iOS-fest is slim to none. So, if they do it in either October or November, that just means that the iMac will be using up-to-date tech for much less of its refresh life cycle than if they had just waited.

Mind you, Apple has done this in the past with the Mac mini; it's not inconceivable that they will do this with the iMac and the Mac mini this time around, especially with such an increased emphasis on Mac notebooks and iOS devices.

Would the 680m be a likely candidate?

Sort of reminiscent of the 8800 GS in the 2008 24-incher model?

"Macs" are only something like 15% total of Apples business. If they update the laptops...why not the Desktops and Minis? I can understand maybe the Mini's since they get minimal support in stores, but the iMacs take up a decent amount of space.

Talking about space. MacPro take most space of all Macs, and all the time in the world to spec-bump it

it will be updated until the end of october, so its accurate

I've heard/read too many things the last couple of months, all while the status was "Updates soon".

I don't buy it anymore!

(pun intended)

Looks like by the 12th we might have an answer if the latest rumors are true.

The only thing Sept 12th will tell us is if the Sept 12th rumors are correct. Given that one was retracted and another had no sources, and given the way Apple usually does this sort of thing, expect Sept 12th to come and go without an iMac.

If you really want a drop-dead date after which you should stop expecting an iMac in 2012, that would be around November 13.

Poster is talking about the space they take up in the Apple Store, not your office space. Most non-flagship Apple Stores have one MP at best. iMacs have a table and wall space too.

No need to be concerned. I was cool with the poster. I was being sarcastic to Apple for giving so little space .. And time .. And spec bump .. And updates .. to a product (MacPro) which supposedly takes most space, and eventually most expensive of all.

I believe that deserves a thousand rolleyes.

If Digitimes are to be believed then an (low/mid end) iMac release is immanent.

High end one's are rumored to be delayed. Also 13.3" Retina MBP is mentioned.

This sounds like what that analyst predicted last month with the roadmap saying the 21.5" would come out then the 27" would be later...

Mod too busy too close it maybe?

Soon a thread will come along discussing the new iMac range.

why is this thread still alive?

Because people are discussing the possibilities as in other threads about whether or not and when new iMacs may be released.

Why is November 13th the cutoff point?

Why is November 13th the cutoff point?

It's the last Tuesday before Thanksgiving Week. It would be extraordinary for Apple to do a product launch in the middle of prime holiday shopping. Possible, certainly, but we're talking probabilities here.

I would love to see the Nvidia 680m. Possible with 4 gb Vram. That would be nice for 2560x1440 + thunderbolt display.

I think a 128 GB SSD should be standard for the main HDD. Remove the ODD. Secondary HDD, should be something reliable. Many peoples iMacs seem to fail due to HDDs.

I would also like to see a Keyboard, with and without numeric keys with backlighting.

Mac's are only something like 15% total of Apple's revenue, not 15% total of Apple's business. Even so, desktops have only made up a fourth of their Mac sales for a while now. Most people buying a Mac these days, buy a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air. This is also evident in their current Apple Store layout; one table devoted to Mac minis and the Mac Pro, one table devoted to the iMac, one table devoted to 13" MacBook Pros, one table devoted to 15" MacBook Pros, one table devoted to MacBook Airs, one table devoted to the 15" Retina MacBook Pro; that's four to two, and really that sounds more or less proportionate.

From Computer World today:

"Apple had been expected to introduce the new all-in-one desktop earlier this year, but this slipped into summer and, if we’re honest, we could be waiting until 2013."

From the same article about Digitimes reporting:

"“Digitimes?” I hear you say. “Can you rely on anything they say?” Probably not..."
