I think the MacBook Pro will get an Air/MacBook/Apple style keyboard eventually. Adding one would be a case re-design, otherwise it would look weird. And clearly Apple isn't ready to do a case redesign yet.

Notice too that the cursor keys in the bottom right no longer have home/end/page(up)/page(down) on them. I wander if Fn+Cursor key still performs these functions?

no more small 'enter' key on the right...now a second option key

I, for one, welcome our new option key. I had that key remapped to option with DoubleCommand anyway. However, on the MBP the cmd-opt-right combo wouldn't work, which means I had to use *gasp* two hands to move between tabs in Firefox...

Is is still the same hassle wrt changing the drive? Probably, since they've kept the shell, but I haven't seen anything about it.

They also seem to have replaced the backlighting with the same bluish backlighting that is present on the Macbook Air. I was very sad though to find that they didn't update the keyboard to a top-notch one like the Air/MB, I absolutely despise the squishy MBP keyboard.

i love the MBP keyboards.... its actually one of the main reasons i want a new MBP instead of a MB

That's good. Still would have liked to seen chicklet.

I suppose I'll have to wait until next time for these:

Blu-Ray
Media Key Row instead of FN
Fingerprint Reader
Magnetic Latch
Replaceable HDD
SSD Option
Chicklet Keyboard
Wi-Max/3G/4G Connectivity
Wireless USB
ExpressCard/54 instead of /34
High Res Display for 15"
2.0 MP iSight
Memory Card Reader
Black Option

Meh
I don't understand
Meh
Needs it Stat!
Rephrase to easier to replace hard drive and you have it
Expensive but nice
Would love it
Meh, too many options out there
Meh, it isn't ready yet, and consumes an obscene amount of battery
Meh
OK, but how high res? 1680*1050 is about as high as I would want it\
You really want this? This is on your list?
It would be sooo bitchin if it was black

Two things that may get on people's nerves about this:
  • no more num lock as mentioned earlier
  • no more small 'enter' key on the right...now a second option key (look in above post)

There's no more numbers in a "keypad" layout either, I guess that's why num lock has gone. Hmm...

How soon will keyboard protectors and cases be available for the new mbps? i want 2 put them on as soon as i get mine...

Second. I find my MBP keyboard much easier to type on. I never got the feel of the MB keyboard, especially the awful arrow keys. Hope the new MBP keyboard retains the same feel.

Agree...I also like this style of the enter key better than the last ones

I would bet that the physical layout and size of these new MBP keyboards is the same as the previous ones...so...just get a keyboard protector now.

From what I’ve read MB/MBA/BT keyboards all retain the Fn+Cursor functions, even though their arrows are blank, so I think it’s a pretty safe bet it will still work.

I am not sure this will happen. Else, essentually apple will be putting old design features into there top of the range product.
And i am still not sure why they didnt make the air keys silver to match the case?

Losing the enter key certainly is a pain - particularly if you use applications like Mathematica which use the return key for carriage return, and the enter key for, well, enter.

Is there now an alternate way to use the numbers that were on those keys?? (without using the regular row of numbers)

I think apple is moving more towards this direction, they did the same on the wireless keyboard, and that was really a surprise, but i dont really use num lock, or those keys, so i guess other users are following this pattern aswell. Ill miss the other enter key.

I've always thought a num lock key seemed kinda pointless and archaic. I mean think about it, you're pressing a key that enables you to use the other keys. What?

Only tangentially related here, but I have wanted a bluetooth keyboard w/ a dedicated number pad. I do not need the number pad on the run, but at home, I like a number pad, it is so much faster then the row of numbers. The numbers on the keyboard never really did it for me (could never touch type them). I was bummed that apple took off the keypad on the wireless keyboard.
