I really prefer the layout of the new keyboard to the on on my mbp. Is there anyway that i can configure my keys to work like the new one. or better yet can I upgrade my keyboard to the new one? Do i have to reconfigure the keys to do that or is it just a plug and play thing?

They removed the num lock key and got rid of the numbers that were on the letters.

Does this mean that you can no longer simulate a numeric keypad? This would be a major drag for anyone using Sibelius (music publishing software) as it makes extensive use of the numeric keypad for quick data entry - at least my old version 1.2 does and I doubt if this has radically changed even though they're now up to version 5.

In any case I, for one, would really miss the keypad - even without Sibelius. This might make my decision about whether to buy the new 2.4 or go with one of the old refurbs (2.2 or 2.4).

Also, any opinions on the value of the multitouch trackpad? I plan to work alot with photos.

Yes it's a drag for Sibelius users. Version 5 works the same way, but I tend to use an external keyboard for that or just the mouse.

God.. if this thing was black it would be so sweet.

I want a 12" inch black MBP
Magnetic Latch
Replaceable HDD
SSD Option
Chicklet Keyboard
2.0 MP iSight
Memory Card Reader

But I would settle for a 12" version of the current blackbook. Although integrated graphics would be cool.

^Why nobody uses it.. I use it for Quicksilver just because otherwise it sits there and does nothing.

When you say "blue-ish" tint for the backlit keyboard, how blue is blue? Who prefers the white-ish over the blue?

Enter key is distinct from carriage return. More apps should make use of it but don't. In Mathematica, you write expressions and then evaluate them. The return key allows you to start a new line in writing your expression, the enter key is what you press to evaluate or "enter" the expression.

old key board

can anyone post pictures of the two MBP keyboards side by side or a close up of the old board? I just ordered a new one and don't know the difference. Thanks!!

I figured I should at least search for it myself. Hope this helps someone else.

From the above picture of the blue it looks pretty blue compared to the picture of the white.

Think I prefer the white. This new keyboard should have children with the old one to get the best of both...white backlight, new media keys, little enter, num lock & keypad.

Seems like the only good thing about the new one is the rearranged media keys

That's what I was thinking too... I kinda like the white backlit keyboard... and them taking off the Apple icon and replacing it with "command" seems less... Apple-like... I'm missing the old style keyboard already. :( Though I would save $200 if I upgraded to the new one. :D Decisions decisions...

Ok... also, does anyone know if they changed the white pulsating light to the blue to match the "blue-ish" lit keyboard?

Have a NEW MACBOOK PRO AND IT DOES NOT HAVE THE NEW KAYBOARD LAYOUT.

I bought mine today, it's a 2.4, 200 gig with multi-touch and i can confirm it does NOT have the newly pictured key board layout.

Just thought id warn people that the pics you see may not on be the same as the MBP you buy.

Are you sure you have the multitouch and its not the sr version??

100% sure it has multi touch, tried em all out as i had the air before this and it can do everything that can, except the touch pad is still small and not large like the airs one.

It is a 2.4 and does have 200gig ram.

If it has multi-touch it cant be the sr version can it???

Is there anyway to tell?

There is also another post on here somewhere by mr.penryan i think, he has the new MBP and like me has the old keyboard layout.

I have UK keyboards and those have symbols instead of text for the TAB, CAPS LOCK, SHIFT, RETURN, BACKSPACE, COMMAND, OPTION and ENTER keys. Does the US keyboard really have DELETE instead of BACKSPACE? Because these are not the same at all.
