They have really butchered Messages

And I'm stubborn for a reason. All progress depends on those who refuse to settle for mediocrity.
So you consider the ability to "like" someone's text message or to "scribble" like an etch a sketch as innovative and useful as the transition from a typewriter to a computer? That explains a lot.
Um, you're missing some other features they added. But, putting just those in to perspective; in the past, to like what someone said, you had to type it. Now you can just press and like. Saves time. As for the "etch a sketch" you joke about, some people like receiving handwritten messages. It brings back what was lost with the advent of SMS. And believe it or not, a picture says a thousand words. Being able to quickly sketch out an idea can save tons of typing and even assist greatly in a voice conversation. Of course, you have to have the ability to comprehend complex systems and ideas to understand any of this so................
Weird... iMessage is usually something most people using Apple products tout as a great thing. I've used all the messengers including the ones Android tries to ... perfect but consistently fails at. I liked Google Voice, I liked Hangouts but no one else that I knew did. iMessage is far superior - Just most people I know use Telegram. Yes, it would be nice for iMessage to be cross platform but I think that's what makes it so fast and great.
You act like there's more to be done - what advancements do you think need to be done?
I've used every messenger out there. Many are bloated, offer way too many features and sacrifice reliability and ease of use. I feel iMessages is near perfect and it works really well. I've used the sketch with my wife and it works nicely.
Telegram is one of the last cross platform messengers. I'm old school but I have to have it on my work PC - I don't want to pick up my phone every 10 mins to talk to people. Besides typing with thumbs is so slow.
As much as I support your right to an opinion, you act like it is fact instead of opinion and you belittle those that don't agree with you. Makes it difficult to discuss.

Funny thing is, he's always complaining about how iOS used to be better but he's been complaining about every little thing since 2012.
If the phone slows down due to an OS upgrade on the same hardware then what does that tell you? It tells you that the OS upgrade is SLOWER and BLOATED. You don't need to be a computer programmer to come to that conclusion, for goodness sake. Each successive release of iOS is targeted for the latest, greatest, fastest iPhone, which is fine. But let people DOWNGRADE back to where they were previously after they make the terrible mistake of upgrading. Don't obsolete my hardware by preventing me from installing what I was running previously because I made the terrible mistake of upgrading. Go buy a new iphone? Yeah, right, no.

iMessages is the thing that keeps me using iOS and also Android is a garbage phone OS. That doesn't mean that iMessages is the business. It has gone down hill terribly with the trash they added like stickers, and animated backgrounds, etc. It's all eye candy which gets in the way of the core function of iMessages. To send TEXT MESSAGES.
It's not a tough discussion as Apple isn't forcing you to upgrade but they are preventing you from going back, so that cancels any security argument. It's a one way door so you're stuck with the wrong decision. I can't restore my device to its previous state due to artificial software constraints.
This should really be a class action lawsuit.
I'm not belittling anyone, it's just extremely aggravating when you feel like you're talking to a wall

And? It's continued to go downhill every year. The ONLY thing that has improved is the GUI and animations of iOS 7. Autocorrect is like night and day from how good it used to be.
If it truly has gone downhill like you said it has, nobody would be using it. It's not perfect but it's far from terrible as you claim.
Not true at all, it can go downhill but still but the best option out. That's not saying much.

Or, the OS has more features and has been designed for and with the newest devices. Don't like it, don't update.
1) you admit it was your mistake to update, and you want apple to fix it?
2) because we all know that someone who gets hacked after downgrading won't blame Apple... smh
That's what I SAID in the part of my message you didn't quote. How can I know if I like it or not without doing an UPGRADE in the first place?!?!?!?!?!?
My mistake? Why is it a one way door? You should ALWAYS be able to return from where you came. Apple will get blames regardless of my ability to upgrade or downgrade. That's a redundant excuse as well you know.
Stop being disingenuous and actually acknowledge Apple is foolhardy to prevent downgrades. It's good for the consumer and good for the environment. It's not good for Apple's bottom line which is why they refuse to support it.
