I don't think this will be pro-ready. At first i thought the idea of it not having an optical drive to be crazy. But the more i think about it, it is a good idea. It will make this laptop truly unique from the rest of the line. You can detach a bulk of your stuff, but take what you need with you. I don't think a touch screen would be comfortable at all for this design. Maybe for a tablet of some kind for use other than a lot of typing. I think the iPod Touch is perfect for someone who wants access to the internet and email. I'm hoping to hear an announcement of the sdk for the iphone/ipod touch today. Also iTunes movie rentals!!

omg where's the firewire 800 and the Parallel port?! And my laser turret adap...

Sorry...

It's multiple markets. Hell - my MacBook Pro has one use for it's superdrive once I've got all my software onto it - and that is to hold my Civ 4 dvd...

Perhaps apple would add download purchases for all their software, or all the software on the Apple Store - that would be cool.

Seriously though - if this thing has flash storage, it's unlikely to be doing things like playing games, running Aperture, editing video. We're talking a simple tool with simple tasks...

To be honest I think while the mockup looks nice, it also looks way too much like a photoshopped Apple Keyboard. Hardly inspiring.

Not long now anyway til we know.

the one thing that i dont like about the rumors is the lack of an optical drive
isnt that pretty limiting?

still
it looks amazing

I dont see what all the fuss is about. Ok its an apple super thin laptop but theres no way it will be thinner then the Sony VAIO VGN-X505ZP.

design details

On trusted reviews they have the Keynote notes that were leaked on wikipedia. Obviously they could be fake but it seems legit enough. The Macbook Air seems to be just the new iteration of the Macbook. With aluminium enclosure (probably referencing iMac design cues) 1440x900 screen, 0.8 inch thick, and a sliding, side loading optical drive (with no combo drive option). Updated processors, no dedicated graphics.

Seems about right to me. Another line of Macbook Air laptops would be hard to place in the current lineup.

It was photoshopped and is not real...just read the specs, not only do they not make sense (2.8 Processor and the SSD is not in 8/16/32 GB increments). Also, there are errors in the writing, as it says "Macbook" not "Macbook Air."

Ah, ok. Got excited that I had some "news" there for a minute. I'm not too savy with mockup detection. I'll have to call him on it.

Thanks for the debunk link.

Thin MacBook Design Details?

Let me remind myself, Apple can, and does leak FALSE rumors.

However, if that's what we're going to get.

My GOD.

How long to be in heaven?

Looking forward to the new Mac Pros with different specs to those released last week then?

Personally, the first time I saw the new wireless keyboard, I thought this would be a great form factor to add a display for an ultra-portable.

Combine this with the connector patent, and Apple's other patent concerning laptop design, and I think we just may see something like this.

I guess we'll know soon. :)

I find it hard to believe Apple would plaster "There's Something in the Air" across their website for a new MacBook case design. It's got to be something bigger. There will probably be a new sub-notebook, but my favorite rumor so far is that Apple will use a satellite to bring content directly to your TV.

hey guys check this out pocket lint just posted steve jobs speech.
Fake. Too many logic errors, although I am sure some of what is mentioned will be true.

does anyone have an idea on how long it will take for apple to start selling the new macbook?(assuming there is one!)
In the past there would be delays up to 6 months.

However, recently many things are available the day of the announcement or shortly thereafter.

My guess is that the updates will be available, but there will be some delay -- say 30 days -- for new product introduction.

Also, I am sure SJ will mention some future items such as iPhone introduction in Japan.

Bottom line, who knows.
