I don't think I've seen this (the printer) much in the US. To be honest, paying for retail goods in the US with checks has become fairly uncommon. It's bad to say, but you see it more in low SES neighborhoods, because people have less stable credit, and/or don't trust themselves with credit or debit cards. But in terms of technology, the emphasis here has been much more on installing terminals at stores for people using credit/debit so that they can swipe themselves, enter their own PIN number, sign digitally, etc.

walmart has the printers, they are the only store that i know of that has 'em in the US at least

When your at the checkout and someone says, I think I'll use a check and takes 5 minutes to write the whole check out from scratch.

Oh, how could I forget? Them, and the people who cant use the PIN pads to swipe their own card and take 20 minutes to figure it out. It isnt that difficult, everyone I've seen has step-by-step directions, yet people still cant use the damn things.

Jeez, I meant to post on this thread around noon today, but I got the "server is too busy" message (let's make that my pet peeve #1, shall we?). Now it's ballooned to 5 pages - we sure have a lot to bitch about, eh? But that's understandable, considering there's way too many stupid people out there.

Anyway, here's my official list (trying not to duplicate what's already been said, most of which I back whole-heartedly):

- SUVs with the flag/GW/yellow ribbon/Choose Life stickers plastered on the back window. Do these things roll off the assembly lines with flag decals as a standard feature or what?!?!

- People who talk incessently about TV, esp. the reality shows such as American Idol and Survivor.

- People who claim to "hate reading" and actually seem proud of that fact.

- People who say they liked a movie because it was "cute".

- People who don't know the difference between "your" and "you're" and "its" and "it's".

- Junk mail and wasteful packaging.

This makes me want to kill people (well, of course not literally  )

People who argue with everything. Even if they know they are not 100% correct, they just argue.

I am in Babe Ruth baseball league and in the car with my mom and sister I said the bases are 90 feet apart, a fact. My sister than says "No! They arent 90 feet!" and I say "Yep, they are" and she starts going on and on about why they arent.

Another is just with my screwed-up-in-the-head-moronic-should-die-a**hole-teacher. He is a Mac user though so that brings him up a LITTLE. He always goes "LEAVE MY ROOM!" and I reply "I didn't do ANYTHING!" and he yells back, "Exactly! You didn't do anything! You didn't do your work..." and I want to stab him.

Another is long posts like these... ;)

When FedEX doesnt update their site with my Tiger Location?
Haha. I've been sent stuff via Fedex before. I'll get my tracking number, it will say "Left Fedex in [city]" and will never update. Package will arrive on time, then a couple days later, the tracking page is updated with everywhere the package's been.

I also hate people who work for a store and don't know a thing they sell. I had Tiger preordered, but had to cancel because another expense came up. Well, I made some more cash to pay for Tiger the past couple days, but too late to preorder and get it by Friday. So I'm like, "I'm a student, I'll go to a campus bookstore and get it Friday for the edu price." So I start out at the bookstore on my campus. I went there and asked if they would have copies in Friday and if I could preorder. I get a blank stare, followed by "What are you looking for again?" I explain, followed by "Um, I'm not sure. I don't really know what Mac OS is." Screw them, I leave. Since I'm going home Friday for the weekend, I call a campus bookstore at a college in my hometown. Ask about Tiger, "I have no idea what you're talking about and the computer guy isn't here right now." Now, I don't expect them to be an expert on Tiger and explain its new features, nor do I expect them to know how to even use a computer. However, as an employee of a store, I would expect them to know what products they (will) have, especially something as big as Tiger.

Duff-Man says....here's a few....

- "senior's day" at the grocery store...talk about slowing things to a snail's pace...I try to avoid it whenever I can....why don't they have a "no senior's day" too so I can get through the checkout in less than 15 minutes?
- banks that have a service charge for making a deposit. I absolutely refuse to do any business with them. They already nickel and dime everyone to death with every service charge for ATM's and other withdrawals....now you want to charge me to take my money so you can earn more money with it?
- people that are consistently late. Okay, once in a while something happens and you do not get somewhere when you expect to, but when it happens almost all of the time you are trying to "control" me and have no respect for me and that is not acceptable.

....I could probably go on and on and on....oh yeah!

And people who confuse is and are.

Like "Where is the staplers" instead of "Where are the staplers"
I have heard it far to many times- amazingly!

And people who type "to" when they mean "too", it just makes me want to punch them or something.

...Nah, not really. ;) For some reason that's not anywhere remotely near as annoying as "would of."

Things that endlessly annoy:

How about the "strawman" strategy that has become popular/essential in politics? And/or repeating a false statement until it becomes accepted and true.

Politicians that use their love of "Jesus" as a justification for everything... along with the people that believe them.

Oh, and note to dubya: It's not " 'Merca " There is an "A" and an "I" in America. Come on, you can do it.

Television ads that are twice as loud as the normal programming.

Lazy people/slobs.

Fresh off the slab...

A guy at work who is aware of my Mac affiliation has been itching to tell me something Apple-flavoured over the last couple of days. For the combined reason of me being busy and perversely wanting him to be annoyed at my aloofness I didn't speak to him until this morning.

WIth bright chirlish grin he said that he managd to get a fortnight old Mac mini for £265 (£75 below retail) off eBay, with local paynow collectnow convnience that is less than a fortnight old and qualifyies for Tiger. Turns out the owner only had it for 2 days and realised he was a PC man through and through !!

Sure, I concede that there are worse things in the world that makes my blood boil ... but I certainly didn't wanna hear that in the morning ....

Sorry but I don't quite get this one. Is it the fact that someone gave the mini a try and disliked it that annoys you?

Nah, the bit I find annnoying is the bloke managed to scoop a good deal from under my nose, after some guy spent 48hrs deciding he didn't like it. Stuff like this goes on the time all over the place ... but to have it that close to me bites a bit.

I think the boiling of the blood comes purely out of jealousy.

I agree with all of the above. Basically, inconsiderate/rude people drive me insane, which means, not indicating when driving, driving polluting vehicles, dropping litter, playing loud music late are all traits of basically inconsiderate people, and as I get older  I believe they're getting worse. Blimey.

So, I shall add - the general culture of "hey, I'm stupid, look how cool I am". This isn't about people with learning difficulties (have no problem at all with that), but there is this culture in the UK (and maybe elsewhere) that being intelligent, using 'big words', admitting to having read a book once (and enjoying it  ), being keen to learn etc, is seen as lame. It started in primary school, and is there through secondary school, university and even work. Really odd. It's similar to the "no really, I am working class (innit) my dad had a job once" culture, where people try to make themselves seem as poor as possible and it all turns into the Four Yorkshireman sketch....

I hate people who won't admit their own mistakes and shortcomings... They make me freak out inside. All those know it alls who knows not very much when it comes to it, but allways have the nerve to stick their nose in your business whith bad, unwanted advice. Who joins discussions with superficial opinions based on misunderstood and/or homemade. And has the inability to belive anything about a given subject that he/she hasn't allready read him/herself in some popular scientific magazine...

I've met several people fitting, at least part of, this description, but I have, right now, sitting right in front of me, someone who fits the entire description perfectly .... aaaarrrrghhh

I also hate people who try to take out a 2nd mortgage at the ATM while I'm waiting in line for 10 minutes just to withdrawl some cash
