This is good news! What did they have you do when in Safe Mode?
I made a call in Safe mode, which temporarily fixed the issue. But it returned the next day. I now went the full length, all the way to a full restore and no backup for the Neo. The bug remains.
Still figuring out how to give them a proper bug report for this tho...

Strange observation - I only have this issue with one person I'm calling. any only if they use their iPad Air 3.Gen.
If the same person, one the same wifi uses the iPhone SE the issue is gone 🫪

What are the chances that on model of iPad is causing this for me?!
Maybe this is it. I almost exclusively use Facetime to call someone with a 5th generation iPad Mini (2020), so maybe it is something about older iPads or just older hardware.

Only disappointing thing is the weight imo. Smaller battery than the air why does it weigh the same?
The mechanical touchpad instead of the haptic one, even if I have to admit is very good, is heavier (86g, 7% of total weight) and the display is a +48g compared to the 13" MBA one (source: iFixit YT channel)

Hope they didn't add ballast just to flex the one-hand lid opening.

Unfortunatelly it was not fixed, the cursor still jumps/lags when hovering with your mouse to any border of screen. Reported this in feedback assistant as well as other people I believe, but no fix was done yet, if it was fixed for you, you are very lucky, ppl are also starting to return the Neos because of this, can't say I haven't thought about doing it too..
I had this trackpad problem with mine. Exchanged it and this new one is fine.

I have noticed a trend on MR where a lot of people are wanting extra RAM, more battery and ports, when the MBP already has the extras. Granted, I get that a lot of people like the slightly smaller, colorful Neo but,I don't think it wise to try and turn the Neo into a MBP replacement, because it isn't meant to be especially for the price.

16GB of RAM won't make the MBN into MBP replacement.

Then you need to go to the MBA forum complain about the Neo and let everyone know.

We are in the Neo forum so we love our Neos...
True so, why are you spending so much time putting down the Neo when you have no intentions of getting one? What you are doing isn't productive.

I agree 100% with both of you.

He just needs to stop trying to turn coal into diamonds and buy a MBA that will sit his needs instead of moaning abut the Neo.

Not counting the diagonal screen dimensions, there is only 1/16 to 5/16 of an inch difference between the Neo and Air in all other dimensions. And there is only 5/8 of a difference in the screen dimensions when measured diagonally, which is how screens are measured.

And most will not even notice that small of a difference unless they have the Neo and Air right next to each other.

The Neo is meant to be a budget MacBook for those that are casual users. They aren't worried about specs or how much RAM it has.

And adding features to the Neo will only push the price higher and too close to the price of the MacBook Air. Apple did things right keeping them separate as they did.

Again, if the Neo doesn't suit your needs then buy the Air. There is no reason to keep being negative about something you will probably never buy.

My idiosyncratic list of things that don't seem quite right on the Neo (well, my Neo at least!). None are deal breakers (although I would really like the Facetime bug to get fixed). Have you found stuff that isn't quite right?

1. Facetime - video is zoomed in and I can't seem to change it to the normal view. I see normal view until I am on a call, then basically just my eyes and nose for the person on the other end. Reading elsewhere it might be tied to Center Stage on other machines, and so perhaps its absence on the Neo is messing something up?

2. External display (Studio Display, original one) - two problems! a) choice of resolutions is very limited and only default (1920x1080) and 4K are crisp. The intermediate setting (2560x1440) is some gosh-awful fuzzy rendering that really isn't useable. I suspect this might be a limitation of the A18 Pro? b) External display, if you choose Advanced>Show Resolutions as List, there is no way to go back to the default icon list, even if you reset the switch. The list has extremely limited choices.

3. Speakers - OK, more of a whine here, but I hope Apple redesigns on the next iteration. While the sound quality is good, it is too dynamic. At a given setting quiet sounds are inaudible and loud sounds are annoyingly loud. Also, the sound is super directional: OUT from the machine, rather than UP towards the humble listener, so you lose much of the listening experience.

#2 is a macOS problem, not a Neo problem. MacOS has terrible scaling. At the resolution I run on my external, on my M5 Air, it looks like a fuzzy-ass mess. BetterDisplay fixes it, and I've read it does the same on the Neo.

After checking the MBA and MBA side by side, there is a clear difference in size.

And to be clear, I never said anything negative about the MBN, all I said was that it needed more RAM and storage options, which could have been made very simple by adding a third option.

MacBook Neo: portable budget
MacBook Air: portable performance
MacBook Pro: maximum performance

I’m not sure what some people find so difficult to understand. The three MacBook lines are very well separated with clear focus. The only outlier is the base MBP. But it probably sells well and it lowers the “from” price.

Apple also often starts with a simplified offering to test the waters. It’s smart. They can see who actually buys it for what and how people react. Then the next generations are improved accordingly.

I think Apple knocked it out of the park with the Neo. That doesn’t happen so often with a first generation.

Neo is made with cast aluminum and heat forged making thicker case material, but very strong.

MBA and MBP are machined from solid aluminum making for thinner and lighter casing.

And because of this, the Neo feels more premium lol. Density is so important to making a product feel good.
The bottom plate of the pro/air's, especially 15 and 16" ones, feel flexible when holding it. Feels very cheap and unsubstantial.
