Tires - it's the only part of the car that touches the ground.
Gasoline - your car was made to run on octane. you should buy the highest octane content available.
Guns & Ammo - for obvious reasons.
Food & Water - you are what you eat.

That's about it.

My top 3 are
1. Sky-Diving lessons/sessions
2. Gasoline-AKA the regular cheapest quality/
3. Tires. And auto brakes for cars

I had to drive 4 hours each way to get to the best sky diving drop zone in my province. No regrets :)

This thread made me think of all the stuff I do cheap out on...

I wonder how much people think they're getting high end, when they're really just getting slightly higher low end. For example, a lot of people mentioned tires, but how many get tires that aren't still type S, only rated to 180 km/h? What about aluminum rims? For alcohol, are we talking triple distilled vodka, or 5x distilled? For toilet paper, are we talking 3 ply, or getting a bidet?

What is special about aluminum rims? I am only 15 which is why i have no idea. My parents cars both have them but I just dont see any benefit besides the looks

Toilet paper

Optics - Acog, Eotech, Nikon
Bow - Alpine, Easton, Montec
Writing supplies - Pilot G2
Electronics - Apple, Ultimate Ears, Alpine, Kicker, Infinity
Water bottles - Sigg, Nalgene
Bicycles - Redline, Fetish Cycles
Hamburgers - Fitzwilly's, The Chicken, Koppe Bridge
Beer - Red Stripe, St. Arnolds, Guinness Extra Stout
Camping supplies

I don't like buying twice. I'm careful with my stuff so if it breaks then I can usually get a warranty on it. I don't see the point in buying cheap crap because it just breaks and then you get to buy it again.
If it's something I need to depend on (tools, camping supplies, knives, guns, optics), I'm not about to skimp.

Some things I will buy cheap. Such as vodka.

I race a 05 honda 450r

I very much doubt any one as aluminium wheels/rims. They will have alloy rims but that's very different. That said generic alloys tend to be pretty rubbish, frequently weighing almost the same as standard steel wheels. I have OZ Racing wheels which are exceptionally light for their size :D

Indeed, magnesium alloy wheels would be much better for strength to weight. And how many people drive over 180 kph or even have cars capable of it? For normal driving, Type S tyres are fine.

This isn't an all-inclusive list lol:

* Shoes.
* diet cola
* car parts
* clothing

I think mattress is a good one.

I don't know about the food one. I guess it depends on what kind of food you are talking about. For example, a local authentic food dive might have better meals that are 10 bucks than say going to a chain like Olive Garden and dropping 20 bucks.

Its also a pretty well know fact a lot of generic products in grocery stores are the same as name band just rebranded. There are some things that aren't good cheap though like cheese and cereal. So I guess it all depends, but I would not say food as a whole.

Grass-finished beef
Organic, free-range eggs
Escorts, always pay extra for GFE — totally worth it
Child seats

I generally dont cheap out on much. Ill by the best quality item I can afford, and if I cant get something that is of very good quality I wont get it all.

That said, the things that I will cheap out on are:

Clothing
entertainment (i hate spending boatloads of cash for a fleeting moment of fun, i.e. concerts)
eating out (also hate spending boatloads of cash on a meal)

I cheap out on a lot of things. :cool: Having said that, I do a lot of research before purchasing, so more often than not, I don't need to buy high-end to get something decent. I'm looking for value for money, not to buy cheap or high-end.

Beer/alcohol: I never get the lowest end, but I rarely get the good stuff. There are lots of good beers available for a good price.

Whisky? I usually drink Jamesons, butI'm currently drinking Bushmills "Black Bush".

For clothes, I have a different way of thinking. If I like something, and I know that I can't find it, or anything similar, cheaper from any other brand or store, I may buy it even if it costs a lot. For example, I bought a $50 "tank top" in Japan 2 weeks ago. It sounds ridiculous because people instantly think, "You're paying for so little fabric!" Nobody pays for the amount of material used. The fabric and design were unique enough for me to spend the money.

No one likes crumbly TP especially when it disintegrates mid wipe and you suddenly find yourself without that all important bowel vs. fingers barrier which makes one need to wash their hands in boiling hot water to remove the stink and the layers of skin that touched the layers of skin that scooped up some chunks by accident..

Problem is that I try to buy toilet paper made from recycled paper, and regardless of which brand I choose, the paper falls apart. I want good stuff, but I'm trying to be good and buy recycled. However, I'm so frustrated at the t.p. situation that I may say "Screw it" and get decent stuff.

I will never cheap out on anything I buy for my dad - period.

As for myself, I WILL buy some cheap things, but anything I depend on, or don't want to waste my time on - I throw down $.

I just got some recycled TP from my roomies, and my first thought is that they go the (#*$ing cheap stuff AGAIN, but when I used it - it's as durable as the expensive stuff I get, and lasts a LOT longer. Gotta find the name if this golden gem.
