I've decided how I'm gonna decide whether or not to buy an iPad. Flip a coin! Now if I could quit procrastinating and flip the dang coin... It's too late right now so I can't. Maybe I should go to be then.

I just got for Xmas and I love it. If you really want it get it now, there's always going to be a newer model, then it will be obsolete when the iPad 3 comes out and so on. You can always sell it later if you decide to get the iPad 2. As for me I'll keep my "old" iPad, I don't care for webcams and USB ports.

Good luck! :)

If you have the idea that you will regret it before you buy it then I'd say you will regret it.

iPad the first came out in April, so I just guessed the second will, too.

No one knows the date the next iPad will come out, only rumors.

I've decided to just take the plunge and get one. I'm always going to want one and the only way I can find out if I don't is to get one and use it. Apple has a good return policy so I can return it in within 14 days even if it's open. Hopefully this will satisfy my curiosity. For the OP, I would advise you to just do it, if you don't it'll just hang over you and you'll never know.

I'm waiting. A few weeks of patience will yield a better device for the entire length of time you have it.

I'm waiting as well, saving more and hopefully will have enough to get the 64gb when it drops.

Why, why, why does this question continue to be asked over and over? I'm just curious why people think the answer will be different for them two days after some other guy posted the exact. same. question. Buy it. Wait to buy it. And yes, you should choose THAT pair of underwear today. What should you have for breakfast? Toast. No butter. No jam. Which way should you drive to work today? Side streets. They're slower but safer. Should you buy organic or not organic? Who knows. It's personal preference. Just like the answer to your original question.

People always say that waiting is stupid, but obviously that's not always true. Make your best guess about the when the new one is coming out, then use this very precise guideline:

Should I buy...
1 day before - no
1 week before - probably not
1 month before - maybe, leaning toward waiting
3 months before - possibly
6 months before - more likely
1 year before - yes

Get the iPad. Got mine for Christmas yesterday and am more than happy with it. Don't worry about he iPad 2. Chances are the only real improvements will be a camera and maybe a speed boost. iDevices always have an amazing resale value, if you want to sell it later and get the two, but there's really no point. Get your iPad now and be happy with it.

The way I see it, a new iPad isn't actually going to do anything useful that you couldn't do with the old one. Sure, you can use the camera to take pictures of your dog and upload it to Facebook. Facetime is nice but if you have an iPhone or iPod or even a mac, it's not really necessary.

So, you wait 3-6 months for an iPad that has some incremental updates or you get an already kick-ass iPad and be content with the awesome web browsing and everything that it does well now. Seems pretty obvious to me.

Well I went ahead and bought one today... Love it! Definitely no regret :)

Christ,

Buy the iPad, then sell it on eBay. Hell, I sold my old iPhone 3G for $180 on ebay, --- that's only $20 less than what I paid for it THREE years ago!

Unfortunately I cannot trust ebay anymore - at least as a seller. They really go all the way to protect the buyer now, much more than needed, and quite a few times a few buyers have misued this. In May, I sold a book which the buyer claimed as used and worn when it was completely wrapped. Anyhow, I got an email from ebay stating that I lied and that I must refund, so I did. However, when I received the book it was only half of what I had shipped out and all the CD's were missing. Ebay's response was simply "sorry we can't help it."
My point is simply that yes the iPad will have a good re-sale value but I doubt you can sell it on ebay and not be scammed as a seller.

Yup eBay is a good way to part with your device and money. I've heard too many horror stories were someone will sell something, the buyer will claim it's not as advertise, ebay sides with buyer, tells seller to refund money(funny ebay & paypal are one huh), seller gets back a box of rocks and ebay says oh well.

Also with the refurbs being priced low from Apple that affects resell also IMO.

I'm at the point that I've waited this long, I may as well wait till rev 2, get a full years use, before the next release and skip gen3. Gen1 I feel lacks in the memory department. Gen2 should have more memory and a better processor, a few more perks and that should last a person a while.

Also with CES2011 in just a few days I'm going to wait to see what is coming out from other tablet makers. I have no problem with having an Android device

Just get one. If you like the next gen model that much, you can always sell yours when you upgrade. There will always be an active resale market for these.
