I just sold my 64Gig WiFi iPad for $700 with 2 cases, camera connection kit and VGA out cable. Check Craigslist and you can find some great deals out there on used iPads...the market here in Chicago appears to be flooded with them right now although people are paying top dollar.
For me, it has been a great device but I've found that the reading experience is inferior to dedicated e-readers, the browsing experience is inferior to my MBP/MBA and the gaming experience is inferior to the iPhone (its just too big for extended gaming to hold comfortably). Basically, its a jack-of-all-trades, master of none.
If you are concerned at all about buying one now, buy it used. Save a few bucks, not like these things wear out. Search Craigslist, buy locally, pay cash, meet in a public place. eBay is too riddled with scammers and besides....Craigslist will get you one faster.
