I was in a similar boat and I got the Sprint Galaxy S II last week and am really enjoying it! I may return to iOS if the iPhone 5 tempts me, but for now I'm enjoying the change :)

Since I too purchased the SGS2 last week I figure I would provide some pro's and con's of each that I have personally come across.

Pro's
-I really love the 4.3" screen (without a case I can barely feel it in my pocket)
-Customization - you can literally control everything with this thing (widgets are cool too)
-Voice commands - they are actually really nice, especially while driving
-Notifications - I love how these work (IOS 5 will bring these to iphone)
-Performance - the phone overall is quick, loading web pages, scrolling, loading apps etc. I noticed when connnected to WIFI its quicker than my iphone 4 was.
-Camera/video - this camera is awesome - you also have an endless amount of settings to choose from (Yes I know 4s has this too)
-Can add more storage
-Can change batteries

Con's
-Plastic feeling (really cheap plastic back)
-no Mac OS
-Viruses? I've read a lot of people us AVG (I personally don't)
-Wish it had better screen resolution
-Terrible battery (charge to 100% unplug and wake up the next morning at 89%)
-no buttons (I really like at least 1 press-able on screen button)
-Lock screen slider thing looks cheesy
-Can't find any cool 480x800 wallpapers
-Car can't recognize to play through USB
-No itunes library (but I use spotify more now)

I'm sure there are ton's more, but to me overall - I really do miss my Iphone.
I will probably return this one due to the battery and the integration with itunes and ability to connect in my car etc. I can at least say though that I tried it out.

I picked up a Droid X on Verizon last year to go along with my iPhone 3GS on AT&T. I was pretty excited to give Android a chance.

Unfortunately, what I've found with Android is that it is a very unpolished, un-unified operating system. Things that run smoothly on iOS run sluggishly on Android. Even all of the updates to Android (first 2.2, then 2.3) hasn't fixed this. My Droid still crashes a lot more often than my iPhone ever did. Yes, the bigger screen is nice, but it's not worth the loss of reliability and the slowness of my Droid.

Believe me, I wanted to like Android, but I found myself missing my iPhone after the initial "wow" factor wore off. I was soon back to mostly using my iPhone 3GS and made the decision to ditch AT&T, ditch my iPhone 3GS and upgrade to an iPhone 4S on Verizon. I have no regrets.

tried a friends android, dont understand the fascination. I could care less for a large screen because the phone wont fit in my slacks right, looks like I am carrying something more. I find it funny how people think this is a lack luster upgrade. Its not only twice as fast with a better camera but now has an assistant. However because it doesn't have a screen an inch larger its a flop? What if they kept it all the same and just had a bigger screen? Success then?

My thoughts exactly! I hate those rediculously large screens on some Android phones. I want to be able to put my PHONE in whatever pocket I want to. Don't need a tablet disguised as a phone....

Also, this is a GREAT upgrade from the 4. People are letting the case cloud their thinking

Try out an Android phone as much as possible before you switch. I find it difficult to use and once you get past some of the "flashy" stuff like widgets, you realize that it is actually pretty clunky compared to iOS.

"Pretty clunky" is an understatement. Windows 3.1 is elegant compared to the Android tablet my friend owns.

Go for it,

Now is a perfect time cause iPhone 4S is not a big upgrade from the 4.
You can always come back if you don't like Android next year with the new iPhone 5.

Convince you? What are you 12?

Get lost.

And close the door on your way out.
Ohhhhhhh :p calm down

was just asking peoples opinions who have changed, man some people...

I agree some of the size of the screen , e.g. the 4.6" ones etc, are too large a unit for me to carry about day to day. My mates Evo 3D, an the Sensation, size wise don't look to much bigger than the iPhone 4/4S. I still have to hold one in hand, but I'm hoping they are fine. The extra size on my mates Evo 3D compared to my iPhone 4, seemed massive difference

i went to the Htc eve 3d, just because i was bored of iOS and wanted to try it. I couldn't stand it after 2-3 days, but at the same time, it's like an itch, and you have to try it, before you know what you really want
Mate got this phone, have to say was impressed with the 3D, when watching a movie, and nice big screen, but my eyes wouldn't go well with the 3D :)

Have you kept it then after all? what did you thin coverall on experience of OS, phone, actual using it day to day, physical size etc?

cheers

keep your iPhone, and get another phone to hold you over until iPhone 5. I'd recommend staying away from android and going with WP7, however

GO!
we will still be here when you come back after realizing what a dumb move it was but it is like eating spoiled food.... once you have tried it and you see how bad it is, you will be less likely to "defect" next time.
Have a nice time!

you said you wanted a bigger screen? get an ipad... oh wait you got one.. if your phone was any bigger it would be a tablet, the iphone 4 screen is big enough why do you want it bigger, i didnt realise brick wide screens were in season, when calling someone you'd develop arthiritus if it was any bigger lol

Go for it man, you only live once. Then at least you'll know what you really want.

Yup! Go for it. Try out the Android phones. I'm looking for a good one too when and if my 3GS dies on me. Might as well try and see what they're all about before the legendary iPhone 5 comes through.

I like both. My wife and I trade off between the two and keep it interesting. Right now she is getting the 4S, and I am happy playing with my SGS II.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

So I have a iPhone 4 for a year, before that had a 3Gs, I've also got an iPad 2, Apple TVs, iMac so am ab Apple fan.

I like many other iPhone 4 was a little disappointed with 4S. Siri is cool, but I won't use it.

So for the 1st time ever I've looked at Android phones bhave to say I'm impressed. Been looking at Samsung S2, HTC Sensation XE, Xperia Arc S.

I think when the iPhone 5 comes I will get that, but do I stick with my iPhone 4 for another year, or try out one of the above phones and Android?

I'll still have my fix with iOS5 on my iPad 2. So tempted. Big thing for ms is bigger screen, above have 4.3" screens for only a little bigge physical phone.

Anyone any comments, anyone doing same? I hope to get about £330 for my iPhone 4, and above phones SIM free range from £350 for Arc S, £450 for XE, and S2 £410.

Cheers

It's your money. Buy what makes you happy. But don't say you'll never use Siri when you've never used it before I it's current iteration.

Op, trading in everything for a bigger screen may not be a good idea. If you have been an iOS user for a while you will find Android to be clunky and the scrolling will drive you insane. It's your decision but my advice is for you to at least spend some time with the phone you want before you take the plunge.

You could probably get your phone of choice and return it and pay a restocking fee but that could be a waste of money for you. This is just my personal feeling about Android which is made more acute if you're a long time iOS user.

Good luck!!

This attitude always baffles me. Just because YOU don't want a bigger screen and YOU feel that the iPhone screen is plenty does NOT mean that is the case for someone else. Not everyone feels that a 4.3" screen is a tablet. I have a 4.3" screen phone and it fits nicely in my hands, slides in my front slacks pocket with no issues, is easy to use with one hand and is certainly easier on my eyes when viewing it. Now, that said I'm planning to go to an iPhone because I want to join my wife and daughter on iTunes (I pay for it all but can't use it) and it certainly is a much smoother operating system. My biggest reservation? You got it, SCREEN SIZE. My wife and I traded phones for a week. I HATED the iPhone screen. She was indifferent on the screen size of my Droid X. Said the big one didn't bother her, but the smaller one was just fine with her also. You see, different folks want different things.

To the OP, go for it. You may find what you're looking or you may realize why you had an iPhone in the first place. But YOU have a choice and it's worth while for you to explore your options and see what is best for YOU.

Go with the Nexus phones. It's best to try other options and see what you really like. Then, you will get rid of that feeling of "what if I tried this phone?"

I want to know the physical size of the Nexus Prime though. If it has the rumoured 4.6" screen its going to be a big phone. As I say a jump from iPhone 3.5" to Sensation 4.3" is massive in use (I think anyway).

Why are the Nexus line so good? just as its Google doing the software and so is mostly "vanilla" Android?

I thought HTC Sense was well thought of?

It's Android without any of the carrier/manufacturer stuff on it. Closest to a pure Android experience. I personally love the Nexus One because of its build quality and I wish I still have it as a backup device.

i would say try a 4 inch screen droid see if you like now don't be influenced by my experience but android wasn't that optimized for the hard ware and at times i had to reboot the whole thing but don't let this influence you i went android last year preorderd the 4s this year:) go for it
