You have to do what is right for you. I spent a year on Android and I liked it but I opted to return to iOS.

I'm in the same boat. Got the iPhone 3G when it first came out, and left the iEcosystem for the HTC Evo when it launched. I've since upgraded to an Epic (since my Evo broke). While there are many things I love (and will certainly miss) about Android, there are just too many things that don't quite work.

So, iPhone 4S it is! This time I think I'll stick with Apple though, since I certainly don't have any desire to try a BlackBerry, and WP7, though cool looking, doesn't seem like an OS I'd want as my daily driver.

So I have a iPhone 4 for a year, before that had a 3Gs, I've also got an iPad 2, Apple TVs, iMac so am ab Apple fan.

I like many other iPhone 4 was a little disappointed with 4S. Siri is cool, but I won't use it.

So for the 1st time ever I've looked at Android phones bhave to say I'm impressed. Been looking at Samsung S2, HTC Sensation XE, Xperia Arc S.

I think when the iPhone 5 comes I will get that, but do I stick with my iPhone 4 for another year, or try out one of the above phones and Android?

I'll still have my fix with iOS5 on my iPad 2. So tempted. Big thing for ms is bigger screen, above have 4.3" screens for only a little bigge physical phone.

Anyone any comments, anyone doing same? I hope to get about £330 for my iPhone 4, and above phones SIM free range from £350 for Arc S, £450 for XE, and S2 £410.

Cheers

If it helps, I was just talking to a student today who has a Samsung S2 and he said he misses his iPhone 3GS... Don't switch to Android just out of "spite" because you had high expectations for the 4S/5 announcement. And give Siri a closer look... A lot of people are underestimating it or don't fully understand it, I think.

Don't go cheating on that iPhone. Tell her you plan on dumping her for a younger one. Don't ask us in a thread, just talk to her and see why you want to let her go. I could never let her go. Sure, when I test out others, she gets jealous. I tested out a Bold 9930's camera and my iPhone's home button stopped working. She was pissed.

See an apple (Marriage counselor) to work out your differences. If it's looks, well then buy her a new dress (Case). :D

I've been a lurker on these forums for probably a couple years now, but I feel like I had to comment. I, like many others in this thread switched to Android for a little while. I got my iPhone 3gs stolen in January and at the time I figured the new iPhone would be out soon. So I decided I would would just get a Samsung Galaxy S because my thinking was that why would should I buy another 3GS for cheap when I can buy a Galaxy S with faster internal specs for about the same price until the next iPhone. Furthermore, who knows maybe I would like android more because I've heard so much about it being better than iOS.

When I first got the Galaxy S it was great. It had a nice vibrant screen, albeit not as beautiful as the iPhone 4's resolution, but much better than the 3gs. Then I proceeded to root the device since I love being able to push my phone to its limits. Although the freedom and feel of the phone was fun at first. What I realized and this may sound cliche is that I missed the iOS ecosystem because of the fact that "it just works". With android I had to sometimes jump over many loops to get some things to work efficiently which worked instantly on iOS with my Macbook Pro and MobileMe account.

Soon I began to really miss how easy iOS is and as a result am finally returning to the iPhone for the 4s. Don't get me wrong the Android OS is great because i Loved being able to download things just straight to my phone etc and had a lot of freedom while doing so. However, I felt that Jailbreaking my iPhone gave me a lot of the same features that I had on a rooted Android.

Really, I would say try it because I did and it helped me decide which OS i like better and that I enjoyed, but your opinion could be totally different. The next os I may choose to use is Windows Phone. yup.... that was a lot of text sorry...

Why do you want/need anyone to stop you? Just do what YOU want. That's usually best.

I have a 3G and I went one day to the mall and I saw the sweet looking screen on one of the Samsung Droids and I almost lost my cool and was considering it for a while with the added 4G on Sprint. But once I got past that cool rippling water home page on the phone after playing with it for a while I realized it wasn't my iPhone. All my apps Netflix, Slingbox, Itunes and many other to mention here stopped me. Now the new iPhone 4S is just what I need bad. I am so happy I didn't leave for the ripple water screen on that droid, it might have been the Devil. :D:apple:

Make the switch.

Only problem I can see is you'll have to repurchase all your Apps. I'm sure you'll be able to find Android versions or replacement for most of your iOS Apps.

Some funny comments thanks :)

I never said that 4S was a flop, it's just me personally that inwas disappointed. I wanted a bigger screen most off. Everyone knew it would have faster CPU, better camera, I was wanting something else sorry.

I havent held one of the phones yet so need to first as someone says I don't want it too physically big. But mate has an HTC Evo 3D, and obviously it's bigger but want by much.

I lot of things are good on Android, pull down for quick settings is superb for one, having to go through so many clicks to switch on/off Bluetooth is daft. Then Bluetooth is only for headsets? little things like this that's all.

I love Apple stuff, just my phone is always with me and I'm on it constantly, and I like a new phone every year!
you could always jailbreak...that's what I did and one of my favorites is SBSettings..you press and hold the home button and the screen comes up to turn on Bluetooth, wifi, etc. and you can also add other apps to it so you don't have to scroll through pages. just a thought. you can change up the phone with themes and what not. well it keeps me satisfied and this coming from a few blackberrys, and a Samsung fascinate...no regrets with the iPhone.

By all means Android has some awesome features!
- Hardware choices
- Google maps navigation
- App market that coming even with Apples and gives you 15 min to try out an app or get a refund
- Amazon Wireless gives INSANE discounts (Droid prime already FREE w/ contract a mere month after release)
- Xda (great hacking community)
- Replaceable/Spare batteries available

Main reason I keep with iPhone though is the following:
- Best customer service w/ a simple trip to the Apple store
- Maintain high value on craigslist for resale
- Best battery life on a single charge in the business
- Know for sure that your phone will be top dog for a full year

It's up to you really, can't go wrong either way :)

I did have high expectations of the next iPhone, but thats not the only reason I'm thinking. I wanted a bigger screen, as I do a lot of browsing on my iPhone 4. Siri I suppose until you've tried, but I've used current voice control about 4 times in total.

I've got iOS5 on now, it looks good, but still disappointed with the pull down. Don't care about stocks at all, do care about some quick settings, BT, WiFi, GPS etc, why can't we have these on instead? or an option?

Seen a HTC Sensation in flesh for 1st time today. its not thinner than iPhone 4, but feels it as the construction on outside is more like 3GS, was a little bigger than iPhone 4, but not as much as thought, and as I sy the screen looked huge compared to iPhone 4.

mmmm

I have used from Symbian miss (Funky SX1) to win2003 to 6.1 (loved that HTC Universal), first 3 iphones, Google Nexus, HP veer, then Pre 3 and soon owner of the 4s.
End of the day, you only live once, you will love the customisation of android.
No phones are perfect and I might start to check out wmp7.5 when Nokia our out.
It will be good to try something else for a year and maybe come back once the iphone 5 is out.

Top features on Android you will probaly Love:

Notifications
Background downloading for all apps
More cross app talking(For instance any twitter app can talk to any photo app for uploading)
Google Maps Navigation, for a free map programs its second-to-none
Ability to download any app, document, movie, music or whatever from anywhere onto your phone
Email, with gmail you have a solution that bests iOS
Customization, it can be as simple as a new keyboard or as big as a new launcher... whatever floats your boat
File System

Things you will miss leaving iOS
Polish of apps
the tight ecosystem, I mean android has one.. it is just slightly harder to buy into it
The amount of apps and dev support
