Fantastic post. Thanks for the perspective!

I haven't downsized, but my wife has a 6 so I do have some opinions.

When I first compared the 6 and the 6 plus, the plus was the "no brainer" option for me. Part of that was because I didn't feel the 6 was really a large enough size increase.

After having used my wife's phone, the 6 is definitely more usable with one hand; I am not generally a one handed user, but I have tried the 6 since so many people make such a big deal about it and I can do everything one handed on that device, even without reach ability.

Battery life is improved from here 5S. I know this because there were days when she was calling me from work letting me know her phone died (she works late and about a 30-40 minute drive so I will sometimes check in on her if she is later than normal, or to see if she is on her way yet with find my iphone). Her 6 has yet to die and is always above 20% at the end of the day.

I will say that the screen is just "nicer" on the plus. I am not going to go into specs or anything, it just looks nicer on virtually all content. She even commented on that one day playing with my phone, but said the plus would just be too larger for her everyday use, so the sacrifice is worth it.

As far as performance, I find her device to run things smoother. Not everything, but there are some quirks with the 6 plus that I have seen that I can replicate very easily (lag, frame rate drops, whatever) that I haven;t come across on the 6 at all. That said, I have not used the 6 nearly as much as the plus, but she states she hasn't noticed issues; I fully admit that different people are going to have different sensitivities to these sorts of things.

Overall, if I would trade in my plus for a 6 I don't think I would be overly heartbroken, but I would miss it. My usage tend to be very little single handed use (typing). I read a lot of news, stream music, browse the web, watch a movie here and there in bed. I think all of those things are just better on the plus because a bigger screen just makes those activities more enjoyable. As mentioned though, the 6 wins the one handed use argument hands down in virtually every scenario for me.

I downsized from the 6+ to a 6. No regrets because I just didn't like the size of the plus. I get from a full day to longer but I'm not a heavy user. My battery usage shows Usage 5 hours 55 mins with Standby at 3 days 5 hours. I have 31% battery left. On a heavy day I only have to charge it when I go to bed. I'm glad I switched. Portability was just more important to me overall.

I downsized from a 6+ to a 6 and although I would have never guessed I would I am starting to have some regret.

The first week with the 6+ was great! I had a fun, new, large screened phone which was a nice change of pace from my iPhone 5. Nice screen real estate and exceptional functionality. Unfortunately, along with the fun came some annoyance. I did not like how the 6+ felt in my front jeans pocket and most of the time when I took it out to use it, it just felt awkward. None of the apps I use are optimized to take advantage of the extra screen real estate anyway. So I started feeling like I should just return it and get a nice, "regular sized" iPhone.

I returned the 6+ and had a 6 sent to me. My first reaction was, yea, this feels right. This feels like something I will be comfortable with. It's an upgrade from my iPhone 5, right? Well after only a single full day I am wondering if I maybe made a mistake. The 6 is a great phone, I'm not saying it isn't. I can't think of the exact right term just now other than to say I don't "lust for it". I'm not excited about it the way I was about the 6+.

At this point I could keep the 6 and probably be perfectly happy in time. Maybe I will. But, on the other hand, that's a lot of money to spend on something I'm not totally jazzed about. I'm entertaining the idea of just going back to my 5 for now waiting for the 6s or possibly going back to the 6+ once I've had some time to think.

I know 2 people who have gone from the 6+ to the 6 due to the size being an issue. The Plus was never a consideration for me because I knew for my needs it wouldn't be practical. I chatted to a lad over Christmas who works in the Apple Store in Covent Garden, London and he said in his experience they have more enquires about swapping from the 6+ to the 6 as people buy blind and find portability becomes a nuisance. It is still a stunning phone and always best to try before you buy.

I have the 6 from launch and have to say the battery life is excellent. From 5.45am until I put it on charge at 10pm I would say I have no issues with excessive battery life. I am a moderate user but I do stream a hour or two's worth of Spotify music each day and usually have around 50% battery left at the end of the day. That is excellent IMO.

Unless you are regularly away from a charger, for example 3 days or so without charging, the battery life of both of these devices shouldn't be a concern. If you are charging every night it is not even worth worrying about. If you are a power user there are battery saving measures you can take and both should last a full day.

I upgraded from 5S to 6 plus for the size. Otherwise, the new 6 series in general was sufficiently uncompelling to make a switch.

I was hesitating to downsize to an iPhone 6 too. After I read this thread I think I should sell it and buy an iPhone 6.

For me, I feel the Plus is perfect, except when I carry. It cannot fit to my pocket.

I'm thinking if I should buy it from Thailand or UK (I am studying in UK).

In Thailand, it is 50 pounds chapter. Still thinking about it.

I owned and used both from the day they came out but just this weekend returned the 6+ because of it size. While the screen size is great the size is way too much of a penalty and I am now very happy with the 6.

The 6 is what I had hoped the 5/5S would be.

Each has to make up their own minds or buy both.

This is exactly what I did last week. I had the plus thinking I'd enjoy the size...which I did for 2 months. Traded it for a 6 and $100 on their end and NOW I'm happy. Plus was too big for it to feel portable and reliable. I'd always feel I would drop it and felt it was unnecessarily big all the time. One thing it was better at: trips. I didn't have to bring my iPad or anything else. Besides lying down and watching something, nothing else was good.

Good: portability, feel like a reliable device for variety of uses, less attention going into pocket where the phone would go, less 'bendy', etc etc

Bad: battery took a hit big time, when i leave for work and come back and check the battery its at 80 or 75. the 6 is at 65.

hope this helps.

Over the holiday season I decided to buy a 6 plus for the heck of it to take advantage of the longer return period. I already owned a 6 and wanted to see what I was missing. A friend of mine also owned a 6 plus and I admit I felt a little jealous when he pulled his out so I took the plunge. I was going out of town for a week and figured it would be the perfect time to put it to the test! At first it was alarming at how large it was and how awkward a form factor. It was definitely not a one handed phone. Also I realized in clutch situations it was rather cumbersome. Going through airport security, grabbing my luggage, whenever I wanted to take a quick photo, texting someone quickly. But on the other hand it was great to get attention when I was using it. Watching videos, surfing the web and reading. But then that was one of the things that bothered me too. I couldn't do anything without people seeing everything I was doing on my phone! When I texted a friend or read an email or watched a video. Everyone was looking at what I was doing. I'm a rather to myself person and didn't like that very much.

After my return I realized that it just wasn't for me. I thought portability was more important. Also I couldn't justify the extra cost of $200 (unlocked version) more for a larger screen just wasn't worth it. I mean they are the same phone. The iPhone 6 has a great battery (relative to the phone. Of course the 6 plus is going to have better as it is a larger phone), OIS (software based) and a great screen. If you can honestly tell with your eyes the difference between the 6 and 6 plus screen then your really have great eyesight!

The last story I have is when I returned my 6 plus the Apple employee chuckled and said "Too big huh?" I said "How did you know?" He then mentioned that after Christmas a lot of people were returning the 6 plus in exchange for a 6 and that that was he was seeing it returned the most.

I downsized to a 6 from a Plus a few weeks ago, Trouble is, I had five of them and they all had dark yellowy smudges at the top and especially near the battery indicator. They had yellowish tints on the left hand side, too.

Went back to a Plus with a perfectly uniform screen. The portability of the 6 was great but the screens were appalling.

Quick question. How were you able to trade it back after 2 months? Was this with apple or a carrier?

I went from a 5 to a 6+. I had the 6+ for 5 days and I only made it that long because I was determined to get used to the 6+. My wife got a 6 and I started checking it out and I still kept thinking I will adapt to the size of the 6+. I wear carpenter jeans and I put my phone in the side pocket on middle of the right leg. The final decision make was when I came back to work and it doesn't fit (without substantial force) in the side pocket of my work jeans, it barley fit in my "everyday" jeans. Last night I turned in my 6+ and got a 6 and have been much happier. I really loved the size of my 5 and if I cannot get used to the 6 before the return period ends I may just get a 5S.

The battery life is better with the 6+ and the screen is really nice, however my 5 made it through the day just fine for my use which I would describe as moderate, also I still think the screen on the 5 looks great, so the two biggest reasons to keep the 6+ just didn't matter to me at the end of the day.

I had a similar experience when exchanging my Plus as well. If I remember correctly, my Apple guy said exactly the same thing, and that lots of people had been doing exchanges he said he had just finished doing a couple others. He said he did it himself too. He started with a Plus, but quickly realized that one hand usage was a necessity.

Whoa that is really weird as the Apple Employee who did my return ALSO said that he purchased a 6+ first and then realized it was too big so he went down to a regular 6.

Very strange. Had 6 since it came out. Last week after playing with my brothers plus i made the switch. Reading lots of thread from people who did switch from 6 to plus. And now after have the plus since saturday i read the opposit. Until now i'm loving the plus. For me carrying around is no problem.

Probably for the same reasons you had enough time with your 6 to know it wasn't for you. Having only had the 6+ for a few days you'll probably need some time to figure out if it fits your needs. I could definitely get by carrying the 6+, but as one poster stated its somewhat a "thorn" and I'm always reminded it's in my pocket. I'm in the process of figuring out if pocketability trumps screen/battery of the 6+.

Good luck hope the 6+ works for you.

Switched from 5S to 6+ then switched to 6 couldn't be happier. The 6+ is unwieldy huge. I think personally the screen looks 100% better on the 6. Colors are better and it looks clearer brighter and whiter, no yellowing or dead or stuck pixels. The build quality on the 6 is far superior to the plus I had. The 6 is the first iPhone I have owned that has been manufactured by Pegatron rather than Foxconn and the build quality is perfection. Absolute perfection. Home button solid, volume buttons solid, no rattles, power button solid. Seemless sides, vibrate is strong but quitet. Volume loud and clear speaker and earpiece.

You’ll see either 6 or 6 plus favored, with much having to do with factors beyond the phone. A person’s size, the climate and clothing worn, a preference or requirement for one-handed use, whether they like carrying bags or not, etc and so forth.

Just picked up a 6+ yesterday after using a 6 since launch day. So now I have both and will decide whether or not to keep the plus or sell my 6. I'm really leaning toward keeping both but if I find myself not using the 6 anymore, I don't know.

So far I think I like the plus over the 6 (one day I know) but I have had the 6 for 3 months now and every iPhone before it so I'm very familiar with the sizes. I think I prefer the larger screen. You could have never told me that a few months ago. They both have their advantages. I wear a suit most days for work so I can keep it in my jacket pocket for the most part.

I think that when you are going to wear just jeans and t-shirt, you'll prefer the 6's size....

That's a interesting point you bring up. The Apple employee I worked with also said a lot of people aren't realizing that once the weather changes they may regret their choice. When you are out in shorts, t-shirt or jeans the 6+ will not be that feasible.

I got an iPhone 6 Plus on release day, coming from a 5s was not digging it. Went ahead and changed over to the 6 in just a few days. I ended up switching back to the 6 Plus and kept it for awhile. Figured since the first time I never gave it a chance, but today swapped again (uncle and myself swap devices) and will be keeping the iPhone 6.

Size is really convenient for me, cannot beat it. iPhone 6 Plus is a power house, battery is fantastic but that's the only reason why I was justifying it.

I realized that with my Lumia 1520 during the past summer

For me a chief motivator for 6 plus is for impromptu one-on-one presentations showing off pics of my custom products. I never bought an iPad and rock a MacBook Air constantly, so the 6 plus could be just the ticket. I shoot images with a wide aspect ratio to take advantage of the 6 plus screen.
