I really don't believe the Think Secret rumor. They wouldn't come out with the iPhone and then back off on the tech! That's not Apple!

What if Think Secret and 9to5mac had the wrong product shrunk????
What if they shrunk the vertical edges of the iPhone - remove the phone hearing piece and the single button black parts... Take that form factor and create new iPod. 3.5 touchscreen all the way - it might be a little thicker (i doubt it) but heavier due to the HD. That would be my dream! :)

I for one will not get a new ipod until its touch screen.

i would love an iphone without the phone because im not paying 60 bucks a month nor paying 600 bucks nor paying 200$ to switch from alltel. I know it wont have safari or wifi but that would be sweet.

What?

The Archos units above don't have a touchscreen. They have regular buttons that are to the right. CNET did a video review of the 604 and they didn't like it...

The 704 has a touchscreen and that's $549...

There is two models the 604/605 base that goes up to 160 in hd space and the 604/605 wifi model which has both touch screen and buttons.

480x320 multitouch WiFi iPod! Announced together with wireless iTunes store on August 7th!

Wohooo!

I see, at $399.

So my point all along. Someone who wants to get a 30Gig hard drive based mp3 player. The choices will be:

Zune, $249
New touchscreen iPod: $349.

Which one will win out?

I say the 6G should stick with the tried and true click wheel for returning customers.

New customers or ones that want to upgrade to a wide touchscreen true Video iPod can pay the premium $399.

Do you think Apple will pull another "Sony PS3"?

But you're forgetting one fact; no one wants a Zune. Seriously, how many people have you seen with a Zune? The iPod is too large a part of popular culture for many people to actually care about price.

The clickwheel isn't going to die out if the fullsize iPod has a touchscreen. I don't see the nano gaining a touchscreen any time soon, hence, I'd welcome a touch redesign.

Nobody even know what a Zune is! People will go to the iPod becacuse it's the brand they know and everyone wants as 'the cool' tech... Adding a touchscreen and making it more expensive wouldn't change that because $350 is still reasonable to many.

Actually, in today's economy it is. Apple is getting snobbish if it thinks it can up the price of an iPod from $249 to $349.

Sony did that with the PS3, $599 for a game console - look where it's got them.

BTW, I've seen Zunes go for $199 discounted...

I don't think Apple can get away with a $349 30Gig touchscreen iPod.

Sony's PS2 to PS3 upped the price $300, I don't get why people consider bumping up the price to $350 from $250 (the 250 price was a lowering Apple did because the 5th gen offers little that is actually new and makes it more competitive) a repeat of the Sony PS3 fiasco. Furthermore, touchscreen functionality offers a new level of use altogether.

I can't imagine Apple putting a touchscreen in their next iPod. It would steal too much thunder from the iPhone, which they are banking so heavily on.

If they don't put a touchscreen on the next iPod, I'll just keep my 5.5g until they do make a fullscreen, touchscreen iPod.

Why couldn't it be the other way around? Why should the iPhone steal thunder from the well-established iPod brand?

Wirelessly posted (LGE-VX9900/1.0 UP.Browser/6.2.3.2 (GUI) MMP/2.0)

ive been rooting for a touchscreen ipod, but it seems like that isnt going to happen. I think apple thinks it will jeopradize iphone sales. Its been a long wait, the 6G better be cool.

I still discount the rumors of a replacement for the 5.5G video iPod coming August 7, 2007.

I still think Apple will unveil a true full-screen iPod with touchscreen controls in the same exact size as the current 5.5G 80 GB iPod (this to maintain compatibility with current third-party iPod docks). It will have an 8:5 aspect ratio display, touchscreen controls in selectable iPhone and Click Wheel modes, and your choice of either 60 or 100 GB hard drive storage. It will NOT have WiFi capability, but Bluetooth could be possible for things like wireless headphones and sending media data to car stereos that accept Bluetooth data.

Expected release date: mid-September 2007, almost exactly one year after the last iPod hardware "refresh."

Not having WiFi would be pretty disappointing for those of us who wont see the iphone this year.

Not to sound like a total ass, but most of these posts in this thread are 'Apple won't give me what I want, so I'm not buying a new iPod! What a bad idea for Apple!'

Seriously. just because it doesn't have touchscreen doesn't mean it's a bad product.

Not a bad product but not a PDA, not a future iTV/iTunes remote, not an internet browser tablet...

If they dont release a touchscreen then I hope to see some significant price reductions and some new features like BT headphones etc

I don't think that's the issue. People are stating what they would like in an iPod. For example, myself, I would like a multi-touch Internet communicater, music/video player, all in one with Wi-Fi! And lots of storage.

I vote with my wallet. If Apple comes out with an iPhoneless iPod they get my money. If not, I either look at alternative or I just don't buy!

I think many of us hope that Apple reads these sites and gets the message/ideas that we expouse here.

Im looking for some really insane inovation from SJ, not another 5.5G minor revision.

If I buy it will be my first iPod and Yes I want ALL these features. Anything less, I simply don't buy.

After getting my first iMAC almost 2 years ago, I fell in love with Apple products and now IM looking for the same greatness in a new widescreen iPod!--)) :)

im really hoping they come out soon.
what i would like in the next iPod aside from basic stuff...is a touchscreen and wifi with an internet browser. i would buy the instant it came out if it has these two things! im doubting though, i dont think they will put the internet browser in one. hope its not another "minor" revision. come on aug. 7th. hopefully thats when they come out!

Look at it this way Apple steals it's own thunder and people buy another Apple product? Not really a loss for Apple, not to mention all of us who simple CAN'T get AT&T or the ones that refuse to switch.

If you don't want all the fancy features of a full iPod and the price then go get a nano. Unless Apple decides to go with the old crazy 3 iPod tier (mini, iPod, photo), I highly doubt Apple will release a **** iPod.
If you just want to simply listen to music go get a nano, and chances are the storage on those will double or they will get the crappy interface from the video.

DO expect the price to go up to at least $300 for the bottom line though, as it will be an amazing piece of hardware and they don't want it to overlap with the nano's pricing.

As said above the iPod is on sale this week at best buy ($10 and $15 off), which NEVER happens. At most they will throw in a free case or something, never drop the price on the iPod. So that is pointing towards new ones coming soon.

But hey what do I know? You make up your own mind and we will wait for Apple to amaze with a new product that we never thought we needed until they made it.

if thats all that apple did to make the ipod metter i think i will just stick with my 5.5G ipod becuase the extra sopace bettween the scrren and the clickwhhel and the click wheel and the bottom of the ipod was never an issue for me and i think i can deal with out the new OS that apple made for it i was thinking of a major upgrade like tuchscreen or something amazing along those lines:cool:
