why then They called iPad 3S and said that is just upgrade and new generation comes once a year? I really think that period for "new" generation is half year now

It's called "iPad"

As long as they keep updating iOS on each eligible device, I'm ok.
Currently using iPad 2, still satisfied. iOS running fast and reliable.

I'm afraid to update the iOS and the apps. Won't the current iOS version and app versions be made for machines with faster hardware. In turn, wouldn't that make it feel like your iPad is slowing down because the software is made for faster hardware? Or is there a specific iPad 2 version of the software.. hmm...

People used to complain that Apple products were updated so infrequently as compared to PCs, now they get flack for updating too quickly, ha.

If this is true I just hope the iPad mini with retina isn't far behind.

People just like complaining. That'll never change. It's a way of communicating without putting much effort into the content!

And i share your hope re. the mini. I think it might even happen, at least if the 9.7" update comes along too. They'll have had six months of big sales with the original, which they could then drop in price c.f. the currently-available iPad2. It'll be like the iPad2 to iPad3 transition: no improvement in 'performance' to speak of, just the upgraded display. And then come October, another major speed bump...

mini $279
mini retina $329
ipad2 $399
iPad '"5" $499

thats my guess anyway. But maybe neither of these updates will happen. However, it seems like updates arent as predictable as they used to be, and you can be sure that whatever happens, Apple will have a lineup of products that is perfectly priced to generate maximum $£$£$ for the company.

Well iOS 6 is running on iPad 2 faster then iOS 5 did, so still don't see a problem.
Of course in the future it *will* be obsolete, but my point is, that it wont happen anytime soon.

See other example : iPhone 3GS, with iOS 6 it's faster then it was with iOS 5.
and it's HW from 2009(!).

The reason is very simple. That is, Android is becoming better and better and better than iOS. This is an undeniable reality.

The fact is that I need reliable, fast and smooth devices with perfect build quality, tied up under one ecosystem. Android is not an option for me, and that is another undeniable reality.

Sweet. I knew the iPad 4 was a dumb update from the moment they announced it, that's why I didn't upgrade from my iPad 3. Why would I upgrade to exactly the same device? I purposely waited for the fifth gen, knowing it would be thinner and lighter and similar in appearance to the iPad mini. People here need to stop obsessing about having the latest model. It wouldn't kill you guys to skip a generation or 2 before upgrading. As long as you aren't missing any major new features. This whole iPad 4 thing reminds me of the iPhone 4S, the worst upgrade in iPhone history. I skipped it and waited for the 5, best decision ever. And I jailbroke it and got Siri anyway.

I don't care about thickness as much as Apple does, but lighter would be welcomed. I like my iPad 4, it's only drawback is weight if it's being used for a long time.

One things for sure, it pays to watch the news closely when it comes to upcoming new models. It seems that Apple has taken the threat Android poses seriously. With the Galaxy S 4 to be released in Q1, and a plethora of other new Android based devices along with it, Apples got to push hard to keep up.

I know I'm eager to upgrade from my iPhone 5 to Apples next model. History proves that the 5S is bound to be a big improvement. Perhaps it won't be quite as flimsy, a stronger bend resistant iPhone would be very nice. Perhaps they'll improve quality control while they're at it.

Why is the simplest question to ask. The 4th Gen iPad got the A6X right? Still a hot and great processor running on an OS that is very tight and light weight from a resource standpoint.

This sounds like a rumor created by the competition to try and stop prospective buyers from committing.

Probably less than one hundredth of one percent of Apple buyers, frequent MacRumors.

Christ, this is so not complicated.

iPad 4 was due to supply changes and essentially avoided them carrying dual inventory on certain pieces that were common to iPhone 5, etc. It just happened to be an interim upgrade with improvements but not really a regular cycle one.

iPad 5 will be the normal cycle upgrade. They aren't going to do this regularly more than a year, and they most likely will keep the iPad early in the year since the end of year releases were too packed last year.

Is the correct answer

Wait a minute...does the new version have Retina?

Because the total Apple move would be a to release a thinner lighter update without Retina in March. People will fawn all over here saying how the screen is 'OK" and Retina isn't that big of a deal.

Then Apple could release a Retina Mini and new thinner Retina in fall of 13 and spring of 14.

Cha-ching!!!!

Once Apple realized they could sell countless Mini's without Retina...they have to consider the 3 part cash grab of a light/thin non-Retina followed by Retina versions....

I for one welcome our new 6-month cycle overlords.

Given the ever rising competition, wouldn't hurt that Apple is changing gears.

Im still using the iP2 and Im still happy with it . they almost sucked me in with the 3 but i resisted . ill upgrade to iP12 in early 2014

It's nearly 6 months, time to milk more money from the herd.

I don't get that thinking at all.

1. Every company updates their product line.

2. People don't have to buy the latest model every time a new model is released.

That does it! I'm sick and tired of buying electronics only to have them outdated in no time. At first, I thought it was just my MacBook Pro, but then it was my iPhone and iPad. Then I dug deeper only to find out my TV, surround sound system, microwave, refrigerator, BluRay player, and more are all outdated too! Even my 2010 car no longer has all the latest gadgets!

You'd think companies would just come out with something and let it be for a while so we can enjoy more than just a few months of comfort in knowing we have the latest technology money can buy.

:p

This race to the smallest and thinnest is OK, but only if the battery lasts longer and the processing power gets better.
In the past Apple products where always getting the best and newest hardware out there, plus real useful new software features that make them better than anything else out there.
They need to speed up the release cycle, it seems that with the App Store they are now relying only on the 3rd party developers to create great software, it is good to have that capabilities, but seriously: when will Apple ante up their software and online sevices?

As I said in another thread too:

Ipad 3/4 is noticeably heavier. It's being embarrassed by thinner and lighter tablets including Mini and Ipad 2 and Kindle. Ipad 3/4 is a heavy lump and Apple should be working on a thinner tablet.

Oh yeah, I'm embarrassed to show my iPad 4 off...oh the shame...of having the fastest tablet out with the best looking screen that's 1/8 of an ounce heavier than an iPad 2 (had one of those as well). Life must be so hard for you with what Apple puts you through.

This new accelerated release cycle is so Apple can stay ahead of the game. Not so you can always have the latest and the greatest. 'course if you do feel the need to throw money at Apple every six months, they won't complain.

You don't have to update every generation. This is actually great because by the time I upgrade, the iPad would have gone thru a few iterations instead of just one.

Does Johny Ive have something to do with this??
If he does, then a decent gentleman becomes a gold rusher, at least in my mind

CEO Cook: "What? You only pay once every year? Let's make it twice."

I love Apple stuff as much as the next guy, but no one is forcing anyone to buy anything..keep your damn ipad for 2 or 3 generations and when it no longer does what you want, upgrade..just because Apple is refreshing every 6 months doesn't mean you have to. I have an ipad 2 and don't plan to upgrade until a 5th gen is out.

Hope this isn't true, I just dropped $880 for an iPad 4 64GB Cellular today, to replace my iPad 2.

I don't think they'll release is March though, probably later.
