Hope this isn't true, I just dropped $880 for an iPad 4 64GB Cellular today, to replace my iPad 2.

As someone who just spent $600 on the 32GB model a week ago, I feel that the next model can't come quick enough! The current model is great, but I will upgrade on day one. I'm looking for something lighter. Also, the iPhone has spoiled me with its bonded LCD. On the iPad, I feel as though my fingers are floating above the objects I touch. The headphone jack being on the bottom edge as with the other devices would also be welcome.

My iPad 2 is still working great. I will just have to upgrade every 4-6 gens instead of 2-3. :(

Why are people getting so worked up about this ?

Apple can release new hardware whenever they want to, just because the iPad you have isn't the latest and greatest doesn't mean it is somehow obsolete and doesn't work anymore.

I still have the iPad 2 and it works perfectly fine, will I upgrade to this new one ? Maybe.

Because the current generation is the entitlement generation.

No patience to wait for anything. Everything they have must be the latest and greatest.

Never learned to cope with disappointment and frustration and will go postal if anybody dares not to meet their unrealistic expectations of their imagined perfect world.

We want it all and we want it now!

Happy holidays!

Yep!

People used to complain that Apple products were updated so infrequently as compared to PCs, now they get flack for updating too quickly, ha.

If this is true I just hope the iPad mini with retina isn't far behind.

And, perhaps shockingly to most people, it is possible not to buy every new Apple product.

In fact, it's completely acceptable to skip a generation or two between upgrades. I know that takes some self control, but I bet most people can do it.

And for those people with enough money to buy every new generation of every new product, thank you! You're making it worth Apple's time to improve their products often, and that's good for all of us.

I have the iPad 2. Still haven't seen any huge feature for me to get any new version. The one that came out in October is basically an iPad 3s. It's same just lightinging better front camera.

It's just the industry's way

Users of older iOS and MacOS devices, are now starting to feel the pain of Apple's platforms fragmentation. Experiencing Apps puchase attempts that instead result in a notice, the app is not compatible with their generation of device. Apple now has to try to retain those customers. In many cases I see my associates, friends and family decide to try a different platform. Often they are happy. They still use the old Apple device, but they don't buy apps or content for those any more.
I look forward to Apple's responses and attempts to stay relevant. They've been successful in the past, and I'd like to see them remain successful in making products I and millions of others will purchase and enjoy.

If apple is able to make major update every year and some refreshes in between, why should I get upset? I will wait till upgrade makes worth it for me and the price is right.

My iPad 2 does absolutely everything I need to it.

I don't need to upgrade everytime a new device comes out. I can't afford it for a start.....but would I like to if money were no object?...the vain part of me says yes, but then common sense kicks in

Apple keeps making it harder and more expensive for hipsters to be hipsters. I feel bad for them.

And a much better processor. Kind of the point when it has to push all those pixels around, I would have thought.

for all those who bought new devices and complaining. Just remember, its an Apple product which means it has an extremely high resale value. If you care about having the latest and greatest, sell it 2 weeks before the release, which we will know about because Apple leaks are unavoidable with their huge supply chain

For those of you that are upset with the frequency of new versions of Apple products, you seriously need to get a life. If the item you currently owns still works for you, what difference does it make if there's a newer version out sooner?

It sounds to me like a lot of you are complaining because you simply can't afford to keep up. Are you also complaining because you don't have a new Porsche or a new BMW?

Grow up

If it does come out in march it could just follow the naming system of the iPhone. Could be called iPad 4s (s could stand for slim maybe?)

It´s honestly going to fast! I have the "new ipad", which is 9 months old and all ready outdated. But I feel in no way I need to get the latest yet. how about shifting some focus to the mac pro and perhaps some updated peripherals for macs...like a new even cooler keyboard, bigger & faster time capsule, a better magic mouse that you can click both left and right mousebutton at the same time...would be kind of nice! But, oh I forgot, that stuff don´t draw any revenue, lets update the ipad 20 times first.

how about you talk to Cook about your issues?

This would be great news. Keep up the fast updates! If people feel the necessity to get every iteration that's their problem.

People have no intrinsic "right" to own every version of a device, and yearly updates risk holding everyone back.

Too soon!

There comes a point when too many product refreshes will just piss off buyers. I think we are getting close to that point. :(
