The third-generation Apple TV, last made available in 2013, is slowly losing support from third-party app developers. YouTube recently announced that the YouTube channel will disappear in March, and now the CBS All Access channel is also being removed.

Those who have a third-generation Apple TV are seeing a popup when logging into the CBS All Access app that says CBS All Access will no longer be available starting in March.

The timing coincides with an upcoming shift that will see CBS All Access rebranding as Paramount+. ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish said in September that CBS All Access was being rebranded because the Paramount brand is more recognizable. The rebrand will be accompanied by original content designed to lure new subscribers.

The new Paramount+ app will not be available on the second and third-generation Apple TV models, but it will be watchable on the fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models, the iPhone, and the iPad.

Though there will be no app on the third-generation Apple TV, Paramount+ content will be able to be streamed from an iOS device to a third-generation Apple TV.

AirPlay will also be the only way to watch YouTube content on the third-generation Apple TV starting in March.

Third-generation Apple TV users who are looking to upgrade to a newer model may want to hold off for the time being as Apple is rumored to be introducing a new Apple TV set-top box at some point this year. The fifth-generation Apple TV, which is the current newest version, was released in 2017.

Have ViacomCBS said anything about what's happening to the CBS All Access Apple TV Channel? Will that transition into a Paramount+ Apple TV Channel on March 4th as well?

The cynic in me now understands why Apple has not bothered to lower the price of the 4th Generation AppleTV or AppleTV 4K - they're hoping 2nd/3rd gen users buy new models as their content gets terminated by the content owners.

I presume it will just become the Paramount+ Channel with a new logo.

I subscribe to Showtime and CBS for $10. I hope this price is still available when they switch over.

I have heard nothing about a price increase as part of the branding change so the existing bundle price should remain the same.

We will see. HBO quickly bailed on Apple TV Channels because they didn't want to pay 30% to be featured on the TV app when everyone already knows who they are. Remains to be seen how CBS will choose to go forward.

From what I have read, the CBS All Access streaming will be rebranded as Paramount+, so yes the Apple TV channel for CBS All Access will be replaced by Paramount+ on or shortly after March 4 assuming Paramount maintains its relationship with Apple.

Come on Apple release the kraken! The next Apple TV is way overdue and given the recent improvements with Apple Silicone it should be a amazing product if you listen to all the suggestions in these forums.

they've been rumored to introduce a new device for the last three years. Not holding my breath.

As far as this one? Well, they might lose 3 of the 11 people who actually subscribe to CBS's streaming service.

pretty sure I’ve had my 4K for 3 years now so a refresh does seem in order. Then I can move the 4K upstairs and have the shiny new one in the front room. I am finding on some apps the 4K micro stutters now.

Apple just recently quietly discontinued the bundle (at least for new/re-subscribers) so I'm not too hopeful it will remain.

Pretty good run for a single core A5 based device. I did read somewhere that you could use an old one to add airplay speakers to your tv. For the used price of $30, maybe it is worth it. I can't believe anyone would make a smart tv without airplay support, or worse, the Samsung we have only supports Samsung bluetooth speakers - pathetic

Maybe it’s time to try chrome or roku.
