The more things dropping out, the more likely a 6th Gen Apple TV should be released, surely...
If they come out with new TVs, I wonder if they'll include a remote. With their current remote, they might as well not bother, but maybe they've learned about the importance of physical keys, given the function key debacle. Plus, those are probably way cheaper to make

It’s expected a lot of streaming apps will abandon 3rd generation Apple TV’s sold 2012-2013, it uses a very old version of iOS.
True. Good news is you can replace them with a Roku now and get what most of us need for a very reasonable price with a regular remote that's not a torture-test to use. Not a perfect solution, but certainly a far better solution for many than spending the vast quantities of $$$ Apple wants for the Apple TV 4K. Airplay to the Rokus (Roki? Roku? Rokeius?) I've tested so far (4K Sticks) has been fine.

But doesn’t the notice state that Paramount+ will be available on Apple TV after March 4?
I’m sure it will be as a stand-alone app. Which is what HBO Max did.

I’ve yet to see any commitments towards/against them introducing Paramount+ as a channel.

I’m very tired of each network having their own app. It’s cluttered, the apps suck (HBO Max, Peacock), and the billing is fragmented.

pretty sure I’ve had my 4K for 3 years now so a refresh does seem in order. Then I can move the 4K upstairs and have the shiny new one in the front room. I am finding on some apps the 4K micro stutters now.
You should consider moving the TV upstairs too and getting a new one as well, the one upstairs is too small and old.

Piling on us 3rd gens. We’ll have of the services stopped working.
I’m concerned if I buy a used 4th gen they will nix me again this year.
Maybe it’s time to try chrome or roku.
I really like my Roku TV, plus it has a great remote with physical buttons. It doesn't play games well though (if at all, I haven't really tried), but it's perfect for what it needs to do, searches all channels, and is really inexpensive if not already integrated.

My Apple TV has a much nicer interface, and it's not ad laden like the roku, but it's a lot more expensive. It tends to get democracy now episodes much more quickly, so that's really all I use it for now. I've created a shortcut to go right to the channel with my phone. It's fun--I just say, "Hey Siri, turn on Democracy Now," and it turns my TV on, switches to the Apple TV and goes to the channel. Almost worth $150, lol

I have had all generations from the second to the 4K. Every time an article refers to a generation number I have to look up which generation is which. Of course I only do that if the item is significant.

The 3rd gen apple tv streamed videos from my 4th gen iTouch very efficiently.
i might get a replacement in the future.

I find this utterly unacceptable and am glad I never bought any Apple TV to begin with.
You might be in the wrong place. You might also be very disappointed that iPhone 6s support is going away soon too.

Ya know, I never thought I'd read a sentence like that, and well ... here it is!

I get it - I sound like a bit of a jerk here, even though I'm totally joking (except for maybe the first quote, but I digress). Deprecation is normal in tech. If people are angry that their early 2010 device isn't being supported some 10 years later, I just hate to tell you that's simply the nature of the beast nowadays. Different equipment, different platforms, and just way harder to code for - with quality. I'd be ticked if I was told to get some old 2010 equipment to work like a newer device with comparable quality. That's just an instant lose, depending on the situation.

they've been rumored to introduce a new device for the last three years. Not holding my breath.

As far as this one? Well, they might lose 3 of the 11 people who actually subscribe to CBS's streaming service.
The CBS streaming service is actually a big deal for some people who don't have cable. You're able to get your local CBS channel live. This is great for watching the local news/weather in the morning before work.

Their TV commercials are some of the very best on TV right now !

I do NOT currently own an Apple TV, but am looking forward to the Next Gen one expected out later this year, per the Rumors.

I subscribe to Showtime and CBS for $10. I hope this price is still available when they switch over.

I would think that even if there was a price change, you'd be "grandfathered" into the Paramount/Showtime bundle for $10. But we'll find out on 3/4.

The 4th generation TV's still fully supported and on the latest software - Apple won't be abandoning it anytime soon, and if they do, you'll probably still get a solid five years out of it (based on the time between now and third gen being discontinued). They're great devices.

The cynic in me now understands why Apple has not bothered to lower the price of the 4th Generation AppleTV or AppleTV 4K - they're hoping 2nd/3rd gen users buy new models as their content gets terminated by the content owners.

I presume it will just become the Paramount+ Channel with a new logo.

I have heard nothing about a price increase as part of the branding change so the existing bundle price should remain the same.

I don’t have any idea why someone would buy an Apple TV over a $30 Roku. Even AirPlay is no longer a differentiator.

It's almost 10 years old. Apple should have killed this years ago. You have ancient hardware. Move on.

the bundle is not longer offered, as in disappeared completely without explanation

Paramount is more recognizable than CBS???
Guessing the rebranding has a lot to do with scrapping any / all previous licensing arrangements that would have fallen under or been related to CBS All Access. Similar to NBC moving to PeacockTV.

A generally good question about Apple's pricing strategy - why not lower prices of older devices.

Anyway, I'm guessing more people will say "not upgrading to Paramount" than "oh, now's the time to upgrade from my 2013 AppleTV to a 2017 model"
