So what if it is? Consumers don’t care about that. With the A15, that’s at least five years of iOS updates from a compact iPhone priced at $429 with improved battery life. I’m pretty sure that’s the selling point here.
Not to mention consumers might even get it cheaper thru a prepaid carrier like Cricket or Metro PCS.

Hopefully they'll use the mini design in the next iteration and just use the ipad air style touchID to save cost vs face ID. I'd def buy that for around the $400 mark when I'm ready to upgrade from the XR that's still doing well after 3.5 years.

Can someone exaplain me; for iPhone SE3 why Apple choose not to integrate touchid into power butoon like iPad Air,iPad Mini ? and that change would allow to increase the screen size in same frame ?
Because that would require a new chassis and technology to implement touch ID on the power button. Think about it, by reusing the same physical housing/chassis of the iPhone SE for three generations now, it saves money with out having to re-tool and re-manufacture an entirely different phone through mapping touch ID on the power button.

Does anyone know what chipset is used for cellular baseband in the new iPhone SE, and what could be the theoretical peak performance with LTE and 5G?

So much performance. So little screen.

People are specifically buying this model because it has a smaller screen (small overall form factor) and it has Touch ID (useful when wearing masks etc) and it has an LCD screen (some people don't like OLED for various reasons).

On top of that, this phone has the latest processor and 5G connectivity. There's no other product which offers the same set of features. What's not to like?

I would love a small iPhone with an iPad mini touch ID.

Photo and video editing apps can benefit from access to more RAM, as they are able to keep more layers stored in memory. Additional RAM can also allow more apps and pages loaded in Safari to remain active in the background.

And it enables developers to be lazy, not optimizing the memory footprint of their apps thereby requiring more RAM, and more RAM... and the cycle continues. ?

Well in India though, where I live.

iPhone SE is launched for INR 44,000 (USD 579)

I got the iPhone 12 for INR 46,000 (USD 598).

iPhone 12 Mini was priced at INR 34,000 (USD 442).

So I have no idea who SE 2022 is for. It certainly is not for consumers in developing economies.

Why blame Apple? You should ask your government where is the logic behind the tax?

Considering switching back to this affordable beast following my BUGGY AS HELL Pixel 5, which was great until Android 12.

I hate Face ID on my iPad Pro, so I don't mind the fingerprint reader on the phone.
I have an iPad Pro and an iPhone 13 mini. From my experience, I can say that the face recognition is more reliable on the phone. When you're using the phone, you're more likely to be "face on" to the face sensor. With the iPad, I sometimes have to remind myself to deliberately look up towards the top of the screen.

They do assemble and reduce prices on last generation products because that reduces the tax by a lot.
So the logic behind the tax is to ensure locally made goods are sold here so there’s more employment. Kinda like how sending all the manufacturing from Europe and America to China is bleeding them now.

Anyway my point was that SE 2022 is priced too close to iPhone 12.

I'm not so sure about that anymore.

iOS 12 came out in Sept. 2018 and Apple has provided updates/bug fixes for it as recently as Sept. 2021, so for 3 years.

But starting with iOS 14, Apple says they will no longer provide updates/bug fixes for it. So they're abandoning it after 1 year.

Sure, some will say just update to iOS 15 or whatever version of iOS is receiving support at the time. But what if the user doesn't want Apple's CSAM B.S. or whatever other future garbage they come up with that's included with the iOS update?

where does one get a 12/12 mini at those prices? I’d buy the 12 mini for under 35k easy peasy.
It was available in October on Flipkart. I think the last discounted price was also under 40k for Mini base. Wait for the next sale on 11th March.

If Apple offered the iPhone SE3 with those list of features, the price would go up more than $30 compared to the outgoing iPhone SE2

The reason Apple's able to sell the SE3 at the $429 price is because they're reusing the old iPhone 8 body where manufacturing costs and efficiencies have been optimized as best they can.

If they want to create a Touch ID iPhone that’ll be a runaway success- just make a PLUS version of this phone.
Hint: copy the iPhone 8 Plus and drop in a A15 and 5G modem. Done.

I wonder when Apple will move away from touch id on the SE series of phones? I imagine with them starting to redesign the front facing camera on the newer iPhone models. I can see future iPhone SE using the older front facing camera design for Face ID.

Cheap iPads + iPhones will have Touch ID is what it looks like from the past couple of years. Since Mac’s don’t get Face ID I don’t think they will axe Touch ID at all

So much performance. So little screen.
I have a relative who recently bought an iPhone 13 mini, when his first-gen SE failed, because that was the smallest phone Apple sells. He rejected the second-gen SE as too big. It's not like he wears super tight jeans or anything, he just doesn't like "big" phones. Some people have different needs/wants.

Since Mac’s don’t get Face ID
….Yet.

That doesn’t mean Apple won’t expand into that segment. It’s seams feasible, but it doesn’t seem necessary yet, but Face ID hasn’t been around long enough to make a determination that it won’t happen.

Iphone 13 user here, so I'm not the target customer.
But I feel this phone perfectly matches the needs of its target audience, as the people interested in it have a specific interest in the "old" touch ID System.
The presence of an home button is felt more like a feature rather than a limitation to contain costs.

The price hike was a bit unpleasant, but this product kinda makes sense.
The only trouble is that at 420$ you start seeing Oleds on android phones and despite being loyal to iOS until the end, it feels a bit outdated to have an LCD on an iPhone.

I'm personally thinking of making my mother switch to iOS and I need a simple yet durable iPhone that would receive system updates for 5 years, therefore I'll probably get an SE for her birtdhay, in the fall.
