Iphone 13 user here, so I'm not the target customer.
But I feel this phone perfectly matches the needs of its target audience, as the people interested in it have a specific interest in the "old" touch ID System.
The presence of an home button is felt more like a feature rather than a limitation to contain costs.

The price hike was a bit unpleasant, but this product kinda makes sense.
The only trouble is that at 420$ you start seeing Oleds on android phones and despite being loyal to iOS until the end, it feels a bit outdated to have an LCD on an iPhone.

I'm personally thinking of making my mother switch to iOS and I need a simple yet durable iPhone that would receive system updates for 5 years, therefore I'll probably get an SE for her birtdhay, in the fall.
The price increase does not surpirse me considering the 5G modem, supply chain shortages, and gas price hikes due to Russia invasion of Ukraine raising transportation costs. The iPhone SE is a low cost option for prepaid and budget consious consumers.

Sure. I was just answering his question though. I personally think it's an amazing device for that price. But I bought iPhone 12 for $25 more 4 months ago. I am sure others can do that as well. iPhone SE makes less and less sense each year. They should have at least used the iPhone XR shell for it.

As someone who prefers smaller phones and home button TouchID, I'm happy the old design is sticking around for another year or two.

For me, OLED = migraines so I'm happy this still has LCD.

Can someone exaplain me; for iPhone SE3 why Apple choose not to integrate touchid into power butoon like iPad Air,iPad Mini ? and that change would allow to increase the screen size in same frame ?
The cost of those changes would have meant that they would have raised the price further to protect their profit.

It will happen, but not now.

I'm also happy about it. I've been trying a OnePlus 8T on Android 11. It's rather big and I meant for it to be a replacement for a small tablet. Having the 2020 iPhone SE and the OnePlus 8T, I can be sure which I like best.

I'm not seeing a huge benefit to the OLED display, but outdoors, it's as bad or worse than the 2020 iPhone SE display.

I’m really glad with this SE3 cause my mom needs and upgrade from the 8 and I have the SE2 and honestly this SE2 I’m currently typing on is great and not sluggish at all.

Just wish I had gotten larger than 64GB.

Really looking forward to camera comparisons of the new SE, not just with the Pros but also the iPhone 8 which it and the SE2 were based on.

Just like the 2020 SE, the 2022 SE will have better dynamic range than the iPhone 8, despite the same camera hardware, in addition to deep fusion. But that's probably about it, as it still doesn't have night mode. So expect slightly better photos, but not a huge jump. Imo the biggest jump in iPhone photography was night mode.

I agree and it’s such a shame the new SE doesn’t have night mode capabilities. Could’ve been a serious low cost contender in the smartphone space.

Probably the same reason Apple keeps telephoto on the $1000 iphones instead of trickling it down. To segment the products. Pheasant iphone users won't have all the niceties...?

Bingo.

I thought I was the only one. My eyes hurt after only a few minutes of use and I get insane headaches.

This only happens with my iPhone 13 Pro. Never happened on my SE2.

Can’t wait to get the SE3. LCD is so much easier on the eyes. I don’t play games and while I do notice (and like) the 120 display rate, I’m just not willing to make other sacrifices (bigger, heavier, annoying Face ID, etc.)

The only thing I valued on the iPhone 13 Pro was 5G. This was holding me back from going back to SE2.

There’s a lot of back and forth on here about 5G being spotty. I’m on T-Mobile and for me, it’s incredibly fast wherever I go in the Chicago area.

Here’s my personal take on night photos…

I do notice that night photos on my iPhone 13 Pro are significantly better than they were on my iPhone 12 and SE2. It’s an improvement over something that used to be outright terrible.

But in practice, they still suck. It’s not like suddenly photos taken at night look incredible. They don’t. Taking photos at night or in low light is just less bad than it used to be IMO. They are still somewhat grainy and far from what I would consider great.

battery life can't be that much better right? That's maybe the biggest drawback of the SE.

I'm not so sure about that anymore.

iOS 12 came out in Sept. 2018 and Apple has provided updates/bug fixes for it as recently as Sept. 2021, so for 3 years.

But starting with iOS 14, Apple says they will no longer provide updates/bug fixes for it. So they're abandoning it after 1 year.

Sure, some will say just update to iOS 15 or whatever version of iOS is receiving support at the time. But what if the user doesn't want Apple's CSAM B.S. or whatever other future garbage they come up with that's included with the iOS update?

EASY, just get a Samsung S22+
I dun see any problem here and APPLE didn't force their customer to buy iPhone, they can buy Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Samsung.

SE 2022 has same cameras as SE 2020. No new camera hardware in the new 3rd Gen model.

SE 2022 just gets new image processing because of the A15.

Man, a lot of people are affected by PWM on the OLED display.

It’d be better yet if they increased the pixel density to 458ppi. Thankfully, the LCD on iPhone SE has an excellent color calibration that should match iPhone 13.

It seems to be around 15-25% better than on SE 2020, if you go purely by Apple’s listed hours on Apple.com.

it’s a okay improvement considering that the battery itself probably hasn’t gone up in size but is just better due to A15.

However, anyone who’s lived with SE2020 knows that a 15-25% improvement for the battery is nowhere enough.

If SE 2020 got some 3h40 minute in those randomized battery drain tests that the various tech YouTubers do, then the SE 2022 still shouldn’t hit the magic 5h mark that is the minimum for acceptable battery life.

iPhone 11 hits the 5 hour mark in tests and according to Apples own numbers iPhone 11 has around 15-30% better battery life over the SE 2022

I hope Apple is lying to make its more expensive iPhones more attractive. The 11 is still $499. But if not then the SE 2022 has pretty bad battery life from day one, just like SE 2020.

Judging by official specs, the iPhone 11 is essentially “SE 4th Gen” on basically all specs except for it’s main chip (A13) and is only $70 more than SE 2022.

TLDR: A $499 64GB iPhone 11 is a way better deal than the $429 SE 2022.

Rumors are that a + version may come out in the Fall. THAT would be cool. Anything with Touch ID, and a larger screen, will grab some people.

And great to hear about the Ram. I was hating on this upgrade quite a bit. Now to see what happens with the battery.

….Yet.

That doesn’t mean Apple won’t expand into that segment. It’s seams feasible, but it doesn’t seem necessary yet, but Face ID hasn’t been around long enough to make a determination that it won’t happen.
I think it will happen and the unnecessarily large notch in the MBPs is in my opinion a clear indicator for that. It's overly big for what it currently does but once they implement FaceID, they will need it.

Yes I know, I made that clear in my post. The SE3 has the iPhones 8’s camera, as does the SE2.

The SE is basically a spruced up iPhone 8.

Camera should be way better. SE makes great pictures, but when there is not enough light everything is grainy. 5G means no way to force 3G again and hence lower battery life.
