Add me to the list of people who wants OneNote and Visio in a native Mac Form... I've tried a lot of the alternatives but there is still no substitute for OneNote.

The Icons? Bleh. I'll take the ones from Office 2008 and replace the 2011's with 'em, but will Outlook's dock icon do the bouncywouncy mail notification with the envelope with the old entourage icons (and does it do it with the new version with the Outlook Icon)? I hate to admit it but I like that little annoying little "feature."

I wouldn't mind seeing Microsoft Access either; I don't care the fact that 'Filemaker' is what 'Mac users like', there are Mac users like me who need Access because we happen to live in the real world where people demand quick and dirty solutions.

I prefer OmniGraffle to Visio, the only thing that's missing is the complete network diagram icons from Visio but that can be fixed.

The video may be a bit misleading, since I use SSD on a Core i7 iMac + 8Gb RAM (this may not really be an average config), but on the same system, Office 2008 is a bit slower compared to this, so there is a some speed increase from 2008.

I purchased both iWork '09 and Office 2008, but so far, I like the 2011 beta 3 the most. Also, Excel compatibility is greatly improved, so I have no problems opening complex spreadsheets created in Office 2010 for Windows.

Keep up the good work MacBU, I'll probably buy this version as soon as it is released! :)

(btw, the iso installer is out in the wild now, go hunt for it if you know what I mean...)

Indeed, I could finally (almost) get rid of having to run bootcamp. Access is by far the biggest thing I miss when in Mac OSX.

I agree, 2011 beta 3 is my favorite suite to use on the Mac right now. They still have months of optimizing to go, which is pretty exciting considering how well beta 3 is now. The move from beta 2 to 3 is a huge one in terms of stability and performance.

Apple need to get iWork '11 done sooner than later because I have a feeling people are going back to office this time.

If access is the only reason then why not just use virtual machine instead.

I'm using Beta 3 and only Outlook appears to be working. Word, Excel and PowerPoint crash almost immediately upon launching.

Anyone else having this problem? I figured it probably was using corrupted Beta 2 preferences, so I used Spotlight to delete all preferences. When that didn't work, I did an uninstall and reinstalled. Still having the same troubles.

I'll have to try Beta 3 on another machine and see if it works, or else just wait for Beta 4 or something.

I haven't notice it crash at all, might be something unique to you.

Yeah, but I dunno what it could be. I've tried installing to my MacBook which had no version of Office on it before and same thing... Everything but Outlook seems to crash.

Maybe the disk image I found is corrupted.

Doesn't it check for corruption when you mount it?

You should try to redownload it just in case.

Performance paranoia. I only have 4 gigs of ram and sometimes I work with fairly large datasets. I haven't tried out any VM software though, so this is all assumption on my part. With a 2.53 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4 GB RAM MacBook Pro, do you think I'd get reasonable performance?

Yes, you do get direct access to the CPU and RAM. VM are not the same thing as emulation where it has to fake the whole hardware.

You can assign one core of your CPU and 1-2GB of RAM to your virtual machine and it'll use the max of it if needed.

It doesn't hurt to try it.

Takes the exact same time to start up on my iMac with a C2D and an HDD, so they clearly have some work to do if you get no speedup from an SSD and an i7.

It can't really get any faster than that. The fact that it takes the same time on your hdd is a good thing, not a bad thing.

But they do still have months left before their holiday schedule.

Yeah, it's very strange. Downloaded fine, mounts fine and seemingly installs fine. So I honestly dunno why nothing but Outlook isn't working, even on a fresh install with no previous Office software at all.

Guess I'll just download the whole disk image again. I mean, something must have gone wrong, however minor.

Beta 3 apps crash on launch for me too. Anyone had any luck after re-downloading installer or repairing permissions?

Me too - everything crashes except Outlook. Tried uninstalling, completely getting rid of all files associated with Office (beta 2 & 3), deleted all fonts that showed a hint of trouble, repaired permissions, and reinstalled, but didn't help.

I worked it out. The installer adds duplicate fonts which will cause the applications to crash on launch. The solution is to use Font Book to turn-off the duplicate fonts: Font Book > Collection > Computer > Select all > Resolve Duplicates.

Can someone tell me how to download Office 2011 for Mac 3rd Beta Version?

I am new to Mac, long-time PC User, who generally dislikes Office for Mac 2008. Can someone tell me how to download the 3rd Beta Version of Office for Mac 2011? Thanks in advance

I'm using the latest beta and it SCREAMS!

Love how Microsoft sped things up! Instant launching of Excel and Word!

Nice!

I think that's the main issue with Office for Mac. It is incredibly slow in opening and crashes easily. If they figure that out for good, then I'm switching back from NeoOffice to Office for Mac.
