Both Betas have been very unstable. I don't know if this has been posted yet but has anybody else had a problem with the Power/Wake button not "waking up" the phone when locked? Almost every time I have to press it 3 times before the screen turns on! VERY ANNOYING!!

Yuuuuup

It sounds more like you're the problem and not the OS. I'm just saying.

You must be a blast at parties

I agree that iOS 8 betas have been horrible compared to iOS 7‘s. Actually, I've been able to stick with every beta for years (I've been using iOS since 1.1.1; I think I've used every dev beta Apple has released) but this years' have been much worse for me in terms of show-stopping bugs and stability. I'm back on 7.1.1 on all of my devices, yet again. :(

Im sticking with 8, but its not on a device I use all the time. Strictly a testing device. I agree this is the buggiest beta in a long time...

I agree, buggiest ever, by a HUGE margin. There are always problems (that's what you expect), but not like this. I've run every beta since 4.0 beta 1, and had to restore exactly zero times. I've had to restore three times in the last 5 days. Mail--historically one of the strong points of the iOS platform--is also a complete mess.

For reference: Last week makes 20 years in IT for me (currently managing IT Ops for a mid-size company), and I've been formally alpha/beta testing software since NT 4.0 Beta 1 in 1995 (still have the CDs for beta 2). I'm not bitching about the problems because that is literally what I signed up for. But based on my own experience, this is one of the least-polished formal beta products I've interacted with. It's really more of an alpha from a quality perspective, IMO.

In your opinion, do you think it will be ready by October/September with little instability. So for reference more like 5.0 than 7.0. With my experience Apple is very fast with development and bug fixing after they have the idea down. But this seems like its problems with underlying structure. They are of course messing with how API's work and with the promise of 4000 API's (some small I know) it seems like they might not make it.

lol my mac won't recognize my iPhone now. Nor will my iPhone recognize its charging so i had to delete everything

well thats enough betas for me. Back to iOS 7 and the jailbreak. t'was fun.

1. Siri gets turned off
2. Keyboard click sound enables itself. Even though in settings it has been turned off.
3. Facetime unavailable message.

going back to 7.1.1 fails as developer.apple.com provides only 7.1 build

Consider going back to 7.1.1 if it's really bad for you. I've been able to stick it out through all the iOS betas to date, but everything that I use on a daily basis was negatively affected by both iOS 8 betas so far. Therefore, I decided to go back to 7.1.1. I now have a new appreciation for how smooth and stable iOS 7 really is, that's for sure.

Your help will be appreciated if you had successfully rolled back to ios 7

I think they'll release on time, but it will still be rough--what I'd categorize as "late beta" in terms of quality. 8.0.3 or 8.1.0 will be as stable as 7.0.0

Really that bad??

i think people have a short term memory. i have been using iOS betas since 3.0 and they've all been pretty terrible at the beginning and clean up really quickly near the end. i don't think we have anything to worry about here. the next couple betas should clear up pretty well before the GM is released.

Agreed, the first couple of betas are always pretty bad. Sometimes I think the 1st one is normally the best out of the first 3. It seems they are always breaking stuff in the first couple ones.

After years of developing on iOS, I have learned that I would never put a beta on my daily device, only a test device!

That's what i was afraid of...

This is the first time I've had to revert back to a stable version. This beta is horrible. Also the fact that they might be pulling devs to work on Yosimite is distressing.

Yeah it doesnt make sense why this one is so bad. The others are bad, but this one is pretty excessive. I never really thought about the devs and new OS, maybe that is hurting. Or these OS are getting so complicated it makes it alot harder to test thoroughly...

I keep getting things turned off or deleted. Lets get a list going to submit...

1) Siri
2) iMessage
3) app data gets ereased. Have to go through tutorials...

-----------

4) cannot pick up calls on some instances.
5) sleep/wake button not working
6) Location services gets turned off.

If you are running into any problems remember to report them yourself.

I have all these and many more.
Some are in iOS 7 also. Like the wake screen not responding.
I have reported many bugs. I hope Apple can fix them.
One I had was when selecting a bunch of mail the check-boxes kept dispersing.
I can't wait for a nice stable release.
But I am doing my part by reporting them.

It's very unstable basically useless phone... I already reported all the bugs I encountered to apple. Hopefully with the third update isn't as bad as this one.:(

if one of my friends started ranting at me about how i shouldn't expect the beta to be perfect and shouldn't be running it on my phone in the first place when i was simply trying to show them iOS 8 beta and discuss a couple of the issues it currently has, i'd probably never bother talking to them again. i don't know why people think it's appropriate to behave like that on the internet.
i think they just want to feel important. i wish people would realize that it's okay to just have a conversation about beta software without reading any further into it.

Best post on this entire forum. That being said, iOS 8 Beta has felt like an Alpha. I've never had so many problems with iOS Betas in the past. My phone has become completely nearly unusable as well.

Agreed. I have run past Beta's on my daily device and its been pretty normal. Maybe some random resets or weird issues but nothing like this one. Luckily I am not having to daily this one, I would be in a world of hurt :(

That's a good point. There are a lot of things being done under the hood so to speak. Opening up things to devs and such.

If the wake screen thing was an issue in 7.x and it seems like the right side of the power button is the only one effected it might be the phone. I heard that the iPhone 5 had a problem and Apple was replacing those effected even out of warranty.

I have discovered that if you use bluetooth in certain cars, then disconnect bluetooth or turn the car off, you will lose all internet connection through your phone service data plan (not WIFI) until you reboot the phone. There is a setting in IOS 8 that will automatically trigger voice control if the phone cannot detect an internet connection. I bet if you turned off WI-FI, you are no longer able to get online and get emails. This is a MAJOR bug which i already submitted to Apple.

I think this is true of any bluetooth speaker connection. My Xbuds turn on voice control every time.

I think I had to revert iOS 4 or 5 betas back to the stable one near the beginning because if i remember right, the phone app was HORRIBLY unstable. I often couldn't accept calls if I got them. iOS 7 early betas were similar -- i remember having some major issue with the phone app in iOS 7 too. Like maybe I couldn't get back into it if I left the app mid-call or something.
