To sum up my replies to everyone, first ive been buying apple products since the powerbook days back when owning a mac was very exclusive. So when i say exclusive im referring to apple overall. Sure nowadays ios products are everywhere but apple owners as a whole is still an exclusive group. and when i say exclusive i mean the fact that not everybody has it or knows about what it has to offer. Second im not talking about stock. i dont care about that. what im saying is that there is no hype. hype drives the consumer market. Air jordan releases hyped, gaming counsel releases hyped, ios products hyped. Only a certain kind of product can generate hype and apple usually does a great job in exploiting that hype but this year i just didnt feel it. im not saying anything about sales, im not saying anything about stock, im just speaking about the hype and the event that is an apple release.
It's because they created enough supply this time around. You'd feel much cooler if not every kid on the block had one.
Did you see the news coverage following the announcement of the iPad? Did you read any of the tech sites and their coverage of the iPad? Did you see the numerous media outlets release their reviews a few days ago? I'd say there was quite a bit of hype. I saw another Bloomberg video clip just TODAY about the new iPad. Every other tech company on Earth would kill for this kind of free press coverage. And when the sales numbers are released, there will be predictably the same hype as usual. And everyone will look back and laugh at how the naysayers were calling this the beginning of the end for Apple.
Being a part of the Apple family has an exclusive feeling a sense of being a part of something that only a few people get to enjoy...but I just wish it felt more exclusive.
In years past Apple iOS devices always had a special feeling on the release date. but this time it just doesn't seem like that. My friends and family members who are not really into tech didn't even know that the iPad 3rd gen was released. let alone the name, weather its the iPad 3, HD, or the new iPad. I've only seen the TV ad for the device one time, and I watch a lot of TV. just doesn't seem like a normal release, seems kind of weird. I guess without the long lines, scalpers, and media frenzy it just does not have the same kick as years pass. Being a part of the Apple family has an exclusive feeling a sense of being a part of something that only a few people get to enjoy. and that feeling grows ever stronger when a great product is released and we get to be people to get it, while the rest of the world just sits back and wishes they could be a part of it. this year I just didn't get that feeling. I love my iPad, but I just wish it felt more exclusive.
There haven't been any commercials of it on TV. No one is really talking about it..
I consider the new iPad as off-canon.
... this year I just didn't get that feeling. I love my iPad, but I just wish it felt more exclusive.
Ummmm I see the new commercial quite often.
No idea what OP's problem is. This is the iPad Ive been waiting for since the original. Two damn years. The hardware has considerably more muscle and app support than when the iPad launched. How could anyone not be ecstatic. The only explanation i have is that some people like the thrill of the chase than the product itself. Watch how over excited people get next January when iPad 4 parts leak. However good it turns out to be they'll pick on something to whine about.
This is the downside of ensuring availability for everyone.
If you think previous iPads were scarce because of actual manufacturing problems, I have a bridge to sell you.
Scarcity increases perceived value and keeps you in the news cycle longer.
Availability pleases the customers who want one, but decreases perceived value and shortens your news cycle.
Because the Japan tsunami had nothing to do with availability of certain electronics used on the iPad 2...
I have a bridge to sell *You*![]()

It really didn't affect the iPad that much.
And more than just the iPad 2 has suffered from "shortages."
Well obviously somebody didn't read my post. Because if you did then why are you talking about the iPad as if I said ANYTHING about the iPad not being up to snuff. Well this thread is dead too many people got defensive and manifested it into something it wasnt. Bye.
