Steve is dead.

Everyone down voted this comment, but there is some truth to it. Honestly, don't you think that the new iPad would be a little more exciting if Steve was still alive and he was the one to give the keynote? Tim Cook is a nice guy, but let's be real here.

No, I don't think that's what that is at all. Apple obviously meant for this to be a soft release. They know what they're doing. I honestly think they've got their minds in developing and coming up with something much bigger. But they still wanted to give the consumers what they wanted. (A new iPad)

It has no discernible differences, but that was the point. They're holding off for the real goodies.

what im saying is that there is no hype. hype drives the consumer market. Air jordan releases hyped, gaming counsel releases hyped, ios products hyped. Only a certain kind of product can generate hype and apple usually does a great job in exploiting that hype but this year i just didnt feel it. im not saying anything about sales, im not saying anything about stock, im just speaking about the hype and the event that is an apple release.

It all depends in the individual. Hype can be erratic. You mention Air Jordans as an example. I have no idea what they look like, how much they cost, or when they're released. Mostly because I don't care. I'm sure it's the same for other people with Apple products or game consoles.

A few things that you have to consider which make up the recipe of which you speak:

1) the iPad is no longer "NEW" nor in need of a massive upgrade like the media hype that involved the 2nd gen.

2) it may have felt a bit anticlimactic in the respect of not having hundreds of people camp overnight outside of a store. However, I think Mr Cook handled the release brilliantly. The supply has met the initial demand. IMHO this makes apple look less like some company scrambling to put something out half finished or planned and rather like a pro company meeting the demands of it's consumers.

3) Most of the fans had more than enough hype on MR to cover for any other media type. Although I heard about the iPad release several times through the radio where I live (Ottawa, Canada).

You want to see hype, just wait until the iPhone5 comes out. I have been hungering for that bad boy for 2 years now! I am sure it will be amazing, not to say that the current ones aren't.

True, though the Retina display was what I was waiting for - and they delivered! I love it! Though now most my apps don't look very good since they haven't updated to Retina support... yet - hehe. :D

I was excited, still am excited and I thought it was cool how the staff came out cheering at the Apple Store launch. :). It Woke others and I up a bit too lol.

The display alone as others are mentioning was a great Upgrade, and I'm still floored by the clarity of it.

im getting alot of defensive replies like im bashing apple. i am in no way bashing apple or the new ipad. im not saying apple is done. all im saying is that this launch did not feel as special as it usually does.

No one is saying you're bashing apple. Everyone is bashing you and your childish need to feel exclusive based on buying a super popular product. It makes you sound silly and naive.

How many more of these threads will there be :confused:

Um, couldn't you let people have their opinion? People have different opinions of the product you know. He says that he's not excited about the iPad. He's not the only one. You could live with that.

Yes we can live with it, on the other threads already here on the very same (none) "issue".

He says he's not excited because it doesn't feel exclusive, big difference, and to that i say wtf how many millions of people have these things??? apple stopped being exclusive a long long time ago.

Yes the "magical" hype is slowing down... i remember fan boy tell how Lion was good figure that... anyway the ipad is taking the route of the ipods.

Every news outlet talked about the new iPad. It's important to note that the iPad is not as popular as the iPhone . So don't expect similar results around launch days.

Main reason IMO: It is impossible to tell the difference between the new iPad and iPad 2 without holding it in your hands.

The 4S looked the same when released, but it had one major software revision with Siri.

New iPad has an awesome screen, but if you are just casually watching TV you don't really notice.

Also a side effect of the "iPad" naming scheme. By calling this iPad 3 I think it would have been a bit more hyped to be honest. And one last thing, it is readily available. There are no multi-month shortages like with iPad 2.
