As usual folks don't read the article before commenting, this is neither water nor shockproof so quite useless for the purposes above. Now if it were made more rugged you can bet lots of folks would be interested.
I read the article and noticed that it wasn't shock proof or waterproof. That doesn't mean that it still isn't their intended audience. They can have their waterproof shock proof tablet to use out in the field all the time but a phone with that long of talk time and standby time at base camp is huge and a life safer if their other equipment failed or lost power. Hell, the benefit of the battery with cellular or satellite tethering lasting extra long in the field where there is no internet is huge.
Please don't just ASSUME things because it tends to make an ASS out of U and ME.

Bruh, you need to update your facts before you call others out. Amazon is flooded with 20,000 mAh batteries for around $30.

Like I told the other guy, THAT'S A BATTERY PACK, NOT A CASE! Seriously, I've been in the market for an external battery solution for weeks considering my job, I've done a little bit of research. That item that you linked is gonna hang off your phone with a cable if you plan on walking around with it. Not saying this POS phone in the topic is justified. Just pointing out the difference between this and those ****** bump packs that encase your phone.

Yeah, and like the other guy said... the original post was about a PACK not a CASE. You switched it up. Not us. So you insulting the guy because he was talking about a PACK, and you wanted a CASE, was wrong. You owe him an apology lol. And the point of a PACK is not that you carry it around hooked up (though I have seen people do it), but that you charge when you aren't so busy. plan ahead. I don't like the weight that CASES add. I prefer the flexibility of PACKS. But I don't chastise people because they prefer something different. Well, not most of the time.

I like the innovation of ideas. This phone is hideuos and no one will ever use one. But anyone rememebr Martin Cooper? probably not, but I bet everyone who reads this is glad he made that call.

Useless, Junk. Just because people run out of battery before end of the day doesn't mean you come out with a solution to charge the whole bus filled with people. They could have tried with say 10k mah around, the phone would still be thin enough to be called smartphone.

For all of those who wanted more battery instead of a thin phone!!:)

I was waiting for some wise ass to come up with this comment. Your life will be easier if you at least attempt to understand other people instead of trying to make everything you understand into a joke.

You must be new here. CONSTANT posts about bigger batteries over design.

And yet you struggle to find a post about bigger batteries over anything. But it doesn’t stop you from claiming that’s true.

Bigger batteries over “must be 0,01mm thinner at any (read: battery) cost” post are common, I grant you that. Maybe one day you realize the difference between that and “design”.

Funny a few weeks ago I was thinking if Apple picked one flag ship iPhone per launch and offered a "PROX" version (for lack of a better word), what do I mean:

Well a performance model.

Simply add a mere 2-4 extra mm's giving that space over to battery, they'd get the price too and customers wouldn't have to choose battery packs anymore, which represent a greater form factor compromise that Johnny biting his tongue.

If Apple addressed this market at point of manufacture, they'd win because they'd get to charge for it and customers who want it win.

I'm sure the thinking is everyone is near a power point but for some professional and those who take long journeys. I think it would be a serious and welcomed choice at time of upgrade.

As I said Johnny feelings could take a hike in this instance, since the slimmest model would naturally be the larger seller, Apple could make out on it too. Win-win.
[doublepost=1551267695][/doublepost]To the brick reviewed at the top of this article - lets hope their battery quality control is top notch or else you might find yourself self-detonating at the most inconvenient of times!

It would be nice if Apple produced a rugged version of the iPhone. One that can be thrown across a room and not break. The iPhone already has to be surrounded by an otterbox or some other protective case. Why not just design an iPhone with integrated protection. I would pay extra for an iPhone like that. And if Apple designed such an iPhone it might actually look better than an iPhone wrapped in another company's product.

I didn't look. You look. It's constant.

This is hilarious. I've been one of the biggest complainers about Apple's obsession with "thin" to the detriment of other features (such as a headphone jack and a bigger battery). I never found the 4S, for example, to be "too thick" at all.

I'd have zero problem with an iPhone that was 1.5X as thick as my current iPhone XS, that had substantially better battery life (and a headphone jack again, although I know that's never coming back.)

That said, I definitely think this monster brick is laughably too thick.

Thick means heavy. That's why all Far East copiers also have copied Apple's outer geometries. Is that so hard to understand? 1.5X for iPhone XS means 312 grams. The "usual community" at MacRumors would vomit their lungs out.

One doesn't even need to buy a battery case to get thicker. For example an Otterbox Defender is 25mm thick.
Stop.. look at the photo before commenting. It’s obviously way thicker than 18mm. Either that or it’s a 3” screen and Dooneese is holding it.

It feels like this should have some extra features like shock resistant, waterproof etc.. like others have said. Camera bump? only bonus being the huge battery? Nah. This thing is just ridiculous.

If I could have a different phone for each day of the week I would totally get this phone. It would come in handy at times!

while the execution is poor (per specs quoted), at least this represents a move in the right direction in terms of mobile phone size/weight philosophy. For too long, Apple has pushed their religion of "lighter" and "thinner" with no real justification. WHY does it need to be thinner? It makes it harder to hold, easier to drop, and compromises battery life. The focus for the last several years has been aesthetic-driven versus functionality-driven, in direct opposition to early Apple philosophy.
iPhones have been getting thicker and thicker every year since the iPhone 6.
