If the thickness was half that size, then maybe. The retail price is on the high side based on what's provided in the article.

I get the feeling it'd have double the battery life if it wasn't using Android

Sucks Windows Phone died, as far as mobile OS's and battery life goes, it was awesome. The HTC One W8 had twice the battery life of the HTC One M8 even though they used the same hardware
Never knew that, huge difference to be honest ― but to be fair, Android was more advanced (still not really an excuse)

Bruh, you obviously don't know anything about batteries. This phone has a 18,000mAh battery. That's 3 times the power provided by most battery cases, let alone something you can get for $30. I think people are really riding the bandwagon here since the phone is super thick without actually thinking about it.

Bruh, you need to update your facts before you call others out. Amazon is flooded with 20,000 mAh batteries for around $30.

This must be the dream phone for many of you here. Didn't you say you would prefer a thicker phone, if it will give better battery life?:p

Not much of a phone. You might as well grab a brick, paint it blue and and duct tape a phone to it. Then you will be able to recreate this beta designed phone and save yourself $682 dollars. Said device is good for protection as well. Should you be the victim of an attempted robbery etc., slam the perp in the head with your trusty phone brick., until the logo of the phone is imprinted on his forehead.

Agreed, but don’t assume my perp’s gender pls :p:D

I want camera tests. And that blue finish is really quite nice as well.

Some not all...

I was in the 'STAHP MAEKING IT SO THINS!' camp until I got my iPhone 7 Plus. Then I realized that Apple could not only have a phone that's so thin that you sometimes just hold it and marvel at it, but also lasts a day or more on a charge.

I kind of miss that phone, but I'll take the XS over it any day of the week. At least until Apple starts holding extra features back from the 'small' phones and reserving them for the Max.

I imagine if you are an outdoorsman and spend a lot of time camping or in the wilderness this thing would be awesome. Days without worrying about charge! but for everyday life it's too cumbersome and seriously we just want a battery that last a day.

Make it waterproof and shockproof and I am sure it would sell very well because there is a need for these devices, but as of now it looks like a half-baked loaf of bread.

I've never thought about the power efficiency advantages of a single larger battery vs swappable batteries before. So a single larger battery with an external power bank is likely to lose less charge while idling than the equivalent amount of power stored across five or six smaller batteries even when taking into account the ineffieciency of transferring power from the power bank's battery to the phone's battery?
No, what I meant was the total-size-to-battery-capacity ratio where total size includes the case for the battery pack, the control electronics, the ports, etc.. Just take five 5000 mAh battery packs and stack them on top of each other and then compare the size to a single 25'000 mAh pack. It won't be as tall as the stack of five battery packs.

They missed the boat on this one. It should have been ruggedized, waterproofed, &c. Basically perfect for someone who spends a lot of time in the outdoors. Especially those who won't be around a power source for days at a time.

Otherwise it should have been decked out with a high end CPU and other high end parts to justify the price. Batteries themselves are pretty cheap. Even one that size shouldn't add much to the cost of the phone.

Some not all...

They've done that and it's called the iPhone XR. Amazing battery life. Actually amazing iPhone all around

This thing can also jump start your car!

I'd totally take that thing hitchhiking (if hitchhiking was my thing). That would probably last 4 days or more. And when it eventually dies, I can probably kill a bear with it.

Omg. Everyone needs to calm down. This isn't a consumer phone. This is more for people who do research in the field for extended amounts of time. IE. Archeologists in remote locations where they can't just be by an ac outlet. US Military out in the field. Yes it is fat and ugly and no I won't be buying one but the people this is really geared towards care about functionality over form.

As usual folks don't read the article before commenting, this is neither water nor shockproof so quite useless for the purposes above. Now if it were made more rugged you can bet lots of folks would be interested.

Well, putting two sheets of notebook paper together results in a 100% increase in thickness, but does that really change much one way or another in reality?

Well, it means now you have double the amount of space to write on.

This is well past the point of reason. I’d rather use a battery pack instead and have the best of both worlds. A little more battery life is always welcome but this is a whole different proposition.
