I’ve seen multiple G9N panels with no such issue, so it all depends on the individual panels. Also, I personally compared many phones to the demo units throughout the years and I believe that they all have a special demo software where the screens just don’t act like retail units. They always seem to be dimmer even with all safety features turned off. Maybe they’re just too warm all the time.
Every time I read a comment from someone saying they compared their phone to all the demo units and felt relieved, because their phone was brighter, I chuckle.
I’ve noticed the same thing over the years: when I’ve compared my current iPhone with the demo units in store and with the display settings the same, mine always looks much brighter and better. Maybe because the demos are attached to wireless charging and heating up, the software dims the screen a bit, idk 🤷‍♂️, but my iPhone display always looks brighter than the demos.

Yes I had a g9p air it was warm at top with True Tone or night shift active. Returned it ended up with a base 17. G9Q and same again!! So annoyed. It looks like a GVC panel is the only way to go as my 16 pro max had this screen and it was bang on. Yes I tiny bit of blue tint if tilted but better than this rubbish. I have a decision to make. Return again and hope for a GVC which is rare on smaller iPhones or live without True Tone or night shift. I’m so annoyed
There might be the occasional GVC that isn’t perfectly uniform, but the vast majority of users who own one (myself included) have reported very good panel uniformity and no tint or hue issues when viewed head-on.

What I don’t understand is how, with more than 50 or 60 (I’ve lost count) examples in this very thread of Samsung units showing poor uniformity and pink tint/hue, some people still can’t acknowledge that it’s a common issue with Samsung panels. I openly admit the color shift on my GVC — would I prefer it not to be there? Of course. So why can’t the same be done with the Samsungs? How many more cases need to appear in this thread before people accept it?

We shouldn’t be here to irrationally defend one panel or another, but to help those who have doubts or want to know the common issues of each panel — so that, if it happens to them, they know what to expect when playing the screen lottery.

I honestly don’t understand your constant posts here pushing this weird agenda. It all sounds like you’re looking for some type of validation here, which is weird. You’re either happy and satisfied with something or you’re not. Some randos on the Internet wouldn’t change that.

Samsung-only question (G9N/G9Q/G9P): has anyone swapped a Samsung-panel iPhone for another Samsung panel and actually gotten noticeably better brightness/tint uniformity, or are these panels essentially all the same?

It’s always a panel lottery period

Yes. Had a G9N 17PM with terrible red tint at the bottom 1/3 of the screen. Current G9N 17PM has no issues.

No weird agenda, quite the opposite. I’m just pointing out what I see in this thread: more and more users are reporting uniformity issues with their Samsung panels.

I’m not accusing you of having a weird agenda for continually downplaying Samsung panel issues; it’s simply your opinion, and it’s just as valid as mine—that I believe it’s not appropriate at this point, given the evidence and testimonies we have.

Sorry for the philosophy 😄

I have a Base 17 with a G9P panel. This is a replacement Base 17 from Verizon (original panel unknown). My first one had a pink-ish hue towards the bottom 1/3rd of the display. I called them right away and they overnighted this replacement free of charge and no restocking fee.

I’m quite happy with this replacement. It does have a slight (minuscule) green tint when viewed at some angles other than head on. However, it is crisp, bright, vibrant and 100% uniform.

I’ve compared it casually to Apple Store displays (Bases, Pros & Airs) and other family members with Base 17’s, as well as Androids, and this one is damn near perfect. Compared to all the samples, suffice it to say, I feel this one would fall into the top 1% of what the panel should be.

For reference, I have a Base 17, 256GB, Black, G9P.

Yes I agree. I didn’t know this about Samsung panels but I do now and I have experienced it first hand twice. Obviously because I have had 2 GVCs and both have been fine I like them. I don’t care that if I point my phone at the floor I see blue tint. What matters to me is I look at my screen at a normal angle at it looks perfect. I don’t mind if it warm or cool so long as the whole thing is uniform that’s literally all I ask. However after deep research it appears whatever than panel it’s a lottery so really it doesn’t matter what panel you get.

My GVC is brighter at the bottom and dimmer at the top but it seems to be less of an issue than vice versa
Yea I think nearly all iPhones have some kinda quirk at this point. It whether it’s an issue to yourself and if you notice. It’s got to the point I would rather have an lcd

So yeah, it seems like my G9Q panel is tolerable — not perfect, but definitely not bad either.

I could play the panel lottery — maybe I’d get a slightly better one right away, or maybe I’d end up with something worse.

No real point in chasing a G9N, since it looks like those have the same issues anyway.

Also, neither my wife nor my sister could see any problems on my screen at all, which probably means there’s nothing truly noticeable or critical going on.

By the way, the photo was taken with a professional camera and properly calibrated settings, so it accurately shows how the screen actually looks in real life.
That doesn’t look bad at all. My G9Q is pretty similar when it is like that. If you look hard enough if my be slightly different at the top and in 95% grey test you can see it slightly as well. However turn True Tone & night shift on its whole different ball game the top of the screen is the nice warm orange hue that it gives. Bottom is almost normal. Was going to exchange but I could be doing this 10 times

I compare GH3 and G9N on 17pm.
the color I will choose LG's panel due to color accurate.
Samsung panels have a yellow/green mix fog on the panel that the color may shift to gray/yellow/green mixing, especially in light color base you will see more yellower and less color gradiant.
Maybe it just a trade off on these two different manufactors.

My previous 17 Pro was G9N and I thought it was perfect. Then I got my Air with a G9P (or G9Q, I forgot but it’s one of those two) and turns out it’s even better. The most perfect iPhone display I’ve ever had. Both Samsung.

I lucked out. Never letting this Air go, it’s like reference-level - super bright, perfectly uniform, no color shift at any angle.

I’m going crazy with this display. The lower part has a pinkish tint and looks brighter. When I flip it upside down, the unevenness seems to disappear. This effect is especially noticeable in strong ambient light conditions, like when I’m sitting in a room with a window next to me. Has anyone else noticed this?

It was a G9Q I believe you mentioning a while back.

Both are bad, but the one on the left is somewhat more tolerable. It’s also case in point that all these panels are never fully uniform, regardless of the manufacturer.

I'd choose the phone on the left. The one on the right has a very strong red hue. Look at the white background in the photos with the woman, it is red tinted and not uniform compared to the phone on the left. In my opinion. Poor uniformity like this one that is noticeable during regular use, i.e., looking at photos, would be instant return for me. I don't care if it is LG or Samsung, that phone on the right is just bad.

For those of you that have returned iPhones to Apple due to panel/tint issues, did they ask for a reason for the return and what did you tell them? Did you get any pushback?

If you’re within the 14-day return window, you can just say “I’ve changed my mind”.

Please tell me, is it normal that when I swipe the brightness pulses like this, look at the bottom of the screen
