Basically this post shows how reliable all of the rumors are on this site. Dont get me wrong, i like this website, but we do have to take everything on here with a grain of salt.

On that basis, the mid 2011 Mac Mini should be similar to the early 2011 13" MacBook Pro, possibly with slightly faster CPUs if Intel's prices have dropped enough. That would mean Sandy Bridge Core i5 and Core i7, Firewire 800 and Thunderbolt.
I would be happy if this were the case.

Buy a Radeon 5770 (yes it works), put 4-8GB ram, maybe make a raid 0 with 2 normal 7200rpm HD and your Mac Pro will fly!!!

Even the first Mac pro can still be a wonderfull machine. Upgrade and update OS to Snow or Lion and you will have a brand, fast, new machine.

This Mac Pro, rev 1 (5 years old) has:
- 2x dual-core 3GHz Xeon (C2D technology)
- 12GB RAM
- Intel 256GB SSD boot drive
- WD VelociRaptor 600GB 10,000 RPM SATA drive for data
- GeForce 8800GT (main) + GeForce 7300 (secondary)

This is the config I'm talking about feeling sluggish at times. I think I've taken it pretty far along, as far as upgrades. :-\

I hope this is true. I would love to add an updated Mini to my collection.

Take a 3.5" drive and hold it up against the mini. Now tell me where and how would they fit it?

I know it wouldn't fit. The case would need to be (roughly) 1.5" wider/deeper and 0.5" taller. I think the tradeoff is worthwhile to get a higher-capacity, faster, and less-expensive main drive. The Mini is often used as a media server (or regular file server) thus the interest. I know it won't happen though.

Thunderbolt will provide the opportunity for high-speed external expansion, just a higher cost. For really high-capacity needs though, that combination should be incredible. Mac Mini + 12TB RAID at 800MB/s under $3000 total. Wow.

I actually prefer the look of the white MacBooks. I have one now and with upgraded RAM (4GB) I see no real reason why I would need a MBP as I do not use it for anything particularly heavy, sure if you where doing something that needed a little more beef I could see why you would go in for a MBP but for my needs the white macbook is fine. As I see it all you get with a '13 MBP is a better processor, a few extra ports that I don't use, light up keys. Not really worth the extra money me thinks :)

They could do with an upgrade though, at least an i3 processor....

I wouldn't be surprised if the Mini was made even smaller this time around.

This surprises me, I thought the white Macbook was as good as dead. I see no reason to get the Macbook with the entry level air starting at the same price. If they dropped the price I might actually consider the white Macbook.
are you kidding me? Look at the quote below.
Same specs as 13"mbp, with the price of the 11" air. If anything, the air's price should drop, not the macbook's! That's the overpriced one with the ****** specs!

Specs will be the same as the 13" MBP, same as always.

I've been waiting for this. Can't wait to see what is in them.

PLEASE: no HD3000!!!!
lol sandy bridge = hd3000. We can always hope for a dump of the optical drive and use of a discrete gpu instead, but not so likely!

Mac Mini was made to be quite, and sip power. Large, fast HDD would defeat that purpose.

With all the DLNA devices out there, what need is there for a home server ? Save your money and by a DLNA certified NAS box.

It does sound a bit awkward indeed. However, I find the habit of Capitalizing Every New Word In A Single Sentence Much More Annoying. Seriously, what's up with that?
When I went to school, the style guides said to capitalize everything in titles except prepositions and articles. Nowadays, it seems only proper nouns are capitalized, which make titles just like every other sentence. What's up with that?

The white MacBook needs to go the way of the dodo. The better equipped MBP is too close in price.

Better equipped? They will probably have the same specs, and the macbook is cheaper too...
Geez, it's not hard to understand, maybe it's hard to remember or realize, I don't know. But people always forget that macbook pro = MacBook with an aluminum case that costs 200$ more. Sorry I prefer plastic, it's not that bad as you think.

The difference is that an 11" computer cannot really be used as a primary machine, whereas a 13" screen is plenty big enough.

False. I've been using mine as my primary machine for months. Previously, I've had only 13 inch notebooks. I prefer the 11 just fine. It is faster than my previous Macbooks and 13 inch Macbook Pro for the tasks I do.

Yep. And later you will regret it.
Faster is fun, but how many full read/write do you have on the SSD? Ok, you can start applications 0.5 sec faster then a "slow" SSD.

16GB ram? What are you going to do? 2000000x2000000 images in Photoshop?

I would be happy with about double that, of course I'm an animator also

in USA it is just $200 price difference between 13" MB and MBP, outside USA it is hell of money to get Aluminum.

50% of the sales coming outside of USA.

Think outside the USA (box)!!! :D

The Air really cannot be used as a full fledged notebook because of the lack of optical drive. Sure you may not use it, but Apple thinks about everyone too. The MB is the cheapest full notebook that Apple offers and not everyone wants the MBP or Air.

Apple doesn't revolve around you. There are many other people in this world that need an optical drive or a bigger screen for stuff. The 13" is a perfect size computer for many students too.
