"The Air really cannot be used as a full fledged notebook because of the lack of optical drive."

Nonsense. Tell that to my wife whose been using Airs (she's on her second) for years as her primary notebook. She does have an external optical, which sits gathering dust in a drawer. Same for me, my laptop has a DVD drive, cannot remember the last time I used it.

There is no way the White Macbook and the Air are on the same level.

For 999$ : White Macbook 13in, 2GB Ram 2.4GHz processor. 250GB Hard Drive

In order to match those specs you need to dish out 1300+
and that does not even give you the same.

For 1300$ : Macbook Air, 13in, 2GB ram, 1.86GHz processor, 128GB Flash Storage.

Now to mention the White Macbook is easily upgraded. Over the 1 years i have had my new white macbook. I have upgraded my ram to 8GB and my Harddrive to 500GB. all for less than 200$. They are not even CLOSE
2' can actually make a big difference. Not to mention the specs

The macbook air is for a different set of people when compared to the Air. I dont see why people are so surprised Apple is still keeping them.

One the Macbook is updated the only difference between it and the Pro is the back light keyboard, Aluminium and the standard Ram that comes in it. I do not need the back light keyboard and therefore it is cheaper for me to go with the White Macbook.
Not to mention I would rather have the white plastic. By friend dropped his Pro and now has a full dent on it. Where as When i hit my macbook against the table i just have a chip.

With 250GB of ram it's obviously going to beat the 'air' ;)

What happened with the MacBook serial?

Now that we know Apple has discontinued the white MacBook -- what happened with the serial number? Are we back at Mac Pro rumors again or was it some kind of refurbished white MacBooks?

average time between mac pro update

I just wanted to point out that the average time between update for the mac pro is 348 days. not 259.
i can't wait.

I ordered a new mac pro last tuesday and still haven't received a tracking number. wondering if apple is doing the same thing they did with me last year when i ordered a mac mini and got the updated version.

I'm in a similar position: My G5 is totally dead and I'm waiting for a Mac Pro upgrade to come along. Earlier reports were indicating that it would be anytime now. I'm nervous that if I take the plunge and buy one, that next week they will launch a new product. Has anyone heard anything new?

It could be anywhere from October to March. Highly dependent on Intel's schedule at this point.
