Those who got the 6S+ and did a restore...

I work at an AT&T store and we got a notice to not restore customers devices from an iCloud backup until the device was updated to 9.0.1. I don't recall it giving a specific reasoning behind what was going on.

For my personal device I restored from an iTunes backup then did the update to 9.0.1. Haven't finished setting everything up yet but so far so good to me.

I set up as new downloaded beta profile and got on 9.1 beta 2, then I restored my 6+ backup. So far no issues definitely feels faster than my 6+.

I restored mine from the 6 Plus backup earlier today.

It lagged a bit in some areas, and things weren't as fast as I expected in others, so I'm in the process of restoring as new. I don't mind.

Backed up my iPhone 6 and restored to iPhone 6S Plus via iTunes. Phone got really hot during the restore but haven't had any performance issues at all.

Anybody do a restore via iTunes and its now hung on loading the apps back on the phone? All are stuck on waiting.

Both I and my sister are having this same issue. Glad to hear I'm not the only one... could it be that Apple's servers are just getting pounded globally?

what i finally realized, you need to make sure the apps on your computer are actually updated. It doesn't matter if you updated the apps on your previous phone if they arent also updated on the mac you plan to back up from.

I couldn't restore from iCloud and had to do a restore backup stored in iTunes. Took a while to get the backup loaded and yes most of the apps just sat there and hung for quite some time and were dark greyed out. Some of them I removed and added back individually, some were showing up as needing to be updated in the app store and others eventually installed. I really wanted to do a clean install, but needed to make sure to get text messages back on the device for a family member.

Give it a full 24 hrs and report back then.

There can be an extended period of background activity after initiating an iCloud restore.

I updated 6s plus to 9.0.1 and updated all the apps before backing up the old phone over iCloud. There's a page when setting up the phone that instructs to update the apps on the old phone and do a fresh iCloud backup.

Happened to me yesterday.

Only cure I found was to delete the "waiting" apps Andre download from App Store.

Same here.

I found turning wifi off fixed the lag straight away, but would go eventually anyway.
A hard restart sets it off again.

May install 9.1 beta to see if it helps.

Did you use iTunes or iCloud? Did you experience any issue?

My iPhone 6+ and iPad Mini 3 has been lagging since 9.0 and not much changed after 9.01. Thus, I want to check if restoring onto the new 6S+ will result in the same lagginess.

Mine has a rotation bug after restoring from update.

I used an encrypted iTunes backup from my 6+ and all went fine. There was a delay while some of the apps were reloaded but after a hour or so my 6S+ is running buttery smooth.

Would not connect to my AirPort Extreme network, but did as guest!

Tried iCloud, was so slow so cancelled and did iTunes.

Most apps were messed and downloaded automatically. So a few minutes on wifi and fine.

Lost my contacts settings, but that was a Google apps thing.

So iTunes was certainly a timesaver.

I had this issue as well. Glad I'm not the only one. It seems like it was because the apps on iTunes were all not updated. I simply re-downloaded the hung apps from the app store and everything is fine now.

Hope I found the appropriate thread. Is it faster and/or more efficient to do a restore from iCloud or a back up stored on your computer (both through iTunes, of course)?
This would be nice to know before I get my 6s Plus Monday.

I would recommend iTunes backup and restore, especially if you have an Apple Watch.

Reason:

1). iCloud backup has been failing for ALL of my devices since I upgraded to 9.01, so I have no backup as of 09/24. I had to resort to iTunes (encrypted backup). I created a separate thread that talks about this.

2). Apple Watch data is backed up onto your iPhone. The iCloud backup issue may corrupt this data and you can lose all the Watch data (health, etc.).

Had this issue when I restored my phone from iTunes. Apps just sat there on my phone not installing. I figured something was up with iTunes and the apps so I unplugged my phone and away they went updating via WIFI. This is a new one for me. Like the person said, the apps need to be on/updated in iTunes before they will go.

When I did my iCloud restore (from my previous phone, iPhone 4), I got the "slide to upgrade" bug when my iPhone 6s+ restarted after the restore, and tried to update iOS 9 to 9.01.

It was stuck on a white screen with an unresponsive slider bar. The fix was easy, connecting to iTunes and holding the buttons as instructed here on Apple's troubleshooting guide:

Restored from unencrypted backup on Itunes. Very fast no problems.

Same here..almost always go this route to preserve passwords, etc. I restored my 6s+ from an encrypted back up of my 6+ running 9.1 beta 2 (after first setting up the 6s+ as new and updating to 9.1 beta 2) and my 6s+ simply flies--no perceived lag or hiccups whatsoever.

Had the same thing in my 6S Plus restore from iTunes. All the apps were updated BEFORE I back up to iTunes. However, I did not have all the apps downloaded in iTunes.

I just left the iPhone be for 15 minutes. I can see all the downloaded apps are waiting to be downloaded onto my iPhone. Afterwards, it's start to install.
