When you click on About This Mac and the info window pops up, what is your device named as?

I have a 2013 MacBook Air that for whatever reason is just named MacBook Air like the new 12-inch Retina ones.

Anyone else has theirs just called MacBook Air? Seems a bit strange...

You'll also notice MacBook Air printed on the bezel of your display.

Mine says "MacBook Air", which is good because it is a MacBook Air. ;)

I'm confused... What else would your MacBook Air be called other than MacBook Air?

I think that OP means that his does not give the year and specific model info. See the screen shot from my system - it says "MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2011)" instead of just "MacBook Air".

Op, the only time that I have ever seen that is on a system with no serial number. Does yours have a serial number on the line at the bottom where it should be? Note that I have removed the serial number from this screenshot, but it does normally show down there.

That makes sense, although it didn't seem to be what the OP was asking. ;)

    Anyway, mine says

    MacBook Air
    11-inch, Mid 2013

Seems to me there were some threads about this a couple years ago, but I don't recall the details. Possibly around the time the 2014 models were released?

Hey, sorry for the confusion, didn't explain it clearly but you guys figured it out.

Basically, I've seen Macs that state the specific type it is, ex. MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2014).

Mine MacBook Air (13 inch from 2013) just says MacBook Air which I find kinda strange.

Yes it does. 99.9% sure its not fake because I bought it from Apple and picked it up at one. Even if it weren't real, it sure works great for a fake one.

Was just curious all this time because I've seen my friends Macs and they all have it. Every time I upgrade, I wonder if it shows up. Don't recall it every showing it though, maybe when it had Lions preinstalled, possibly Mavericks. But I know since Yosemite, I never had it.

I am still running 10.8 on my 2013 MBA, so maybe that's why I don't have the problem?

Pretty sure it's a bug in OS X. I've had multiple computers not list the year but then have it work later or after an update. This applies to Mavericks-El Capitan. And with an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro. Sometimes it'll say Mid 2007 or whatever, and sometimes it's just blank in the case of my iMac. It showed up today though.
