That guy doesn't even have the computer. He's spent half an hour with it in a store. Why would you listen to his opinion over someone the opinion of someone who's actually spent some real time with the computer?

Well, I have spent some serious time with the machine and I agree with his view on non upgradable parts, that does seem to limit what can and does happen to the standard mbp's and will probably put some people off especially those that have tweaked their PC's over the years who are used to dabbling with upgrades, I can understand this.

I haven't experienced any issues with it switching gpu's and I do love the screen under OSX but not in Windows as everything is way to small. Its like anything and any product in life, this rMBP will suit some and not others. I personally am at a crossroads with it and am not sure if its suited to what I want it for, I still have a few days to play with it and will make my mind up on day 13.

im confused by your freezing issue. you claim its because of gpu switching. yet then you said you disabled switching and it still freezes. i would assume it has to be something else causing it then.

ssajous,

In your post #10 you said:

"Just do a random search, there are hundreds of complaints and even 10s of youtube videos."

Maybe because there are hundreds of complaints out of tens of thousands of machines sold, that that could be the cause of not many people seeing the problem?

Yet you are worried that you may again get a machine with the problem.

No disrespect intended at all, but, you don't feel very lucky do you?:D

Not really, luck has nothing to do with it. I work in a department with about 150 people with a small percentage owning macs, 4 of us have had our boards replaced for that issue.

***** happens, hardware fails, software can be buggy, where is the fix? That's my only point.

I don't claim it, that's the conclusion everyone with the issue seems to come to.

Apple support told me that it's the same issue and I have to take it in again for more testing.

I've got the late 11 15 in and it does not freeze when switching. Honestly bring it in and ask for a replacement and that will probably solve your problem.

I hope it's possible, it's a 2010 machine. I am starting to fear that I am going to be told that it sucks to be me at some point. Although it is documented that it's an issue with that year and model.

Dude, you are making a mountain out of a molehill. I owned the infamous 2007 MBP, and it was absolutely perfect, never had an issue. I now have an early 2011, and it too works like a dream. My iPhones and iPads have never suffered from light bleed, yellow screens, antenna gate, etc. Out of cabillions sold, if you find 10,000 online complaints, that's a minuscule fraction (and many of them didn't have a complaint until they read the forums then went looking for issues).

Just buy the machine you want, and if there is a problem, take it back and Apple will take care of it. And you don't have to go retina. The non-retina machines still rock.
