I've tried to work with the MM 5 times now over the years, all after a long break and thinking "try it again".
I even bought and tried the Elevation Lab MagicGrips things (twice!)..

I want so badly to like an actual Apple mouse as the scrolling is totally awesome on there...

I'm done trying.
It's just simply not a comfortable mouse for me.

Somehow I ended up with a MM and MM2. They both cry out for use from my closet, where they sit ignored in their little white boxes. They are just too uncomfortable to hold for any length of time. Using Illustrator all day long they just aren't a good solution.

Yep..
Another Apple peripheral that seems to be optimized around the usage of "Debbie at Dr Brown's front desk iMac station"

I spoke with a lady from the Apple Online store today re: the keyboard and the thermal expansion noises. Even though I am outside of the 14 day return window by about a week, she agreed to issue the refund and gave me a return number. I am promptly going to take it to one of my local retail stores today. Now they question becomes... what next? What are we really to do when the 2016 had keyboard issues, and the 2017 has issues (mine had these problems, not saying everyone does). I can't run VM's on a MacBook or a MacBook Air. And I don't really want to leave the Apple EcoSystem when everything usually just works.

Such a hard spot to be in right now.

I feel your pain, it's tragic what Apple has done to the MBP just to attract the "kool kids" for me, I just cant get past the ports & keyboard as they both result in a worse user experience and more importantly negatively impact my workflow.

Planning on visiting my local Apple Store to see firsthand if there is any change in the 2017" KB. For multiple reasons I want to retain a Mac in my professional lineup, equally paying $3,200 plus tax makes little sense given what Apple is currently presenting, especially with the current and rising concerns regarding the keyboards reliability.

On the brighter side at least Apple did the right thing by agreeing to refund you.

Good one.

Logitech mice for me. M510 or MX Anywhere.

Asus ROG Spatha as it's a fantastic productivity tool once programmed (Windows), great ergonomics with wired & wireless solutions. Nor does the Spatha require it's helper app as all settings are retained in the mouse's own onboard memory.

I had three units (February, March) and returned them. Noisy keyboard, contraction / dilation noises (temperature variations).

Now I have arrived (2017.06.26) the new Macbook Pro and, honestly, this is how it should have been from the beginning.

Perfect keyboard, uniform sound, well adjusted keys.
It does not make contraction / dilation noises (temperature variations).

Ha ... There are no keypad marks remaining on the screen.

This review I think it is worth the wait. Also, as always Apple makes me discount (purchase by phone through seller) and for the price of Macbook Pro I have obtained:

Macbook Pro
USB adapter -> USB-C (1).
Lightning connector cable to USB-C (1).
Thunderbolt Cable (1).
Adapter from Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2.
AirPods (1).

People hate these keyboards simply because it's different from the old one that they are used to. Type on them gently rather than like the pervious and it's fine. Btw I've used the old MacBooks keyboard before they updated them to be more like the mbp and those were actually pretty bad.

Abyway, uniform click, larger, and individual backlight keys are all improvements to this keyboard which make it great imo.

Update on the keyboard feel? Also do try the one on the MacBook 2017, to gauge its travel versus that on MBP 2017. Please be kind to test out all screen sizes, in effect. :p

Thank you so much! Looking forward to your opinion!

I have the 2017 MBP 15 inch and I love the keyboard very much. It is much quieter than the 2016 keyboard. Also, the high pitched noise at the keys are gone. Feels much more like a keyboard now.

So far I like the feel, don't like the loud clacking sound of it compared to my old MB Air. Most of the time it's fine but in a quiet room with other people (like a classroom), I could see it being distracting. It feels really solid to me though, the old chiclet keyboards feel a little mushy to me now. Definitely an adjustment. But I haven't experienced any issues some others have reported like stuck keys or high-pitched sounds.

Right I feel the same way about the 2017. The 2016 ones I had were much louder when pressing the keys.

I've never used a 2016, so I don't have the same point of reference you do. But I had a 2012 rMBP, and the keyboard on that was fine. But I really, really like the keyboard on my 2017, except for the noise it makes. I did have some pointed feedback from someone I live with about that... "is that your damn keyboard making all that racket", or some such. I guess this is mechanical noise, and there's nothing electronic with the keyboard that can be adjusted with a setting. It doesn't bother me at all, but the peanut gallery around here is taking issue with it, and that does.

For the sake of domestic tranquility, is there any way to quiet this keyboard down some? I'm not looking for a cover or anything else I'd have to add to it. And I don't want to get relegated to the basement because of it, either.

Agreed - I like the short travel but the noise is not great. I was using it in bed while the wife was sleeping and it woke her up.

The current generation of MacBook Pro has about the same thickness as MacBook air, so why can't they put MacBook Air keyboard on the current MacBook Pro ?

Wow, that sounds promising.

My late 2016 (I had to swap 3 to get one without that scratch near the speaker grill) has the following keyboard issues:

The keypad marks remaining on the screen (I think it's the space bar) as well as the noise you mentioned related to temperature variations.
And most importantly: when typing ":" I almost always get "::" or ":." or just "." - it's sooo annoying, especially for a 3k machine..

Otherwise I absolutely love the 2016 MBP but I suspected they would iron out some of the early issues.

Great to hear the 2017 model does not suffer from these issues. I'll try to get mine exchanged for a new model.

I have a 2014 MB pro 15", and also one of the first gen 12" MacBooks, and a late 2010 MB air 13". I think the MacBook Air has the best keyboard by far, but my MBPRO is not far behind. The new keys I think is a tragedy for Apple. Why did they do that? And the price around 3 grand is equally tragic. I will hold on to my MacBook Pro for as long as possible, I think it will last me atleast 10 years. After that, I am thinking of moving to Linux or something. I need a stable OS so it has to be Mac OS or Linux. How hard could it be to get some Asian manufacturers to copy the Apple trackpad and make a great Linux machine. Jeeses. Sorry times. And the .. ... "touchbar" ??????
WOT. Miss Steve Jobs, guess that´s why I still have an iPhone Steves edition. Going Samsung soon. Phone is not that important, I can live with second best.

Trackpad clicking on 2014 MBP and previous MacBooks is quite a bit louder than new keyboards. So I suppose you complained about noise on previous models too, right?

Almost any laptop will wake a light sleeper if you use it next to them.

I still can't believe this is an issue for people.

I made an observation. Is that not allowed on this forum now ?

I was simply stating it is loud. Much louder than the 2012 model I had previously. This is obviously something people are noticing as it is quite a hot topic at the moment.

"hot topic at the moment."

It is. But that is not the only topic, because it is less comfortable.
Why did Apple do this?
Seriously. Shooting your own leg?

I've had 2 2017 15'' models, I ended up exchanging my first one out due to an unrelated issue, however I will say that the first one definitely did have the well-documented scratches underneath the speaker grill (on BOTH sides). It irritated me but that wasn't what ultimately forced my exchanged. Just thought I'd let you know since I haven't seen much on the forum about this yet.

I considered several times pulling the trigger on the 2016 model but certain issues, numerous keyboard issues and concerns for battery life, prevented me from buying a 2016 model. It was a tough wait but I'm glad I did. The new keyboard has subtle but important differences compared to the 2016 model. I had quite a bit of experience with my mother's 2016 Macbook Pro, albeit was a 13inch/nTB. The keyboard seemed delicate and would make those odd noises under load. My 2017 is much better in this regard and I have not noticed any issues thus far. The keys feel slightly more stable and the feedback is more consistent over long-periods of usage.

Your opinion is as valid as anyone else's :)

Also the reply you got was not valid as you can lessen the TP sound or even turn of haptic feed back unlike the KB

It's quite funny really after all those posts on other systems fans whirring away and now the nosiest thing on the block is Apple KB LOL

I was on a plane the other week and the girl in front MBP KB could be heard in flight let alone in a quite bedroom

It's like one of those annoying rattles in your car on the passenger side, is it the speaker, door panel or glove box, once you hear it you can't let it go :D

I have the 2016 model and have tried the 2017 model and it feels the same. Not sure about sound but it is for sure the same keyboard and I love it. Tried the 2015 model back in the Apple Store a day ago and it felt terrible to use now and would not be able to go back.
