As a longtime Android user and a new iPad 2 owner, I can tell you I hate the IOS UI.
I don't want all my apps allover my desktop.
I want my widgets.
Don't want ti have to one the calendar app, to see what my appointments are today.
I want a widget that's on my desktop, so I can see, at a glance, what my schedule is, the minute I flip open my smart cover.
I want to see what the weather will be like today in a widget.
I want to see who just emailed me or texted me without having to open th e-mail or message app.

is that there are way more apps on ios, but android market has 3 times the growth. so by august they'll have almost twice the apps, what will we all do once the biggest downside of android is gone?

Where do you get this from? Theres over 60,000 ipad apps and at the time of the ipad 2 there were what? 100 tablet specific android apps? How do you figure 3X growth will be twice as many as 60k by august?

And its not like ipad apps arent growing. And EVEN IF there will be more android apps, none of them will have the polish as iOS apps. Flip board, Garageband, iMovie, plenty of games, and im sure theres plenty more. thats just the few I have from just getting my ipad.

Widgets win at home screen

I understand competitions good, the numbers show that the android market is growing exponentially. the app store is increasing steadily.

Again, what numbers are you talking about? The Android Market took 30 months to get to 200,000 apps. The App Store took 21 months. The estimates that I saw that had Android surpassing iOS in August were based on 295,000 Android apps in May. Google just announced 200,000 apps!

Everybody has the right to like and use crap.
This is merely a personal choice.

In real life, you don't talk to your friend like this: "Why do you use such crap? Mine is much superior! My phone is DUAL CORE, DUAL CORE!!! Yours??? No live wallpaper??? BOOOOOOO. Mine has REAL multitasking, yours is FAKE multitasking!".

It just doesn't sound like an Apple user.

;)

I have an iPod touch 4g, iPad 2 and a motorola atrix and I used to have a iPhone 4.

Personally I hate android 2.2. Even with 1gb of ram and a dualcore tegra 2 my phone is unresponsive and jittery doing everyday things like growing the web or even panning the 7 useless home screens.

Even tho there are several app markets out there and many apps the majority of them are the same. On top top of that they are more expensive and are not guaranteed to work on your phone.

Op the IO yesterday only means phones will be supported for 18 months, similar to how apple doesn't update the iPhone 2g. I find it hard to believe that the manufacturers are going to update in a timely manner, if at all. They are more concerned with sales and want you to buy a new phone instead.

Gingerbread has been out for 5 months and maybe 3 phones have received the update? It's pretty pathetic when you have to rely on XDA to keep your phones upto date.

I can tell you right now, that is isn't Android being slow. It's the dumb user interface that Motorola installed called "Motoblur", it is so poorly optimized and extremely ugly (my opinion). It's so bad that it is capable to bogging down a dual core processor.

"teen"vs"adult"

I'm an adult (actually a 60yr old) and I much prefer to have the ability to customize my interface. I'm still on an old Windows 6.5 phone. I put a new ROM on every 3 months or so, takes about 30 mins. Start to finish (including set up).

I like having all my info on my home screen. I like being able to just look at the lock screen and see the weather, messages, etc. I like having my on pics as the screen-and not just the lock screen and home screen. I like widgets.

However, I do like my iPad. It's smooth and runs well. When I considered which "fun" tablet to buy I considered Androids. They are just not there yet -they ARE getting there. But i'm not too fond of Google. I finally decided on the iPad not for the apps, not for the OS, and not for Apple's walled garden. I like the form factor. Thin, light. A pleasure to hold and use. For me it was a good decision. When I get ready to replace it in a year or so I'll have another look at what's out there and decide.

I never have and never will buy tech (or anything else) based on what's popular. Nor will I ever let what others think of my purchase influence me. I buy what works for me. I love the fact that there is so much competition because it means we, as consumers, get better products and better tech.

I also love that Apple is doing so well because I have a loa of their stock and it will be helping to fund my retirement.

A lot of people say that they don't have a problem with Apple itself, but that their real problem is with Apple users. They say that Apple users have a "holier-than-thou" attitude and look down on PC users.

For me, I have nothing against Android. I've had conversations with people who like Android and they explained to me in a logical manner as to why they prefer Android over the iPhone. They were very civil about it. They basically said that as a consumer, Android fits their needs better. But there are other Android enthusiasts who harbor a "holier-than-thou" attitude and make remarks at the intelligence of Apple users. They call Apple users names like "sheep" and "fanboi."

That's what makes me angry, personally. It's your right as a consumer to choose Android. But don't act like you've chosen the path of freedom and that I'm being a "mindless fanboi" or "cult member." People who do that are becoming the same people they've come to dislike.

WAT?!! Are talking about tablet apps and if so, Where did your numbers come from?

Unfortunately, (I know it's totally non-scientific personal experience and may be very biased) some if not most of the Android users around me like to label iPhone users as 'sheep' / 'fanboi' , which is very sad. I know that people like to show that they are 'better' than the others and that's how capitalism works, but well, why do those people need to hurt the others' feeling to 'show' that they are superior? Is there something related to their lack of self confidence?

Who cares about the numbers? For me it's always been about the UI and the QUALITY of apps, which Apple completely dominates at. Quality > quantity. I never cared much for how many apps Apple has in their app store. Specs, numbers, prices, etc, etc, are important, but what it all boils down to is the user interface and the software that you have to use on the phone. For me, Apple has always won that race with the iPhone, iPad, and even Mac. They manage to blend the software and hardware so that one takes complete advantage of the other. I don't think Google will be able to accomplish that anytime soon, but they are definitely making many improvements and getting ahead of a lot of the other competition. But I'll go with iOS until Android changes it's UI and the apps become better.

- The apps are garbage.
- The interface is janky looking.

To be fair, there are tons of garbage iPad apps. But you sound like a typical fanboy.

There are tons of games from iphone/ipad being converted to Android. Same thing with apps. So, by calling apps garbage, you are calling same iOS apps garbage. Go stand in a corner and think about it.

I can't simply compare android and apple, Unless android change their name to Pear...
So we can compare apple to pear

There's already an Orange company in aust and uk... i didnt want to use that word unless someone shoot me down

While I'm sure this isn't a likely scenario any time soon, it is conceivable that Android devices could overtake the iOS market share to the point that Apple decides iOS devices are no longer financially viable, and kill them off.

MS is doing it to the Zune...sorta sad if you're a Zune fan. Cisco just did it to Flip video camera, which not unlike the iPhone and iPad, was a game changer for its industry.

Let's look at this statement. If a company has a device that is no longer financially viable, should they a) keep producing it and lose tons of money or b) kill it off?

I'm trying to think what any successful company would do here.

I used to be an iPhone user (3GS 32GB) and I will not deny it was a great phone. However I was constantly irritated by Apples closed playground model. I did not like dealing with Cydia with jail breaks and I was constantly irritated that I couldn't use the storage space I had paid so much for. Having no common file system and or USB plug and play access in this day and age is simply stubborn.

Just had my contract upgrade and choose a Dual Core Samsung Galaxy S II. What a phone I have just been blown away by how fantastic it is. You guys talking down Android have no idea what this new generation of android phones is about to do to the market. It's faster, smoother, prettier and more functional than the iOS iPhone system. Apple need to wake up and allow users more access to the hardware they paid for, a central file system is the first step. Have you tried handling attachments from Mail on iOS? It can become ridiculous. The galaxy s II destroys any phone I have seen in terms of performance, smoothness, hardware, and battery life.

I'm rolling with an iPad 2 as my tablet though because i feel that's the best form factor to experience apples closed garden world. Magazines, games, and app support are better on iOS for now. I need my phone to be open and functional as a tool - my tablet can be my closed playground. So they can coexist perfectly fine.

Why do people think app availability matter

I love how people will say oh we have more apps or we are getting more apps faster. I have to say how does it benefit you that they have tons of apps. When you get the 1tb android or iPhone I want to see how those 250,000 apps are on your phone.

Google is gaining on iOS every update and they are fast learning from their mistakes. I would love to stop seeing people b!tch about which one and better and talk about how awesome it would be to get the best of both worlds:

I would kill for this phone:
Smooth UI
Widgets
Filesystem
Mobileme
Notification system
Easy on the battery
Fast UI interface
Bluetooth transfers
Deep Customization options

The only things which puts me off Android is the updates. All phones don't get updates at the same time.

Depending on your phone model you could be stuck on the older version of Android for months or maybe not get it at all.
