When you place an order and receive a confirmation for a launch day delivery, but it ends up getting moved to 10/9 because they don't know how to process Apple Pay correctly, I'd call that getting screwed over.
Still hoping it gets taken care, but looking doubtful.
FYI, Target stores get a shipment of iPhones for launch day. They do not take official pre-orders, but it is up to the Tech Manager to take reservations or not.
I got my iPhone X on launch day this way. My Apple order got pushed back a week. Walked in the Target closest to my work @ 8am, when the Tech dept opens. Still had a few that were not reserved. Cancelled my pre-order in store, freeing up my At&t upgrade, and was able to upgrade on the spot.
This was actually odd. I logged in at about 1 minute after the Apple Store was supposed to open last Friday (on my phone). I am on IUP so had gotten pre-approval and just hit the button and had notification my 11 Pro Midnight Green 64 GB would be here on the 20th. I walked into my DH's office to see how his pre-order was going. He was still looking at the store logo saying Apple was preparing to re-open. He got in at about 3 minutes after the hour. He then ordered an 11 Pro Max Space Grey 64 GB and has delivery for 9/27 to 10/1.
We were in the same house on the same WiFi, in adjoining rooms. But, he got into the Apple Store 2 minutes later than I did for no apparent reason. It isn't that big a deal but he is disappointed not to get the phone this Friday especially since we both online at identical times and the store opened for me, but not for him (at least not until about 2 minutes later).
