It's not just the free speech disaster, which has just turned into unfettered hate speech, conspiracy theory nonsense and the worst takes you've ever seen. It helped caused riots in the UK by the spread of disinformation that wasn't stopped and then idiots advising places and people to attack (Many of whom have no been jailed thankfully). He says it's free speech but whilst you can say the N word with no problem at all "cisgender" gets a notice saying the tweet will be suppressed because it falls foul of "X's hateful speech policy" you could make this stuff up.
It’s not just the free speech disaster, which has devolved into unfettered hate speech, conspiracy theories, and some of the worst takes imaginable. It helped incite riots in the UK by spreading disinformation, followed by idiots advising attacks on specific places and people (many of whom have thankfully been jailed). He claims it’s about free speech, yet while you can say the N-word without issue, using the term “cisgender” prompts a notice stating the tweet will be suppressed under “X’s hateful speech policy.” You couldn’t make it up.
But it's also the state of the site, the paying for blue badges, who are now all the worst people with the worst things to say at the top of the replies to any tweet...you have to scroll past them to find some semblance of normality.
The removal of third-party apps—which in my heyday made the site actually usable—has ruined the experience; without them, I wouldn’t have stayed. The rebranding is awful. The monetisation of antagonistic behaviour to farm engagement for profit has massively degraded the quality of content, reducing it to nonsense, engagement bait, and troll farming. The sidebar is cluttered with rubbish, including that Grok nonsense. The UX is hideous.
I also suspect he’ll fall foul of laws in many countries, especially within the EU. Free speech in the UK and Europe does not include hate speech or incitement to violence; you can’t just let things go unmoderated. In fact, the EU has already begun taking action through Ireland. Social media platforms were already struggling to keep up with regulations and prosecutions when they were moderated!
