Why would you be on a platform while hating it?

Mainly because they're users like me from 2009 who built up a following and have contacts and friends on there and can't be bothered to start somewhere else. Doesn't mean they can't stand what's happened to the site in the last 18 months or so.

Don't like people expressing opinions you disagree with, block and/or mute them. Can't stand this or that political figure, block and/or mute them. What about anyone who remotely expresses the slightest agreement with said political figure? Mute/Block them. You are in control to shape your thread anyway you want.

Yes but it's the fact that you have to see unfettered hate speech, disinformation or mental conspiracy theories on a daily basis in the replies to anything and everything. Especially now he's made it that the blue tick idiots get boosted to the top, you have to scroll past them to get to a semblance of any normal replies, they're ALWAYS the ones with the worst opinions and shouts. You're never more than two clicks away from some infuriating nonsense you have to keep seeing.

You've got adverts in replies, most of which now have community notes on them because they're shilling fake products, the quality of advertisers are just so low now.

You've got them trying to sell premium all over the place, the layout bar on the left is full of stuff you can't use unless you pay and stuff you wouldn't want to use even if you did.

It was just a much better website previously, creating a two tier social media website just doesn't work.

Get an ad blocker. Works wonders...

I've been on Twitter/X since October 2008 and do not see what you describe. I follow all sorts of different people, subjects, etc. I even learn a thing or two from people who disagree with me.

My gut says you do not like interacting with people who disagree with your rigid ideology.

Oh well. If my gut is correct, it's your loss, as you will live in an echo chamber of like-minded people patting each other on the back, saying how correct you are, and looking down on any who disagree with your ideology. Goodness, that's boring!

The core bedrock of a liberal, democratic, pluralistic society is the ability for people to have different opinions...and to express them. Even ones, heaven forbid, that goes against your rigid idealogy. As long as it does not break the specific country's laws, everything is on the table. It's called...discourse. If you don't like it, use the tools provided by the platform or find a platform that does not allow the free expression of ideas and hang out there.

Educated discourse would be great, but you don’t get that on Twitter. You barely get it on social media at all. It’s a race to the bottom—more and more extreme, and it’s quickly destroying the fabric of society. Unchecked disinformation was responsible for the recent riots in the UK.

It’s fine to have differing opinions, ideas, and thoughts on philosophy, life, hobbies, interests, games, etc., but when conspiracy theories and far-right nutters—whose nonsense is very easily and provably wrong—are pushed to the top of any organic newsfeed or replies, it’s just tiring and draining.

My ad blockers don’t seem to work on Twitter either.
