Has anyone ever met or heard someone publicly admit they use Threads? Hell, anyone who knows what it even is. I'm sure this is just forced logins from IG/FB.
Since you're asking for anecdotal evidence (as opposed to actual data, which this thread is based on), yes.

Of the major social media platforms, X is the one people may have a problem with "publicly admitting" they're on, for some obvious reasons.

We all need to stay away from these US platforms. Especially if you’re European or not US American.

US services are a security threat these days and there are good alternatives available like Matodon for X/Threads/BlueSky, Pixelfed for Instagram and etc.

You're basically choosing the lesser of 2 evils to hand your data over to. 🤷‍♂️

Zuckerberg has had whatever data I choose to put on a social network (which like everyone I know, is really not a significant amount of my life) since 2008 and guess what - nothing negative has happened. In fact i'd say Instagram ads are vaguely useful sometimes. I never see ads on Facebook, Threads or Meta Quest so.

Threads?

Why not BlueSky? Or Mastodon? Who thinks to themselves, "I want a microblogging site, but from Facebook!"

Threads is almost as bad as X.

Besides all the usual suspects you see on X, Threads is filled with Meta shills constantly trying to promote their products or outright lying about things they do (like their rampant data collection of users to sell ads).

I'm surprised to be honest.
Just judging by how many begs I see on Instagram, breathlessly trying to get me to click through to Threads.
'Hey Calaveras! Your friends Foo and Widget are already on Threads! Why not check it out!'
OTOH everyone I know has bailed on Twitter since it was taken over by some South African raver.
