I have no idea if this is true or not, but just anecdotally I don't know a single person that uses Threads while X still seems pretty ubiquitous, especially for news feeds and sports. Understand the disdain for Musk, but I'm not sure running away from him to the open arms of Zuckerberg and Meta is somehow better.
I feel like I need LESS Meta - not more!

Threads is potentially a really nice microblogging system, but they really need to have better moderation and they need to up the limit of characters per post to 1,000 characters.

I was a regular user of Twitter, but Musk, bad advertising, softporn and Grok in my feed just got old and exhausting. I will peruse Threads from time to time based on an interesting notification, but otherwise Twitter just seems old news to me these days.
The only thing Twitter/X has going for it these days is momentum - lots of "important" people / companies (important in this case simply meaning that many others would want to listen to them) are there.

What I'd really like to see (which isn't going to happen for at least *checks watch* another 3 years), would be for government agencies at all levels (congress, the weather service, FEMA, governors, etc., to set up Mastodon instances parallel to their existing websites, and start distributing their alerts and such there, where important information is available to people in an open and standards-compliant way. And then, at some point in the future, stop publishing that information on Twitter (which was once kinda like a town square, but is now owned/controlled by a guy who likes to push his opinions/conspiracy theories on everyone else, along with there being rampant bot problems - basically it's not a private site that the US government should be supporting by using it as a primary channel for communicating real-time alerts and such).

The reason why X is so far ahead on web is because those are all the bots that flood that platform. Musk wanted X to brainwash the world into following the regime, but in the end, the world was just simply not that stupid. We went somewhere else to continue having important conversations, albeit the other places we've gone are also full of bots, just less so. I fully believe that Truth Social and X are primarily bots at the moment, where Threads is still largely real people. Tons of bots there yes, but more real people than bots by a long shot still.

Unfortunately, I'm seeing a lot of bot accounts on Threads, too. In fact, bot accounts are a major problem on just about every social media platform.

Reddit is better depending on where you are looking, because it's topic-based rather than personality-based - you don't follow a person (and see their views on everything, plus what they ate this morning plus their dog pics), you join various topic-based subreddits. And there are a ton of subreddits where bots don't make sense (like for a random game or people interested in collecting particular category of items or such). You can find some bots in politics-oriented subreddits, but people tend to heavily downvote things that look bot-like (which, in turn, hides them from the rest of the conversation).

Let’s just keep calling it twitter. X is not a great name, no matter how bad Musk wants a company to be named X.
That's exactly why it should be called X, it's a stupid name. We should make him live with this stupidity he created. 🙂
