Definitely on the gone-too-far and impacting readability side of things: Apple's designs (both software and hardware) have often (not always) negatively impacted usability for the past 15 years, so why does it surprise us that this continues to happen? Sure, they occasionally get something right again, but mostly they just get things wrong time and time again; or do something wrong and then stick with it rather than correcting the issue. Even during the second Jobs era this was sometimes a problem; with products like the hockey puck mouse being far less intuitive to use than a mouse should be. Apple isn't perfect, never has been perfect, and it's pure fanboyism to pretend otherwise. I hope Apple someday returns to the level of a simple, clear, usable, consistent, highly-visible UI layered over top of immense stability and power that OSX brought us, but I do not anticipate that this will happen anytime soon. They are flailing, like Microsoft use to flail, which is a real shame. I think it is pretty clear Apple knows this with the inclusion of multiple designs the end user to can choose from (at least for now). That's a good compromise, but even the best of them still lacks the visibility and clarity of older UI designs.
(Full disclosure, I have used Tahoe beta and tried the theme there, but I also use to run the Glassklart(??) theme back in the day on jailbroken phones. I think the glass design is lovely; but I also wouldn't ever suggest it as a well done, usable, UI design. It's freaking *terrible* from a usability standpoint. Lovely (in my opinion)? Yes! A good UI design? Heck no!)
