British carrier Three has seeded a carrier settings update--version 27.1--that enables native Wi-Fi calling on iPhones.

Three previously required iPhone customers to use its free Three inTouch app for Wi-Fi calling, but the carrier settings update released on Friday introduces system-level support for Wi-Fi calls and texts under Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling.
We know that sometimes you can't get signal when you're indoors, but that shouldn't mean that you have to go off the grid. With Three inTouch Wi-Fi Calling, you can call and text whenever you're on Wi-Fi in the UK, even if there's no mobile signal.
Three joins EE and Vodafone among carriers in the U.K. with native support for Wi-Fi calling on iPhones.

Have enabled this and see it comes up with "Three Wi-Fi Call" in the top left - out of curiosity does this only work on known Wifi networks or unknown as well?

One of the reasons I left Three for EE is because they had Wi-Fi calling built in, whereas Three used a crappy app that meant conversations were often disjointed between the app and the messages.app

This is a good step. I still won't switch back to Three though - EE has 4G in far more places, and faster speed too.

I switched to EE too though Via Vodafone. I think EE's support of Visual Voicemail is what swung it, only had 2 voicemails since September however.

Very nice. Thanks for the heads up, I've just enabled it.

I guess the next step is to see if they finally implement Visual Voicemail.

Edit: I know they have to save space in the status bar but now it's the only place where Wi-Fi is spelt without the hyphen.

I've been hoping for Visual Voicemail for years, but Three have repeatedly said it's not coming because of implementation costs. It's a real shame as I use voicemail at least a couple of times a day and the Visual Voicemail interface seems much less cumbersome than navigating the dialed voicemail. I believe there are a couple of third party options but I haven't bothered to look in to them.

I hope they will get it at some point after all iPhones must make them a hell of a lot of money.

You should try Hullomail - I used it for years with Three before moving to EE and native VV. I'm actually considering moving back to Hullomail and ditching native VV as Hullomail can 'mark messages as unread' which I used to use all the time.

I'm probably a bit of a perfectionist and like to get all the features. Seems annoying we don't get transcripts for visual voicemail in the U.K. (Only Canada and US) but in reality I get so few voicemails it doesn't actually matter.
