Is there are charge to make a wifi call or text message, especially when abroad. EE's website states this...

Why you're being charged when calls are being made over WiFi

Although the call or text starts on a broadband connection, it is simply using it to get onto the EE network. The EE network still carries the call and makes it possible.

Wow. This is a massive update. Wonder why three have been so quiet about it
Because you've been able to do it for years with their app, Three InTouch.

Don't get me wrong, it's great they've finally added support for native wifi calling, which is a better user experience. I was hitting the About page every few minutes on Friday to receive the carrier settings update ASAP.

But on a basic level you've been able to make and receive calls and texts on wifi for years on Three. iPhone 5 and below will have to continue using that app, as no native support, and most android phones too.

I'm probably a bit of a perfectionist and like to get all the features. Seems annoying we don't get transcripts for visual voicemail in the U.K. (Only Canada and US) but in reality I get so few voicemails it doesn't actually matter.
I was disappointed about that too, but I only have a 6, when I checked it was only available on 6S and up I think?

You can get Voicemail Transcripts on any carrier which supports Visual Voicemail by changing SIRI language to US, with 6s or 7, (and 5SE I think). You don't have to be in the US. There is a long thread about in the EE forum confirming this.

I am on EE with iPhone 7+ but use HulloMail mentioned earlier. HulloMail provides Visual Voicemail and Voicemail Transcript. Like the earlier poster I started Hullomail when I was on Three, but stayed with it when I switched to EE.

I updated three software by going into settings>about .. it's now 27.1 and also enabled wifi calling in the phone settings but I am not seeing three wifi calling in top left like some people here .. also on three's website it still says ios embedded wifi calling will arrive soon ..

I'm surprised o2 haven't got this yet, considering they were THE iPhone network originally.

Are Wifi minutes included in your allowance or are they unlimited/reduced? (I have an unlimited call contract so it wouldn't affect me - I'm just curious)

One of the reasons I left Three for EE is because they had Wi-Fi calling built in, whereas Three used a crappy app that meant conversations were often disjointed between the app and the messages.app

This is a good step. I still won't switch back to Three though - EE has 4G in far more places, and faster speed too.
[doublepost=1485736951][/doublepost]I moved the other way. EE's coverage was unreliable, especially indoors and their data charges extortionate with unfair time restrictions. EE was my worst experience with a mobile operator.

Welcome addition but putting 'Three Wifi Call' in the status bar instead of '3 Wifi Call' is a really poor decision. Love the simplicity of '3' in normal mode.

Only nearby.
I've seen the word Three appear instead of 3 quite regularly. I think they may be rebranding to the word rather than the number.

They come out of your minutes / allowances just the same. I have a home hub from them and if I use data whilst it's connected they still would take the full usage out my allowance, I think that is a bit cheeky.

Ive not found a way to enable it on 10.3 yet either, if anyone finds a way to do it let us know!
Going to guess we are going to get it on the next beta update. My carrier version is "Three 27.5.1".

Yup. Because at that point you're just borrowing their servers, and similar services charge nothing... or next to nothing to run (VoIP). I wonder how well it'll go down here in Europe and the UK.

I get no signal at work, so being able to send and receive both calls and SMS messages over Wi-Fi natively has been invaluable. Absolutely great service.

I've been with O2 since the 3GS because their network is the best where I live. I really wish they would hurry up and enable WiFi Calling. Then hopefully VoLTE instead of wasting money on crap advertisement.

From what I've read on Three UK's Support (@threeuksupport on Twitter) they are pushing out Carrier Updates to qualifying iOS devices in batches.

However it's great to see they've followed EE and enabled calls/SMS over WiFi and fingers crossed it's not too long before o2 enable WiFi Calling/VoLTE.

Which carrier version does yours show? I'm on the latest non beta (10.2.1) and have 'Three 27.1' which seems to be the carrier settings update with this in.

For all those wondering, Three have given me their answer:

I think they've just confused the normal 7 day roll out on non-beta devices with the beta issue. First line support is not really that technically minded...

For them to roll out to 10.3 probably requires Apple bundling a '27.5.2' containing wifi calling in a future beta- fingers crossed for you it's the next one.

Wish O2 would support this but they want to push their crap TU GO app. Utter pish.

Agreed, the tugo app is still very average - it still has a MASSIVE advantage over wifi calling

1) you can use it abroad
2) You can use it abroad (and in the UK) when you have another network sim in your phone.
eg. I put a spanish PAYG sim in my iphone when in Spain - and I can still easily receive and make calls - using my UK o2 number! - which comes out of my unlimited allowance

I got the carrier update by going into settings - general - about it then told me one was available and would I like to install it. Once I did that wifi calling was available under settings - phone.

Maybe this will work for others?
Are you on the 10.3 beta?

If not, the problem is the iOS 10.3 beta 1 went out earlier last week with a carrier version higher than the newly released one with wifi calling, but doesn't contain wifi calling. People on the beta probably won't see the update because it's a lower version

If you are, I'd love to know the carrier version you're on now?

Didn't Three buy o2? Adding to the VV discussion earlier, this was my hope Three would finally introduce VV. o2 had it first when the iPhone came out.

No. They wanted to merge but the merger was blocked by the European Commission.
