There are a couple of apps I use that don't have Mac apps and whose websites are particularly clunky and always require a 2 factor code (my previous company's timesheet service is a prime example). It was way faster for me to use mirroring to enter my time than log in, complete the captcha, wait for a two factor code to come in, then have to log in again.

But my phone also lives in my pocket while I'm at my desk, so that may influence things. If your phone is already sitting on a dock or something I can see why it’d be less useful.

So, if I understood correctly, that feature exists so that, for example in your case, you wouldn’t need to take your phone out of your pocket? 😮

“Please unlock your iPhone”

Or

"Connection Interrupted
Ensure "iPhone" is near your Mac, turned on, recently unlocked, and with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled."

It is right next my Mac on the charger. I have used it 10 minutes ago. I keep falling for it, as when it works it is great. But it is a piece of ***** software. At least let me unlock it from the Mac. At the moment it is pointless and really annoying.

Considering a lot of posts here are about it working horribly, I’d say we’re not missing much in the EU.

Reminds me of the first version of Xcode that allowed us to deploy an app to a device without wired connection.

How we laughed. And cried.

why not in EU?
Because the EU has not indicated if the service is acceptable in the region or not. Apple started selling the iPhone in the EU and 2007 with AppStore rules not much different from the way they are today, and the EU decided that how they’d been doing business since 2007 as illegal. That led to fines and additional regulation.

As a result, Apple’s not introducing new features in the region without assurance that they won’t be penalized for bringing a feature to their EU customers.

If you're going from your phone to a Mac screen, try [command/option/+] on the Mac keyboard. Those are my brackets. Sometimes I need to do it twice, but it works. Put it back to normal when you're done. [command/option/+]
As. always, YMMV

it's pretty clear to me why they haven't, and it goes with Unregistered 4U's explanation: if Apple had to make iPhone Mirroring work with Android devices (as per EU rules), it would be hard to keep that virus magnate Android phone from passing malicious code to your Mac.

That the whole problem with EU regulations, besides the fact that Apple shouldn't have to develop and give away features to their competitors in the first place.
But… the EU DMA does not state Apple should open up iPhone mirroring to Androids. That’s even highly debatable because macOS is not a Gatekeeper and iPhone mirroring is a macOS feature.

And second, keeping out viruses is not impossible. Isolating untrusted devices is a known technique.

The issue is allowing an iPhone to be remotely unlocked and controlled from a third-party device. Those are iOS APIs that would have to be exposed to any and every third party hardware manufacturer and OS developer who asked: meta, Google, Samsung, Microsoft etc. No way Apple
Signs off on that.

That’s the first explanation I’ve heard that makes sense.

In EU we still dont know how the first feature works 😂 even I totally forgot for this feature ever exist. Honestly I dont know the real and useful purpose of this feature as I always have a phone nearby.

Yep .. I've given up even bothering with it.

It was occasionally handy for me when it worked, but it's flaky enough that it falls into the "forget about it" territory for me.
