So they got the guy who was responsible for one of Apple's worst products?

Uh...good job there!

Serioiusly, I do use MobileMe and like it. I think it's worth the money and suggest it to people. But you have to admit that the 2006-2009 time period was not the brightest time in MobileMe/.Mac history.

Couldn't agree more. I pay for it, use it a LOT, yet I find it to be horribly flawed. It is easily Apple's least user-friendly product.

Now that I think about it with the $99 + tax each year I’ve dropped on my Mobile Me/.Mac subscription since 2002, I could have purchased a new iMac, MacBook or Mac mini at this point.

I’ve really have to convince the family to stop emailing me at @mac.com. :D

Sweet more free money by tricking people to sign up for monthly music services with tricky and misleading sign ups!

Woohoo!

I'm not sure it's the best of its kind.

However, it is pretty good at keeping my contacts & calendars synced on my family's 4 macs and 2 iphones. And for keeping bookmarks synced on the 4 macs and one office PC. For that alone it's worth the money.

As for iDisk, I put up with the many multiple file version problems and super slow syncing... until the day all my files disappeared then synced empty directories to all my macs, with no ability at Apple's end to restore. Good thing I had my own backup!

Then I discovered Dropbox, which:
- is FREE (up to 2Gb storage, which is more than enough for most people's necessary syncing requirements)
- syncs files PERFECTLY and near instantaneously
- gives me growl notifications if I want them
- only uploads/downloads the parts of the file that have changed (saving internet usage and increasing speed)
- keeps multiple file version history
- shows most recent files changes
- shows whether or not a file is in sync (with a tick on the file icon in Finder)
- even runs on PCs (sync Mac to PC if you like)
- runs on my iphone
- has a great web interface if you need to use it online

So it's Dropbox for files, MobileMe for all other syncing.

Fruux will do the calendars, contacts and bookmarks for free.
Now you have no need for mobileme :)

MobileMe.EXEC

"This does not compute as a regular Mac.app please re execute on a Windoze Pc and after sync verify multiple representations of the same file" :(

have you ANY idea how popular Pandora is??

Pandora won't allow access for those outside of the usa, so its irrelevant how popular it is if only one country in the world can access it!

Pandora obviously isn't suitable for all. Choice is good.

Yeah!!

Wow, what surprised me most about this article is that the VP for Mobile Mess has been there all this time. I had assumed that in the last few years they would have fired the VP and some others who were responsible. Maybe Apple has been too busy with other things..

Anyway, I think and hope this is good news. I could rant about all the problems that MobileMess still has, but I'll spare you. I hope they get some folks in there who can do Apple's magic on this clunky buggy service.

Actually MobileMe is the best service of its kind.

It might be more attractive if it were free, though. but quite frankly, I'm more inclined to trust a paid service when it comes to these things.

You just keep taking the drugs fella.

You judge services by the sum of their parts, and a lot of people (me included) will tell you that most of the MobileMe parts are poorly implemented and unreliable.

If you want to hear the opposite, just post a general news about Mobile Me

But guys! You, bashing Mobile Me... Some of you keep going on and on about this "User Experience" thing and how Macs just work... Yet, now you are telling us that Apple is not perfect? And it hasn't been for years?!

I suppose, if you want some serious Apple product-bashing, give it to this bunch and tell them that the guy responsible just left Apple for another company.

Personally, I think it's better to be somebody in a smaller company and have all the opportunities than working for a large corporation with such an intimidating company culture as Apple. It must be a bit like an old Harry Potter in Darth Vader's job building Death Star.

LOL, could not agree more. I'd say poached was out of place. Let go is more likely. Apple does not loose people to poaching they want on their team. :apple:

"Loose" is not the word that Apple's HR department would probably use. But I think it's funny that you informed us about Apple's take on the matter. Yet this keeps happening. The phenomenon is called "The Job Market". I hope that some of the moaners here will get an exposure to it soon.

Dropbox is better, in my opinion and without a doubt, it has more features. I've got Dropbox on my iPhone to start with and it is reliable, to finish the argument. Besides, you can pay if you want to, but there are several free services that offer pretty much the same as the premium equivalents, perhaps with lower data allowance.

Turncoat

This dude is a turncoat! Apple Inc. ought to get better with their "non compete" clauses...........

I don't know whats its like in the states, but in a lot of countries, it is very difficult for a company to enforce a 'non compete' clause. The employee who is switching companies has to be very significant for the courts to enforce the 'non compete' condition.

"overseeing development of MobileMe since 2006."

Fail.

I won't even look at that site now. I was going to check it out, but not after learning this. People should be warned. A lot of folks are not going to know the fiasco that this man was responsible for. It's like he took something with massive potential and twisted it into a failure of epic proportions. I am sure he will bring his "expertise" to this soon-to-be-failure.

Apple should buy DropBox.

I would use DB exclusively if it weren't for my email address and my bookmarks, etc.
