Does anyone know where the Eject menu item is to add to the Menu bar?

From the top of my head (on a Windows PC at work, I'll confirm this when I get home in about an hour) all the menu extras are in /System/Library/Menu Extras/ or /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/

I had to reinstall Stuffit Standard 8.0.2 after the upgrade, then all was fine. Be sure to check that you don't have multiple copies in your Utilities folder.

Do you mean from the panther disk or stuffit.com? In my app folder I found both v.9.0 and 8.0.2, so...

Weird, just try and succeeded in opening .sit package but had to do it with 6.0

9.0.2 of stuffit expander is out. works perfectly fine on my install of Tiger

For those who care it's thte second of the two.

Smart Mailboxes?

Is it me or are Smart Mailboxes fairly buggy? It won't dynamically update if one chooses "Entire Message" as a condition, and in some cases it seems to have a mind of it's own when it comes to ALL conditions or ANY conditions. It seems to completely break if you try and ask for a criterion in the whole message and something else in the subject or whatnot.

Epson Printer and Tiger

Loaded Tiger on my PowerMac G4 and everything worked except my Epson 740 printer. After three calls to Support and jumping through hoops of all shapes and sizes, I finally got back to 10.2 but lost use of a lot of apps and some data is scrambled.

Why such a drastic move to 10.2?

I wonder why Apple hasn't added 10.4 to the System Configuration drop-down menu at the Mac OS X feedback page. You can only select 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, or 10.3.

Are they suggesting that Tiger has no bugs, or no features worth commenting about, or did they just forget to update that page?

Monitor preferences and fast user switching.

It's a bug on my system, at least:

Whenever my wife logs in to her account, my display preferences go wacky and are all washed out. When I try and recalibrate, it says "The factory profile for this display cannot be found." I'm forced to reboot to get them back. Very annoying!!!

Anyone else notice that 'Fast' User Switching isn't so fast anymore?

well what about the dock? when you put the mouse pointer over the dock sometimes the graphics get all wacky and it doesn't display the icon correctly...

not sure if this was mentioned, such a long list... but when using text edit and you press on a key for the moment where it repeats really fast, it makes this noise.. like a small cricket.. the noise goes with how fast the keys are being repeated... it's weird and it doesn't do that on here or word.

I'm not getting that one. :( Sounds like fun though (no pun intended).

In Panther, after opening iCal the current date pops into the icon and remains until you restart the computer. It always defaults back to July 17 after restarting.

that one always puzzled me - if it has the ability to change to the current date, then wouldn't it make sense for the current date to be the default?

But then what's the point of the calendar widget?..

Nah, I actually agree. It seems really weird that Tiger does this.

Anyone else, using RSS, having troubles on the OS X Downloads RSS feed page. With every link I click I get send to (the same) Apple - Page Not Found... :(

I was wondering about that, too, when I used feedback to report the above mentioned link trouble... :)

I'm experiencing the exact same issue on that RSS page, Mitthrawnuruodo (gosh is your username ever hard for me to type correctly).

Damn it all. We have answered this at least 100 times (I'm not kidding). The icon you see in the dock is the applications icon as defined in <app name>.app/Contents/Info.plist It is a static icns file held within the applications bundle. A running app has the ability to change it's own dock icon but no others. Once an application has quit it cannot update it's icon. There was a bug in Panther that meant if an application had changed it's icon then quit the icon was not revered to the normal one. This is fixed in Tiger.

The only way to keep any dock icon updating is to keep that program running. Mail does not show you the number of new unread mails you have if it's not running does it? No. So iCal cannot update it's icon if you quit it.

Good to hear I'm not the only one... :) (and that's what copy and paste is for :D)

I'm with robbieduncan on this, we've been over it more than once... ;)

If it bothers you, just add iCal to your Login items in System preferences -> Accounts and check the hide button (note that there has been reports that hide doesn't work properly in Tiger, but a fix should be on its way...)

searching for just the word "roxy" alone doesnt work. i think eventually an update might fix the issue. you know the funny thing is, even if i open a finder window and view the desktop...then do a search for the word "roxy"...it still doesnt see the file.

anyway. enough...i can wait. although according to the laziness of some around here its apparently something apple doesnt need to fix. i wonder if steve jobs feels that way about his product. i doubt it...sounds more like a bill gates approach.

I'm sure you've researched the problem thoroughly, but have you tried typing
mdimport /Users
in a terminal window?
It reindexes files, though apparently, only the names and not the physical contents unless you actually open a file.

Safari seems to switch input mode occasionally when switching between tabs and windows. I have Dvorak and Us keyboard layouts in my input menu.

Dashboard wierdness...

Hi all,

Haven't had too many issues with Tiger. Pretty good I'd say for a point zero release...regardless, I had to restart the compuer to install some Canon printer drivers and now when I use Dashboard, the text in some areas is out of alignment. Particularly the calender...anyone got any ideas on this?

Er...actually I just checked a couple of other apps and the same thing has occurred..the leading is all out of whack...mmm.

There seems to be some variant of a memory leak with Tiger... i.e. something's slowly eating up HD space...

Just after a fresh install I had ~7.5 GB free, yesterday evening just over 7, earlier this morning it was down to 6.5 and now Finder tells me I just have about 6 GBs left...

I've NOT downloaded anything apart from a couple of widgets and a few (very small) tools like GNU wget...

I think it's time for a restart and see if I get my HD space back...
