Nope, the retail discs include all code required for ANY supported machine, and usually some that aren't.
One Leopard is released, lots of folks who bought the retail version of Tiger will then buy Leopard and sell their old Tiger version on eBay.
Just to clarify: retail versions of Tiger will not work on Intel machines. I imagine retail versions of Leopard will run fine on both PowerPC and Intel machines though.
