WINDERMERE, Fla. -- WESH 2 News has learned that golfer Tiger Woods was injured when he hit a fire hydrant and then a tree outside his Isleworth home early on Friday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods was injured in the crash, which took place at about 2:30 a.m., and was taken to Health Central Hospital. It's like having another Macbytes around to post italicised extracts from articles.

Hope Tiger is OK. The circumstances sound a bit fishy though.....

Before jumping to the worst conclusions (drugs, alchohol, texting, lap dance while driving). He could have simply fell asleep, swerved to miss someone or an animal, or some other sudden distraction.

Hopefully he has a full recovery.

Looks like it is a serious injury if he messed up his purty face, and will have to miss some of his sponsorship responsibilities while his cuts heal.

Tiger Woods in Serious Condition After Car Wreck

FoxNews.com said:
Golf great Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car crash in Florida early Friday morning, authorities said.

Woods, 33, is in the hospital in very serious condition after a single-car crash at 2:25 a.m. in which he hit a fire hydrant and then a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The wreck is under investigation and charges are pending, but it was not alcohol-related, the highway patrol said in its accident report. It wasn't known if he was wearing a seatbelt.

Wow, I hope he is ok.

The only conclusion that can be drawn from this accident (he was sent home already, apparently) is how poor are cadillac suvs, if hitting a tree in your driveway at <30mph lands you in a hospital.

My guess is he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. It will be interesting to hear what really happened.

Where is the assumption that he was in his driveway come from? He was outside his home. I can be 1000 miles away and be outside my home. While he hit a neighbor's tree suggests to me that he either came cruising home real fast or went to drive away real fast. Either way, hard to lose control of an SUV just pulling in or out of your drive at normal speeds.

If he was sent home already the injuries weren't that serious. I would only assume he wasn't wearing a seat belt, not sure what charges they would file though. Destruction of a fire hydrant?

Gary Bruhn , the mayor of Windemere, Fla., where Woods lives, told CNN on Friday afternoon that Woods had been released from Health Central Hospital, where he was taken after the accident.

Woods agent, Mark Steinberg, told USA Today that Woods is fine. Golf World magazine executive editor Ron Sirak said on ESPNEWS that Woods has "facial lacerations." Bruhn also said on CNN that Woods has facial lacerations.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 2:25 a.m. ET. Woods was driving a 2009 Cadillac sport utility vehicle.

The police report narrative said the "driver had just pulled out of the driveway at his residence ... as [vehicle] began to drive on Deacon Circle, [vehicle] struck a fire hydrant. The front of [vehicle] then struck a tree..."

The airbags in the car did not deploy, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel. The newspaper said that airbags typically do not deploy if a vehicle is traveling less than 33 miles per hour.

The highway patrol says the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending. However, the highway patrol said the crash was not alcohol-related.

Woods is scheduled to play in the Chevron World Challenge beginning Dec. 3 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He last played two weeks ago in Australia, where he won the Australian Masters.

If he was sent home already the injuries weren't that serious. I would only assume he wasn't wearing a seat belt, not sure what charges they would file though. Disctuction of a fire hydrant?

The standard catch all would likely be "Failure to Maintain Control" and a fee for damages to and the repair of the fire hydrant.

TMZ is reporting that the facial lacerations were from his wife. They allegedly got in an argument over infidelity and Tiger beat a hasty retreat in the SUV and crashed.

I really hope it's all BS. I like Tiger Woods and like to think the best of him. He is a role model for many so I hope this incident is just a simple accident.
